Shawarma is overrated

Greetings!

Upon seeing the prompt for this week, the food aspect caught my eye quickly.

What's that one over-rated meal that just doesn't live up to the buzz?

I wanted to make some trash talk about some of the indigenous food we have in my country that are 100% overhyped, but I thought many people would not be able to relate well. So, let me channel it to a food that many people can generally relate to.

Okay, you're free to call me a local champ, but shawarma is overrated.

I had my first taste of shawarma in 2020 or so, and I was totally disappointed by the taste and the whole thing. It's not like I tasted a poorly made one, nope, I got to taste the best of it because it was made by the best guy in the eatery where I worked.
After I tasted it, the questions that popped into my head were:

• Is this the highly talked-about shawarma?
• Is this the highly priced shawarma?

I couldn't believe it!

Like I said, I once worked in an eatery and I had the shawarma guy under my section. Each of the things used was indirectly provided by me, and each of the sales came to my account. After the first day I tasted it, I began to see some of the voluminous things he usually asked for as not so relevant because they were just too much for such a thing that's not worth it.

He first started with chicken shawarma, but when chicken had gone up in price, we had to switch to beef, and if it was possible, we would have shifted to the simplest available meat in the area...maybe pork. Hey shawarma lovers, pork is good for shawarma, right??

Wait, I've forgotten how he goes about making the so-called flatbread that is not actually bread because it isn't the vibe at all. To be honest, I was expecting the bite of the bread to give a heavenly taste, but instead I got a taste of the planet next to Pluto. Lol.

It's not like I hated it, no, it's just that the whole thing, from the making process, just appeared somehow. In the eatery where I worked, the guy was making it inside the hall with good equipment (oven and others) that were able to absorb smoke. Yes, the smoke was absorbed, but the smell wasn't enticing at all. You know, there's always a nice smell when chicken is being cooked and garnished, but this one didn't give that smell at all.
Each time William (the shawarma guy) started preparing, all the available staff would be shouting about how not-so-nice the scent was. The staff (mostly ladies) loved eating shawarma, but when it came to withstanding the smells of the making process, they lamented.

I've said so much, right? You're free to tackle me.
Shawarma is just overrated!

I still don't know why the price is so high; it should be rated with the likes of meat pie. Oh, I would prefer meat pie anytime, any day.
