A review of my Sunday

It's funny how one day can both be a favourite and the least favourite, mostly based on where I'm currently staying. When I was still in the university, Sundays were my favourite day because I didn't have to go to school and I could just be indoors all through the day. But now that I have graduated and currently staying with my parents, Sundays can sometimes be a nightmare because of how chaotic they sometimes are, although yesterday was a bit better.

As usual, my Sunday began with my little sister waking me up early in the morning to go get ready for church, and when I say early in the morning, I mean 5:50 AM 😐. Anyway, my family goes to a Catholic church and that's how it has been right from my childhood. I prefer going for the first mass which starts at 6:30 AM because it mostly ends around 9 AM and I get to go home while other people are preparing for church. It's the waking up by 5 AM part I don't like, but it's either that or I go for the second mass (my mom doesn't give any other option 😅).

Anyway, I got back from church around 9 AM and just hopped into TikTok while the rest of the family was having breakfast. I wasn't hungry at that point because I already had some snacks at church, my friend and I have this little tradition where we step out from church for a while and go buy snacks and soft drinks. An hour later, I had breakfast; fried plantain and custard, after that I started watching a Nigerian movie called "Aproko.com" (yeah, that's the name) which was a rare thing for me to do but this particular movie was interesting.

Even while watching the movie, I was still yelling out "Sir" and "Ma", depending on if my dad or mom called my name to come run some errands for them, just another regular Sunday. After watching the movie, I put on my laptop and continued working on a coding project I started over 2 weeks ago. I started a new course in January and the final project that was given was to create a calculator app, which I thought would be easy but it was more difficult than I thought. I have been struggling with it for 2 weeks, trying to get things to work just like the basic calculator we all have on our phones.

There was a particular problem that had been giving me a tough time for some days and I even thought of giving up at one point but while still trying to solve it yesterday, I finally figured it out. I successfully solved that particular problem but a new one popped up 😂 that's just normal in the world of coding; you solve one problem and it leads to a new one. Anyway, I wasn't able to solve that new problem until I just gave up on it around 1 AM and decided to try solving it today (I still haven't till now).

After coding for some hours, I took a break around 2 PM and had lunch. For most Nigerians, lunch on a Sunday usually means one thing; rice, and it can be any version of it (with stew, jollof, fried, coconut, and so on). Mine was rice and stew, which is what we mostly eat on Sundays except on some rare occasions where we eat fried rice. Anyway, after having lunch, I played video games for a while, later on, I read and commented on some Hive author's posts and then resumed coding until 6 PM.

I thought about not publishing a post that yesterday but I fought against that laziness and still pushed myself to write. I made a goal this year that I'm going to publish posts every day. I already missed one day I'm February due to unavoidable circumstances and I'm not planning to do so again. After writing and publishing my post, I watched TikTok and YouTube videos for a while and resumed working on my calculator app. As I said earlier, I rounded up for the day around 1 AM and went to bed.

You can see how boring my day was and that's usually the routine on all other days except the going to church part. I prefer working on any project during the weekdays because I can fully focus on it without distractions, considering I'm usually the only person at home during the day. Anyway, that's pretty much how my Sunday went and the one thing I achieved was that I was able to make my calculator app work the way I wanted. Even though I'm not done with it, at least I made good progress by solving a problem that have been difficult to solve for several days.
