My Unsettled Scores with Music: The Journey
☆ A TRUE LIFE STORY
The musician @ksam you see today was first a Shoe maker....
Sorry, unrelated!
Let me start afresh.
☆ A TRUE LIFE STORYoriginal one
Whenever I remember my early beginning as a musician, I remember the countless numbers of "sheges that I saw" (I went through a lot).
I was born into a "musical family"; my mom, my two elder sisters and my immediate elder brother were blessed with "extra-wonderful" voices the blessing finished before it reached my turn.
Their voices were so so good such that...
...well, I don't want to speak much before it'll sound as though I am exaggerating. But, as a matter of fact, my elder sister (first born), led my parish choir to victory in 5 different musical competitions deanary-wise, as the Choir Director (she has handled this position for years and no-one comes close).
Okay, forget about them and focus on me. Isn't that why you came here to read this post?
☆ EARLY BEGINNING
I didn't have the privilege of joining the choir at an early age because each time I got closer to the "minimum required age" the choir director increased the age limit.
For instance, when I was 9 years old, I looked forward to celebrating my 10th birthday with great joy because 10 years was the official age to join choir according to the then choir master's rule. Two months before my 10th birthday, the bar was raised to 12 years.
Again, the age restriction was raised to 14, and at one point they stated only adults (18yrs and above). But after I was admitted to the university in 2013, the pointless law was removed.
Okay, I see now! The law was created just for me. Nice One!!!
☆ THE FIRST STEP
It's a lie, there was no first step.
☆ THE CALL!
Just like Samuel in the Bible, everybody receives their special call. But the difference can be seen in the manner you got the call, the message of the call, the caller, the caller tune, the missed calls and for how long the call lasted.
For me, I am not so sure. But I think I fell in love with the sweet and sexy sound of the Saxophone and that led me into the world of musical instruments.
That was my call!
But, since I couldn't afford a Saxophone, I had to learn instruments that were within my reach.
☆ A ROUGH JOURNEY
It was indeed a rough journey for me!
I didn’t have anyone to put me through learning musical instruments, and so it took me extra years of learning.
I picked up the acoustic guitar in January 2014, but it was too hard to learn and my fingers were getting numb. I didn't drop it, but I switched over to learning Piano in August-September of the same year.
In less than two weeks, I learnt how to play simple songs using solfa notations; and that was a big achievement for me. After a while, I switched over to learning how to sightread. I relied on a small book titled SMALL WOODS, and it introduced me to Classical Music.
Then I came back to the guitar and started learning how to play the Bass Guitar.
Yes! It was a scattered and rough journey. I had no one to put me through, so I was just doing it as the spirit led me.
I also came back to the acoustic guitar and I was learning all of them at the same time. Ominilearner
At a point, Google, YouTube, Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp groups became learning platforms for me and they helped me grow in my theoretical knowledge of Music.
Although it took me a while to learn how to apply the theoretical knowledge, I was so happy to have acquired the knowledge without going to a musical college.
With this knowledge of music, I can confidently learn ANY musical instrument I want (except percussion). All I need to do is to learn the unique blowing or fingering techniques of the instruments, and then apply my knowledge of music to it.
Voilà!
It's done!
Fast forward to today, I am still in the process of learning. Although my rapid growth was as a result of my mentorship with OC Omofuma (the Guitarist who plays for Simi, Adekunle Gold and a host of top Nigerian superstars). However, I haven't gone far because I rarely have time for music unlike before.
However, in all, I am getting better and I hope to grow little by little, till I become a professional guitarist (not as a profession).

