I almost became a pastor

Boss: Did you said you read civil engineering in school?

Me: Yes sir

Boss: Why did you go for such course? Are you not seeing yourself? You're to handle "microphone"

Me: (I killed the conversation with silence🤐)

That was the conversation I had with one of the bosses I served under while I was in my home villa. It was a church office and these bosses like to see beyond a typical church goer, I mean, once you're regular in church, they automatically see you as a potential pastor lol!😂

Is being a Pastor a talent or a gift bla bla bla?
Just keep reading as I share my experience on this stuff.
Sincerely speaking, I was(I'm still) a lover of God & church way back at home, I was so devoted and that made me to work in our church office as "everything". Yeah, I was ordinary employed as office assistant but I was there for everything including pastoring. It's a privilege though!

Whenever my boss travels, all the responsibilities fall on me, even when others(deacons and elders were running away) I couldn't run because the responsibilities turned to my job.
I was privileged many times to represent my boss in his ministerial shoes and I don't know what people saw that made them to start seeing me as a potential Pastor. Let me be sincere, it's not like I was good in preaching or very eloquent in English, infact I was just a small boy then. I was just doing my thing and not aiming for any thing special.

With time, I became so popular (sorry, but I'm not bragging) because our church then were making waves. I was opportuned to meet a lot of pastors along the way because I do travel for assignments also.
Then, a time came when our church was recruiting for fresh pastors, then I had a call from a bigger boss, telling me that I should apply because I have what it takes.
"Taaaah! Me? Pastor? I don't have a connection there at all!"
I stubbornly waved it off after multiple persuasions.

All the bosses I served under tried to push me into ministry but I refused. Infact, once they start such sermon with me, I stylishly look for a way out.

It's this really my gift/talent/calling? Maybe yes but I'm not interested.

The most shocking part of it was when I went for NYSC in a far state, I still found myself being active in the church there which was normal for me. But along the line, the pastor tried to "lure" me again into ministry work but I strong heatedly waved it off. I like to serve God in any capacity but not to become a pastor even though it seems like a gift or talent. I've been an usher in church and I just like being there.

After reading this, I know you'll still come and talk me in with "please pray about it, bla bla bla" in the comment section. You can help me to pray too. Lol!😂

This is my entry to the weekly Featured Contest in Hive Learners community.

Thanks for reading😍😍😍

😂😂That’s a good one. I think when you show so much interest in these types of things people think it’s a calling to the pastoral work. Am not surprised they tried to recruit you into the ministry as a pastor.

Well I don’t think you not knowing how to preach too well is a problem. They can teach you all about it. But then again let no not be like your bosses and try to force you into being a pastor. 😂

Hahah😂. Honestly, this is one big problem we have here. Once they see you regular in church, they automatically start seeing you as a Pastor 😂.

Thank you for stopping by bro

Why do people feel that just because you are passionate about serving God you have to be a pastor? I don't like the concept at all, I mean there are myriads of ways to serve God. Ministry itself is in so many form not necessarily being a pastor, singing is a ministry, prayer is a ministry and so many others. Am glad you know God deeply, and am sure if He wants you to be a pastor you will know. Just know that what you are doing is wonderful, God will keep on blessing you.

It's not funny at all the way people push zealous individuals into "ministry".
My own is that, I can't be pushed around. I love the way I'm serving and not ready to diversify into the other sector. If it's God that's calling, then HE should call me well😁🤭.

Thanks for stopping by🥰

I believe there are lots of ways one can serve God not necessarily been a pastor makes one serve God the most. Knowing God deeply and living according to His will is the best. I believe if God wants you in His vineyard He will let you know. Nice write up!
