Harvesting Fresh Oregano Crop

After months of hard work, patience and care my father's 2022 Oregano crops are ready to be harvested and of course I was there to give him a helping hand!

My father @aimilios is not a "big" farmer by any means, he currently cultivates around 3 acres of "Greek Oregano" or "Origanum vulgare var. hirtum" and he does everything with his own 2 hands instead of using tractors and modern tools. He also does not use any medicine and plants are watered only with rain water.

Some people think he is crazy but the way I hear him speak about his plants shows that he really loves them and I guess that's the reason he keeps it traditional and simple hehe! That's how he was taught to do this from his father and that's how I'm learning to do it too.

As you can see there is much grass in between the oregano rows and this definitely does not make it easy to harvest but we armed ourselves with hype and stoke and got down to business.

We managed to harvest 3 out of the 40+ rows in 2 hours before the sun started burning hot and those 3 rows produced more or less 12 kilos of fresh oregano. This is around 4 kilos of dried and cleaned wild oregano ready for your mediteranian dishes hehe!

Today's results

Last step was to carry that oregano to a secure and shady place so it can dry in peace. This will take approximately 24-48 hours depending on the outside temperature and humidity.

The Hideout

We still have lots of work left until we finish harvesting everything and it will take around 15 days to do so but I love every minute of it. Spending time with my dad just the two of us, learning stuff from him and providing clean and legit oregano to people? Count me in!

If you're interested in buying any oregano or oregano oil contact me at the comments section bellow and we can work a deal! Hive and HBD accepted of course!

Daim, love the oregano!
It looks amazing and for shure it is meditativ to be at work in such a surrounding. Enjoy to the fullest.

When I read posts like this one I get a bit sad as my father passed away when I was 16 in 2008. But then I am thankfull as he made me who I am and is with me all the time now ;)

Realy bro, I am happy to read you have a good time 🍀

Yeah man, working on the field might be hard but it's so calming at the same time!

Sorry to hear about your father @sandymeyer, must have been tough at that age but as you said he is always with you! Our parents make us who we are ❤️❤️❤️

3 acres is huge if you ask me. As for me, our rice field is about 4.4 acres which I have been working on since June 22.

Hats off to your dad, his love for his crops is unquestionable. Please send my greetings to him (^_^)
