Dome Locked - Part 4 (Novella)

(Edited)

Here is an ongoing story I have been writing for the last month or so. Currently, there are four chapters written, and this one here is the start of the fifth.

It started before November and was enjoying the story and characters, so decided to try and complete it as part of NaNoWriMo, but, here we are in December and I'm still working on it.

Currently, I have a feeling the Eighth chapter will be the final one, however, it could go on a bit longer than that, based on how the story concludes.

The exit was within reach. Crowds turned to small gatherings; pockets of people who hadn't made it far into Sin. The music was still playing, but from this distance, it wasn't as overpowering as it was within the main hall.
Both of them walked out, and were barely looked at by the security at the - open - front door. Mari followed suit and could feel the gentle breeze blowing in. It wrapped around her and cooled her off. She hadn't realised how warm she felt from being inside, and the light gusts were a welcome feeling.
As she was passing by, Mari paid no mind to the guards, and they didn't seem to pay any attention to her. Stopped in her tracks by an extended arm acting as a barrier. The scales of the Triskens arm were melted and fused in places from some old wound that must have healed poorly.
"What? Why are you stopping me?" Mari asked as she attempted to push past it. They didn't budge, and as she pushed a few inches through, the Trisken shoved her back into the venue.
"Wait." He said, as he pressed an earpiece in with his free hand and he started whispering.
The Doshan stood on the outside, watching what was going on, and she nudged her partner to say something to him, but he was too busy talking with some of the others.

"No, you're not going anywhere." The Trisken said as he directed his full attention at her. "Go back in and enjoy your night, Human." The words sounded pleasant, but the venom in his voice was apparent.
"No." Mari said as she shoved past again, gritting her teeth anticipating the impact.
The Trisken grabbed her by the scruff of her jacket, and dragged her closer, almost lifting her off her feet before throwing her backward. She stumbled, almost falling. She didn't though. Using the momentum to her advantage she stepped lightly. Coming to a stop, Mari planted herself. In the chaotic spin, she was turned around, facing down a few patrons. They could only stare at the commotion. Fingers on steel. She removed Nippy from its holster. Spinning in place, she noticed the looks of fear on some of the patron's faces.
"You're letting me out of here, whether you like it or..."
As she made the 180-degree turn, Mari realised the Trisken was on her. He clearly expected something like this to happen. He said nothing, and just grabbed the barrel of the weapon and aimed it to the air. She let off some shots, but it didn't matter. All it seemed to do was send people running. A few shots were enough to heat the barrel, and she couldn't help but laugh at the grimace the Trisken let out.
He hit her arm, sending a shooting pain up from her elbow. His grip loosened instantly, and he spun her once more. Now, she stood unarmed as he turned the weapon on her and fired a flurry of shots.
Mari didn't budge. Didn't flinch. She just stared. Her stare quickly turned into laughter. As she watched the bullets whizz out, and turn instantly to head back toward the shooter. Idiot. She thought. Blood sprayed out of multiple slight impact craters on his upper body and face. He fell to the ground instantly and twitched slightly after landing.

The other security guard let out an anguished scream and charged at her. Mari could have dived for her weapon, but she couldn't react. Instead, she just watched him charge and felt the fist against her face. Knocked on her back, she felt the warm liquid stream from her nose. The pain only registered moments later. Through watery eyes, she could see the figure standing over her.
A kick to the leg was impossible to block, and another to the ribs was impossible to see coming. Her breath was gone by the third blow, and by the fourth, she lost complete consciousness.
