A thief at Dawn

"The lady I met at the mall today. A good looking and elegant lady. Did you know that girl collected a gold chain from me and told the sales girl I was going to pay for it without my knowledge?" Charles asked his friend Cindy, who had been picking some items without paying attention to him.

"So how did it happen?" she asked calmly, holding herself from chuckling

"That lady is so smart, when she discovered the kind of gold chain I picked is just one at the store, she walked up to me and said she already paid for the chain, so I have no option than to give it to her. When the sales girl was passing by, the stranger hugged me, gave me a peck and said thank you darling I was so surprised, on reaching out to the sales girl she told her I was going to pay for it, the sales girl was convinced with the way the pretty lady was comfortably talking to me, so she just package it for her". Cindy laughed loudly , smart, she laughed harder. "This isn't funny", he said.

One fateful day, Charles came across her on his way to work, he stopped by and decided to confront her. Afraid of what he'll do to her, she hid her face pretending she never saw him, Charles insisted on talking to her. While he started talking to her , she was giving him a close observation, making moves on what to pick from him and when he was done talking she asked for a hug, this helped her make her way to steal his wallet without his knowledge. It was until he purchased food at the restaurant and could not find his wallet that he realized the pretty lady had stolen it. He couldn't remember everything, but he knew she hugged him and didn't leave him until after a few minutes. "Thief" he mumbled under his breath, he only wondered why he was so unlucky with her. Obviously she wasn't remorseful for the last act she did, he thought. Charles had to call Cindy to come and help him out with the bills.

Few days later, while he was sitting in the living room with Cindy. Cindy sniffed "For God sake why Will you allow yourself to confront a girl like that?" She asked. Before he could respond, His phone rang, a new number displayed on his screen, it was the lady who stole from him , she has committed another crime that has led her to the station, she told him to come and collect his gold chain and directed him to the police station, getting there she told the police man that Charles is her brother and he's here to bail her, she plead with him and promised to return the gold chain and his wallet.

The gentleman bailed her and asked her why she chooses to be a thief instead of looking for a better job to do. She replied calmly "there's no employment, only those with connections get jobs these days and some of the bosses would want to lay with me before offering a job". Charles though felt pity for her, he wasn't convinced with her story, their two encounters didn't leave a good impression.

Charles further asked, "what is the level of your Education?",

"Bsc" she replied. Charles was shocked, sorry "what is your name again?"Anita replied.

"Okay Anita what if I get you a good paying job will you stop stealing from people?"

"Why not, the rich people feel people from the street have no brighter future, that's why we are on the street, they don't Know that, that is where life has chosen for us" Anita replied.

Okay I will get back to you in a few weeks, Charles gave her some money and told her to stay out of trouble. Some weeks later Anita received a call from Charles and was asked to resume work the next Monday. Charles was so happy because he could help Anita and they became good friends afterward.
