DAILY BATTLE JOURNAL EP.6 (12-6-23) - The Long Attrition Battle
In this journal episode, I experienced my first long-winding attritional battle which built from the two ruleset, Born Again
and Holy Protection
. Both ruleset surge all cards with additional endurance, which delay the run of the battle, basically because respective formation must put extra hit to bring down their targets. Rebirth automatically revive each eliminated cards once, while Divine Shield block every first attack hitting the cards. Combined then each cards will gained Divine Shield twice, at deployment and after revived. A balance of health and damage must be attained to allow your formation survived long enough while maintaining sufficient damage output. So lets see how the battle have been running.
WATCH BATTLE
So here I will share a single battle on how Dispel have cancelled the effect of Martyr. (https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_886d2c7f7249e02e1b151b0c38c7d6d3)
The battle has 48 mana cap, with Born Again and Holy Protection ruleset, with Fire Splinter and Earth Splinter as exception. For my formation, I used:
Position | Card Name | Level | Mana | Health | Armor | Speed | Damage Type | Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Summoner | Grandmaster Rathe | 1 | 6 | - | - | - | - | - |
1st Row | Evelyn Auvera | 1 | 5 | 4 | 8 | 2 | None | - |
2nd Row | Corsair Bosun | 1 | 10 | 5 | 6 | 3 | Melee | 4 |
3rd Row | Djinn Renova | 2 | 7 | 6 | - | 3 | Magic | 2 |
4th Row | Adelade Brightwing | 1 | 7 | 5 | - | 1 | Magic | 2 |
5th Row | Pelacor Arbalest | 2 | 6 | 3 | - | 2 | Ranged | 2 |
6th Row | War Pegasus | 2 | 7 | 7 | - | 4 | Ranged | 2 |
My opponent formation:
Position | Card Name | Level | Mana | Health | Armor | Speed | Damage Type | Damage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Summoner | Thaddius Brood | 1 | 4 | - | - | - | - | - |
1st Row | Cursed Windeku | 1 | 6 | 9 | - | 3 | Melee | 2 |
2nd Row | Silent Sha-Vi | 1 | 5 | 5 | - | 3 | Melee | 2 |
3rd Row | Life Sapper | 1 | 3 | 2 | - | 2 | Magic | 1 |
4th Row | Supply Runner | 1 | 6 | 4 | - | 3 | Ranged | 2 |
5th Row | Mantoid | 1 | 6 | 5 | - | 2 | Ranged | 2 |
6th Row | Dhampir Stalker | 1 | 7 | 5 | - | 2 | Ranged | 3 |
This is actually an imbalanced battle, primarily due to the 11 mana gap. In addition my formation have a number of higher level cards. I decided to go with Grandmaster Rathe, because of one thing. Rebirth will brought back cards with all their original parameter, with exception to health, which stay at 1 health. This means any broken down armor will be restored to their original value. Because melee and ranged attack have to hit the armor before health, magic attack become a key factor to finish any revived cards. Void Armor turn into a key for victory, because it will redirect magic attack to hit armor. Grandmaster Rathe not only grant Void Armor but also a +1 armor, that's a total boost!
Evelyn Auvera was chosen as the primary Tanker
since it has huge 8 armor for just 5 mana. Corsair Bosun in the second row both as secondary Tanker
and damage dealer. Djinn Renova is useful for its Strengthen will benefit the entire full formation. Adelade Brightwing are the mirror of Djinn Renova, but Adelade having Repair is very useful to keep the survival of the Tanker
. Finally the final 2 rows are filled with main damage dealer which is Pelacor Arbalest and War Pegasus.
My opponent bring a selection of cards which not particularly strong. The formation depend very much on ranged attack as the main damage output. But it is doubtful because the front row Tanker
doesn't looks too solid. Silent Sha-Vi might be a secondary Tanker
, but its pity to waste the Sneak ability. The three ranged cards will deal a total of 7 damage, but its a long way to go against Evelyn 8 armor times 2.
The first round are opened by War Pegasus and Djinn Renova, both strike directly into Cursed Windeku. My formation entirely focus their target into Cursed Windeku, meanwhile my opponent are split between the first row, back row, and non-melee middle row. With a strong pressure to the front row, Cursed Windeku have to yield by the end of the first round.
The punishment continues as War Pegasus open with a second kill into the revived Cursed Windeku. This left Silent Sha-Vi to step up into front row, leaving Sneak attack no more. Corsair Bosun easily drop a fatal blow into Silent Sha-Vi. And its not long before Adelade finish it. Pelacor Arbalest have been a great help, putting a double attack, which ensuring that Divine Shield are cleared from any revived cards.
Obsidian with the magic debuff have downgrade so much both Djinn Renova and Adelade Brightwing. But Corsair Bosun with 4 melee damage always stand ready to clean up any remaining health. And right when Life Sapper got revived, Pelacor Arbalest fire its arrow to finish it for goods. Evelyn Auvera finally met its fate in the hand of Dhampir Stalker, and here where it become intresting. Instead dying, Evelyn Auvera revived with a full 9 armor and 1 health, which turns is a solid wall being supported by Void Armor.
Entering 4th round, the chances are slim as my opponent left with only 3 cards, and one of the ranged card have to froze up as Tanker
in the front row. With combined attack finally Supply Runner met its demise. Pelacor Arbalest again finished the job by firing two arrows that swipe away the armor and kill.
History repeat itself at the 5th round. This time Mantoid meets its demise and even Rebirth could not save it by the end of the round.
With only Dhampir Stalker remaining, there's no longer chances for my opponent to make a comeback. And the battle ended with a dominating victory.
