Dome Locked - Part 1 (Novella)
Here is an ongoing story I have been writing for the last month or so. Currently, there are four chapters written, and this one here is the start of the fifth.
It started before November and was enjoying the story and characters, so decided to try and complete it as part of NaNoWriMo, but, here we are in December and I'm still working on it.
Currently, I have a feeling the Eighth chapter will be the final one, however, it could go on a bit longer than that, based on how the story concludes.

The deepest level of Sin was a maze of narrow corridors, before opening up into the main hall. The lights painted the walls every colour imaginable, but regardless of the lighting, it was too dark to see properly. Not that Mari would have been able to see properly even in a well-lit room.
In the centre of the room was a large oval stand, with outfacing speakers in all directions. Walking the perimeter of the room maintained the quality of the audio, although, certain areas extenuated certain sounds. Drums and bass were ever present, but they would dampen under certain conditions.
"What?" A Beskin asked. Covered fully in light fur, with just two beady eyes peeking out from beneath it.
"What?" Mari mimicked his voice, as she tried to hold her eyes open, which were under constant assault from the light.
"You were saying that the music changed depending on where in the room you stood." The Beskin replied, casting a confused look as he finished.
"No," Mari responded as she looked around the crowded room. "Did I?" The Beskin nodded slowly and started to laugh. "You're screwing with my dome," Mari said as she shook off the idea of her talking about music. She hated music. The only reason she came to Sin at all was for the drugs.
Caps were her favourite of all. Little bundles of joy coated in dissolvable material. Melt-in-the-mouth goodness in every drop, and a very short fuse until launch. The countdown was exciting. Anticipation for the night to come.
"I didn't catch that. But, I like caps too." The Beskin replied.
"Stay out of my head! You wanna get slabbed?" She shouted as she reached for Nippy. Small, sleek, and painted by Mari personally. It was devastating. "Enough to kill you seven times over, before you even have a chance to hit the street."
The Beskin raised a hand as if asking her to chill out. "It's not my fault that you're rambling nonsense. You must have taken one too many, you look like you're about to take a spill."
"Only thing that's going to get spilled here is blood."
The toilets were filthy as usual. Disgusting places filled with degenerates.
"Yeah, so anyway, I had the gun drawn." A Doshan said as she raised a device to her mouth and hit the top of it. A blast of brown vapor released, coating her lips, teeth, and tongue. "I never felt so scared, but I shot, and I hit the target. Some Peacekeeper. It was kind of an initiation." She passed the packet over.
"What do I do?" Mari asked as she inspected the small-looking device with the brown and orange liquid swishing around inside,
"It's Haze, you never done Haze before? The High Flyers manufacture it. It's our biggest export." The Doshan asked. "You just wrap your mouth around the bit at the end there and then press the top. Look, let me show you." She took it in her hand and pressed.
A blast of metallic-tasting mist shot into her mouth and even though she was trying to inhale it, she couldn't and fell into a fit of coughing.
"I think you did it wrong." The Doshan said as she put the device in an inside pocket of her jacket.
Mari's throat was on fire. It stung too, and it felt as though the sensation was never-ending.
The Doshan's red hair fell in her face as she fused with her jacket, and Mari could see every strand of it as it collided with each other with a crunch. Then she looked at the wall and could see the ink as she had never seen anything before. It was as if she was staring at the wall on a molecular level and could see the drips that made a single drop of paint, which made up the slightest section of graffiti.
"What have you done to me!" Mari shouted. "I feel like my eyes are zoomed in, or something!" She screamed, this time far more panic-stricken.
"Yeah, it can kind of feel like that. You'll be fine, it only lasts a few minutes." The Doshan replied. "See, this stuff was created through necessity more than anything. Speeding through the city isn't easy, but this stuff helps the Flyers stay focused."
It was like being in a dream. Or, a nightmare. Even moving her head didn't stop her from focusing on the wall. Nothing she did helped.
"Just take it easy. It takes practice to master this stuff, I probably should have mentioned that." The Doshan started laughing, and for someone who sounded oddly naïve, she had an evil side to her, apparent by the laughter.
