Visit Wat Mae Sao, Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai, Thailand : Temple with many statues.
Hello everyone. In this post, I recommend and take everyone to see another Thai temple. This temple is called Wat Mae Sao. Highlights of Wat Mae Sao include many beautiful and striking sculptures. Especially the various giant sculptures in the temple. In addition to the many beautiful sculptures, there are also beautiful buddha image hall (viharn) and pagoda.
Wat Mae Sao is an old temple. There is no information on when this temple was built. But the temple received permission to establish itself as a temple in A.D. 1897 or 126 years ago. And later in A.D. 1973 (50 years ago), the temple received royal granting of the land to a particular temple by announcing in royal decree. And the temple has been continually renovated until it is the beautiful temple it is today. This is brief information about Wat Mae Sao that I want to share, Before I take everyone to see the atmosphere in this temple.
Traveling to Wat Mae Sao. Wat Mae Sao is a small temple with not a large area. This temple is on the main road (thaton - fang road). If you arrive in Chiang Mai Province. You have to journey from Mueang Chiang Mai District to Fang District on highway 107. When you arrive in Fang District. Continue on the highway. 107, until the bypass intersection. You can journey on the bypass road or the main road to get to Mae Ai District. When arriving at Mae Ai District. Then journey on thaton - fang road to go to Mae Sao Subdistrict. The temple is on the left side of the thaton - fang road.
When arriving at Wat Mae Sao. The first thing that welcomes you is the large temple entrance arch. The first time I see the temple entrance arch. I feel fascinated by this temple entrance arch. You look at the pattern of the entrance arch. It looks very beautiful and wonderful. Especially the top of the entrance arch looks grand.
The area front of the entrance arch.
The behind of the entrance arch.
The temple door, which is inside the arch, is made of wood carved with angel designs. The near the door is a beautiful stucco painting.
On the temple wall beside the entrance arch, to the left and right were large giant statues. Two giant statues made to look like giants combined with angels, Which look beautiful and outstanding. And there are many small angel statues in front of the two giant statues.
In addition, beside the entrance arch below the temple wall are 4 small giant statues. These small giant statues are sitting and each holding a different weapon.
Beside the large giant statue is a picture of King Rama IX. and King Rama X of Thailand. The picture is in a picture frame made from stucco with a beautiful pattern. And there is a blue lion statue next to the picture.
The temple's name plate is also made of beautiful stucco. Area the name plate on the left and right there are two statues with a head similar to an elephant but with a tail of a serpent.
When me and my wife walked inside the temple. We will see the buddha image hall (viharn) first. The temple's buddha image hall (viharn) is made of bricks plastered with cement and painted brown, decorated with Lanna-style stucco designs, buddhism and angels. Me and my wife like the pattern of this buddha image hall (viharn). Especially the patterns on the front of the buddha image hall (viharn), doors and windows.
The stairs at the entrance to the buddha image hall (viharn) on the left and right have seven-headed serpent statues. This is different from other temples I've seen. Most of the time I have seen a one-headed serpent statue or a three-headed serpent statue. In addition, area front of the buddha image hall (viharn) there are giant statues, angel and buddha images.
The behind the buddha image hall (viharn) is a tall and large pagoda. This pagoda is called Sirichai Mongkol Disayawarachot. Built in A.D. 2011. The pagoda is a polygonal pagoda with a bell-shaped top. The below the pagoda is a large room. I read information online. Inside this large room are many old buddha statues. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the inside of the pagoda that day.
Beside the buddha image hall (viharn) there is a large pavilion. Inside the large pavilion are many buddha statues, angel statues and a large gong.
Other atmosphere in the temple. This temple is a shady temple with trees and flowers. There are also many other statues. Fishs raised in a square cement pond.
This is the atmosphere inside Wat Mae Sao. The temple was beautiful and I was impressed. So this temple is another temple in Chiang Mai that is worth visiting and I want to share it with everyone. This is the reason I take my wife to this temple again. After we haven't been to the temple for a long time. But this time we walked around all the temple area we could and I took detailed photos of the temple atmosphere to share with everyone.
These are the stories and photos I want to share for this post. Invite everyone to watch and enjoy my stories and photos. Have a great day. See you next time. Thank you for your support and visiting my post. Bye 🤗
