Wasted years

Looking at the four corners of the prison walls with so much regret and sadness in his eyes,John feels like his whole life had been a dream to him.Fifty years gone just like that.

My name is John Philip, the only son of Mr and Mrs Philip James. My parents had been married for 20 years and because of some health issues my mother could not give birth, so when the news of my mom's pregnancy came to my dad,he was surprised and happy at the same time. My parents had me in their old age and because of that they pampered me with all the things I ever needed.
My dad was one of the wealthiest men in our country, everyone in the country and its environs knows my parents.

I had everything I needed right from my young age,I never lacked anything,I got my first car on my 10th birthday.my life was so full and everything came to me at ease.
Due to my love for adventure,I was privileged to travel to over 15 countries before the age of 20.I went to the best high school in the country. One thing with me is that I love women a lot and I can’t do a day without drugs.I can spend millions of dollars on drugs and women in one night, all these never bothers me cause my dad always sends back whatever I spend in the night.

After my high school education I was admitted to one of the most prestigious universities in the country to study law due to my passion for law. But everything changed in my third year in the university when I joined this group of gang called the “One Man”. When I joined the gang they were so happy because of my family background and the kind of money I spent on the gang.

Everything was moving fine until my final year in school when I met this beautiful lady named Vanessa. She was one of the brightest ladies in our class.we both fell in love and started planning our lives after school. We were so in love that everyone in the school refers to us as love birds,I was planning my whole life around her and since I met Vanessa I haven’t been with any other lady again and I also plan on getting married to her after school.

On one faithful Sunday, after my meeting with my gang,I went to visit Vanessa in her hostel to tell her about my plan for the week, from afar I could hear some noises from her room,I opened the door and saw Vanessa with my friend on her bed,I was full with anger and brought out the gun that was given to me from the meeting we had earlier, and I shot vanessa and my friend.

After shooting them I stood there crying and lamenting on why I shot them. The neighbors called the police on me and I was arrested. When the news got to my parents they immediately rushed to the police station,my dad tried all he could to release me but to no avail. I was later sentenced to life imprisonment.

After my 5 years in prison I was told that my parents were involved in a car accident on their way to visit me and both of them died. My whole life just paused for a moment and I felt the emptiness in life, everything seemed to be flashing through my head and tears rolling down my cheeks. My life experienced a bad turn, and I started to see life the way it is, hustling, the pain and the agony people went through to make a living.

This was such a heartbreaking and powerful story. The way you described John's life—going from privilege and luxury to regret and tragedy—really hit hard. The turning point when he discovers Vanessa’s betrayal and how everything unravels from there was intense. You did a great job showing how quickly things can spiral out of control and how one moment can change everything. The loss of his parents while he's in prison adds even more weight to his sense of despair. It’s a very emotional read, and you captured the pain and regret so well.
