I Can Be Stupid Sometimes

Well, a lot of the time really. This time though was one of those moments of complete relief coupled with a low grumbling voice calling myself an idiot.

This is what came up when I typed tickle me Thursday into Night Café. I don't know what to think about this creature but I figured he would serve as a mascot for today.

I Decided To Try This Thing Called Dextools

Okay, so Dextools is a decentralised exchange or whatever, but the reason I was interested in it was because of a want to get involved in tokens as they launch, to try and be something of an early bird. There's an option to view live new pairs and check them out to see if any stand out as being a potentially good thing to throw some money at.

I honestly wouldn't tell anyone to do this, because there are a lot of scam coins, duplicates, and rug pulls in general. So, there are big risks involved in doing this.

Yeah, anyway, besides the risks, I thought I'd throw a fiver, or tenner into some of them and potentially make some money if those coins went on to get listed.

After putting some money on my Metamask, I realised that I couldn't send any of it to Dextools because I had to gas, so I had to go and put some Ethereum on it to cover the costs involved with transferring money, and then purchase whatever shitcoins that caught my eye.

I was set, and ready to go, I chose the coin and was ready to buy a tenner's worth, and a prompt came up saying something which I didn't really read before accepting.

BOOM All of my money was gone from Metamask.

I don't know what happened, or why it was gone, but 85 Euros disappeared from my account, and I wasn't even given any of the stupid coins I wanted to buy.

This took place at 2:30 PM while Kaleb was having a nap, and then after a while of searching, I was looking at my 85 Euro on Etherscan but had no way of doing anything about it.

I contacted Metamask support, and they saw the transaction and after about 30 minutes said I would need to contact Dextools about the issue. I couldn't do that so instead I just looked at my money lying somewhere in the ether, and I wondered how many other poor souls had this happen to them over the years.

At around 7:30 PM, I gave up, I had thoroughly wasted my whole day looking it up and trying to figure out what happened, but nothing helped.

This headache, and wasted time are currently worth more than the 85 Euros, so I'll just give up and forget about it. In the back of my mind I didn't want to let it go, but I knew I had to give up.

On the off chance, I checked my wallet, to see if by some magic I sent it back to myself, and sure enough it was sitting there... I'm an idiot.

Also, get this, I spent 20 Dollars-ish worth of Ethereum to send it back to myself. Day wasted. Headache suffered. And I was down 20 quid for the trouble. But, at least I got it back.

That is why I gave up on Dextools and decided I wouldn't try it out again, it's too head wrecking, and I'm afraid of wasting more money transferring money to myself.

@ablaze wrote a post last week about an idea to create a piece of content with the intention of sharing something funny, and I figured I would give it a go this week and share my mishap.

Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies. What a wild emotional tale with a twist at the end. The crypto-gods were messing with you (and having a chuckle)

Damn well that’s a 20$ lesson that’s better than an 85$ lesson or 850$ lesson lol. Glad you got it back but getting exposure to these things is good I think. We have to adapt and learn how to navigate these changes in how people do things in decentralized ways!

I think it's cool, and it's something I really want to dabble with, based only on the idea of getting in early with some projects - especially considering how crazy things can go.

But, I think I need to really sit down and do some research into it before trying it out again.

Oh shit!!! That sucks man! I'm more of Hodl head in general, but lately I need to liquidate some Crypto as we are getting tarmac in around the house and that ain't cheap! My head is wrecked to be honest with all of the hoops I've to jump through to get my mula. It was easy to put money into Binance, NXM etc but getting it out is a ball ache!

Oh man, I recently cashed out some too. Last year Binance allowed me to withdraw directly to my card, but this time I had to set up a SEPA transfer with Revolut. It was a nightmare, but I got it in the end which is all good, and it was actually fairly handy to do.

I bought myself this piece of equipment because I started recording the process of making a model with clay but couldn't get good enough angles using a tripod alone. I'm really looking forward to having a go of it.

Good luck with the tarmacking dude, and with the withdrawal.

Nice bit of kit man, that'll make for some quality photos. Quite a niche area too with the clay models. Best of luck with that.

I've another week or two to get the money, so might see if this bill market can push on another notch or two and squeeze another bit out of it.

It arrived yesterday and I'm really happy with it, I haven't had a chance to do anything yet with it, but I'm hoping that Thursday and Friday I'll be able to get to it.

The model making is something I've grown to love, I'm still learning at the moment but with each one I pick up techniques, also I follow a few people who do it too, and watching others has given me some great tips and tricks.

Speaking of the markets, Shiba Inu went nuts and I've been selling some of them trying to get in the mindset of getting out as we're climbing as opposed to holding all the way back down haha

Oops! You are right to be wary. I had an email that was apparently from Metamask, but I thought it was suspicious and I don't have anything in there anyway. I also heard of a fake wallet app in the Ubuntu Linux store that stole from people. Crypto is not simple and a small slip can be expensive.

Thanks for the beer, I think I needed it after that stress haha

Yeah dude, I have to be careful with this sort of stuff, so I decided to take a bit of a backseat in future until I feel a bit more comfortable treading into the deeper side of the pool.