I AM KSAM
I may not be your favourite author, but you can journey with me to help me develop my writing skills. I am always open to criticism, correction and learning 🥰.
😂😂😂, ehyaa sorry. you should have come early, you know what they say, the early bird catches the worm
🤣🤣🤣 truly that law was created just for you. I can't imagine the frustration and pain you must have felt when the bars were raised each time, it must have been hurtful.
But I see that you still have the music traits in you not necessary with voice but with sounds.
Reading the post made me know you are truly a musician. I love music but unfortunately, I can't play a single instrument.
You see all these platforms most especially YouTube are a blessing. You can learn from scratch and become a professional with an apprenticeship from YouTube. I have a friend who learn how to do makeup from YouTube and went on to become a professional makeup artist. It is amazing, what we can do when we set our minds to it.
I love your determination towards your passion and talent. Despite how hard the learning was, you didn't give up.
Is nor me dah do it 🤧
I had no choice ooo
Honestly eeeehn
But God pass them sha 🤧
Yea, the music trait is in me... but I've not really been able to progress so much because I don't really have time for music now... imagine I don't listen to music normal nromal ooo, except if I want to play it.
Yea
YouTube is a good resource centre, however you need to be a good researcher to be able to use it well well.
I use them for exams eeehn and e dey sweet me well well....
If you understand how to use them, you can unlock great potential with it eeehn
Thank you for your lovely comment

You are so talented, Ksam !LOLZ and I really enjoy the way in which you write about your passion for music and your life. You punctuate the conversation with humour constantly. It's a good look on you 🤗💗 A fabulous journey and exploration of instruments over the years. I am starting to think that the bar was being moved out of reach for a reason... I wonder... could it be that your true calling was not in voice but in instruments? hehe I dropped in from dreemport this evening. #dreemer for life !PIZZA !ALIVE

I fell in love with your writing skills and the pictures on your journey through music. I love the piano and guitar though I haven't played them once, I love when hearing the sounds they make.
Thanks for sharing this awesome journey.
Indeed... Learning never ends. And as long as you are willing to keep on pushing yourself, then you will most definitely keep on getting better at it.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment
I really appreciate
One person four instrument plus voice ontop. God when 😔
Anyhow we be sha, I sure say I must reach your level...
hehehe
Thanks baba
You too much ooo
Very interesting journey. Keep extending your knowledge and experience and you will become even more versatile in your instrument selection.
For percussion's: Think of them as what they are: An unpitched instrument. Yet the rhythm you know from other instruments (note values) still applies. Easy enough, right?
Keep on rocking 🤘
Thank you so much for your response, I am grateful.
I play a bit of the jazz drum, but I really cant maintain the timing. lol. I hate to be the main man holding the beat because I love being free. I think this is my main reason...lol
With the guitar, I can be crazy sometimes, and ill fall into place....
But with the drums, if i go crazy and i forget my place... I may cause a huge distraction
Hmm, you have stated again oo, I was reading and getting warnings upandan😏.
Indeed you have a very memorable musical journey and I must say you are truly a star (in the making though), I know if I did not add that one somebody will come and give me another warning 🙂.
It's still almost unbelievable that you learned all of these things by yourself with some help from the internet, wow, it shows that you are a blessed child. But it's funny how the voice finished when it got to your turn sha but I will say it was all a process for you to discover your talent.
If the choir had accepted you back then, it would have been really difficult for you to think about learning how to play any instrument sef or don't you think so?
Please come and cut small soap for me oo, may be I will tap small grace 😌😉.
Hehehe
Were you not enjoying the warnings? 😜😜😜
Well, I'm a researcher sha
So I can research something and understand it eeehn without necessarily having a teacher around.
Ahbi

I may not be interested in musical instruments... or I may shaaa

Nawa oo 😂😂 I was just smiling reading those captions of yours and the part that got me laughing was where they made you leave for school and the rule was removed 😂 Perhaps it wasn´t yet time for that. I love how you had to help yourself learn music and here you are, good and still learning.

😂 🤣Ohh boss, I had a good laugh while reading your article, it was just too funny but very inspiring as well.
The message of the call, the caller, the caller tune & the ringtone really did go a long way in discovering your potentials and gift for musical instruments especially the piano which you play so beautifully.
Your story (your true life story before you will come & arrest me) is very inspiring and seeing how you pushed yourself to attain this level is great.
Please beg your elder sister to come and teach me small music ohh
😄
