Hello everyone, welcome to my blog, today I will be writing on the second topic of the Hive-Naija prompt week 61

I’m not proud of what I am about to say but since I’ve overcome the predicament of being a terrible cook I think it’s safe to make the confession now, yes I was once a very terrible cook, I was so bad at it that my elder sister could not trust the boiling of white rice into my hands talk more of preparing other delicacies that involved adding actual ingredients, God even my noodles was sometimes questionable. In my defense it was not totally my fault, as a male child living in a house that consist of women and a mother that doesn’t like company in the kitchen and sends us off after asking us to pound crayfish I guess the odds of being a good cook was slim.

It never really bothered me while I was home though because all I had to do was cross legs and wait for food to be ready, oh if you feel not being able to cook and always eating out is a big flex wait until you’re in the university living alone and having limited funds to spare for take outs, I saw shege, eating junks and spending lavishly and in matter of days I’m out of upkeep money. This went on for a while until I overheard a group of my female colleagues discussing on how helpful it is to stock the house with food stuff and preparing homemade food as it’s cheaper and more satisfying.

Thanks to YouTube, Google, and Recipes pages I follow on Facebook I started following their tutorials and steps on making dishes of course I started with the simple ones like making jollof rice, spaghetti, before moving to complex dishes like Afang Soup, Melon etc. my first few trials were of course questionable where I had instances of my jollof rice being a bit too hard or my spaghetti looking like porridge or is it my soup floating in oil???. I saw it all but I’m thankful for my perseverance, today I can make a decent meal all thanks to food making blogs online like, African FoodBlog.

Too bad I don’t have any image of my first trials as it was too shameful for me to capture, I had to eat it with a heavy heart and in silence too. Yes the internet is a good thing and is mostly advantageous I believe it just needs disciplined people to make use of it in a meaningful manner, instead of just wasting our time with it, we can use it to develop skills or improve already acquired skills that can be of value to both ourselves and the society.
