Tried 13 different beers on my way to Hivefest

(Edited)

This year I attended Hivefest, the biggest Hive community IRL gathering at Split Croatia and it was an awesome experience, both during the actual fest but also before and after! Before arriving to Split, I spent 5 days at Albania, Montenegro and Croatia and 2 more days at the same destinations after the fest on my way back to Greece!

Trip was super dope! Explored new countries, tasted local cuisine and of course tried a sh*tload of beers I've never tried before, 13 to be exact! Some of them were good, some bad, and some of them were just amazing! Of course I've photographed every single beer I tasted so I can both remember the moment and also remember the brands in case I visit these counties again and want a solid cold one!

With the intro done, let's jump straign into the "action". Below you'll find photos of the beers I tried along with some info about them (type, country, alchohol, taste, price etc.). Let's begin!

Korca 🇦🇱

image00012.jpeg

Country: Albania
Type: Pils
Alcohol: 4.1
Price: $2
Rating: 6/10

Tried this one at an Albanian bar for just $2. Taste was refreshing, had a clean golder colour and really easy to drink. Not something special, but a good one for its price!

Nekrar 🇲🇪 // Lav 🇷🇸

image00011.jpeg

StatsNektarLav
CountryMontenegroSerbia
TypeLagerLager
Alcohol5%5%
Price$0.90$1
Rating6/105/10

Tried both of these after a long 8h drive from Durres Albania to Kotor Montenegro. Wanted a not so heavy beer to drink so I went with 2 lagers and oh boi, both of 'em were quite good!

Started with Nektrar, and loved it right after the first sip! Ended up finishing it in 3 sips actually, it was that good (or I wanted a beer so bad haha)! Refreshing, really smooth taste and felt like drinking water with a small twist! Exactly what I was expecting from a lager!

Luv was pretty much the same! Cheap, tasty and easy to drink! But if I had to choose, I'd go with Nektar, that's why one less point to Luv (sorry Serbian fam)! Nevertheless a solid Lager for a hot day!

Jelen 🇷🇸

image00010.jpeg

Country: Serbia
Type: Lager
Alcohol: 4.6%
Price: $2
Rating: 4/10

Late night beer at Kotor, but not my favourite! Wasn't terrible, but not good either. Nothing special about it's taste nor aromas, kinda expensive for its quality, and left a weird taste in my mouth after a couple sips! Cool packaging though!

Ozujsko 🇭🇷

image00008.jpeg

Country: Croatia
Type: Lager
Alcohol: 5%
Price: $2 - $3
Rating: 6/10

Let's move to my go-to choise beer in Croatia, Ozusko! Fine golden colour, bitter taste and foamy, just what I expect from a good quality lager! Price is decent too! It's the best-selling beer in Croatia for a reason!

Leffe 🇧🇪

image00007.jpeg

Country: Belgium
Type: Abbey Blonde
Alcohol: 6,6%
Price: $3
Rating: 7/10

One of the best beers I've tried during my trip. Awesome floral aromas, bittery taste and really foamy! Wish I had a glass with me to taste it as I should! And trust me, after a couple you're really getting in the "mood" with that 6,6% ABV. You should def try this one if you haven't!

Staropramen 🇨🇿

image00006.jpeg

Country: Czechia
Type: Lager
Alcohol: 5%
Price: $2
Rating: 6/10

Tasted this one right after the super enjoyable Leffe, and it was quite ok! Light golden colour, mild taste and decent price! Can't say I loved it, but hey, it was a cool one!

Union 🇸🇮

image00005.jpeg

Country: Slovenia
Type: Lager
Alcohol: 5.1%
Price: $2
Rating: 4/10

This was a random beer I bought at a market before I go chill at a high spot and admire Dubrovnik! Taste was nothing special, felt like most cheap lagers, and it was a bit of a struggle to finish it to be honest! Definitely not one of the best beers I've tried during this roadtrip.

Mila 🇭🇷

image00004.jpeg

Country: Croatia
Type: Golden ale
Alcohol: 5%
Price: $4
Rating: 9/10

God damn this one was good! Thick body, rich foam and a sour taste left in my mouth after every sip! This is what I call a SOLID beer! Respect! A must-try if it's available in your country!

Zlatni Medvjed 🇭🇷

image00003.jpeg

Country: Croatia
Type: Pilsner
Alcohol: 4.4%
Price: $2.5
Rating: 7/10

Really nice beer! Beautiful yellow colour, nice aroma and really exactly what I needed after a seafood lunch! Great artwork on the logo too! |

Tomislav 🇭🇷

image00002.jpeg

Country: Croatia
Type: Dark Lager
Alcohol: 7.3%
Price: $3
Rating: 7/10

Not a huge fan of dark beers but this one was awesome! Super nice fruity aromas, thick head and great taste! Can't hide the fact that after 2 of these, I went straight to sleep haha! 7.3% ABV really hits after a long long day!

Niksicko 🇲🇪

image00001.jpeg

Country: Montenegro
Type: Lager
Alcohol: 5%
Price: $3
Rating: 6/10

Solid beer I tried while eating at an Asian restaurant on my way back to Greece! Not something special, but definitely a good one! Tasted kinda sweet, its head dissapeared fast but bubbles kept going from bottom to top so I guess that's a good sign! Enjoyed a couple of these no problem while eating, light and good!

And the "Best Beer Award" goes to...

Mila by Barilo Brewery 👏👏👏

By far the best beer I've tried in this trip, and one of the best beers I've tried in my whole life! Imagine that when I returned back to Greece I was looking for ways to get my hands on some more, but couldn't find any distributor! Need to dig more and get some of those, they are just SO GOOD! Do your self a favour and do try this one if you ever come across it! It's pure gold!

Thanks for reading my blog everyone! I'm not an expert on beers but I sure as hell love drinking 'em hehe! Let me know, have you ever tried any of these beers? How was your experience?

Much love to everyone!

Well, this report reads like who is who in Beercountry in this region, excellent. I might disagree with you on some scores and remarks though. But this discussion should be made privately, with a !BEER !INDEED !LOLZ

Maybe we could set up a committee of judges and take average scores for final results ;)

Or, like they have it in some sports - five judges, then you discard highest and lowest score.

My husband always likes to try local beers when we go away, so going to a new country is always a delight for him

We missed Mila! That's annoying, better not tell him 😄

I’m not much of a beer expert, but I totally get the excitement of trying something new while traveling. It’s like getting a taste of the culture with each sip! Love how you documented it all those photos definitely make me want to try some of these myself one day. What would you say is the must-visit spot for someone who's never been?"

Beer tasting is the best. About spots, are you talking about Croatia? If yes then Dubrovnik is a must. Split is cool too, but Dubrovnik is on another level of beauty. Expensive but 100% worth it

Leffe was good right? I love drinking all sorts of beer, but never actually dive really into the details of each beer, exept this trip! It was a goal of mine to try many different ones and really try to understand their flavour. Amateur review with not much attention to the fine details, but definitely a good try haha!

If you find Mila just try it brother, it's really really good!

I like this Croatia golden Ale MILA. The color is enticing. But, as you enjoyed all these different beers, hope it won't affect your health. So, if you're opportune to taste them again, which would be your favorite?
