When I was younger, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, while other children wanted to be doctors and lawyers, I was indifferent because I never really thought much about my future, maybe it was because as a child, I spent more time thinking about my next meal and how I could afford to pay my fees, but, regardless future plans never occurred.

Due to this factor, when it got to the time to choose between arts and science in high school, I was torn apart, I didn't know what to choose and I didn't know if I would be making the right decision.

Still, since I had to, I did and that spiraled into a lot of events when I got to the university resulting to me moving around different departments and not really fitting in any.

Finally, I graduated with a degree in criminology and while I want to say the rest is history, I can't since this whole experience brought me to where I am today.

HOW DID IT IF YOU MAY ASK?

Well, in my country, a degree in criminology isn't something that is praised and even though I get a lot of compliments about how unique it is, the compliments don't exactly come with a job which is scary.

For about four years, I have been doing a lot of jobs, most of which didn't concern with my field and a lot of which are very low paying.

While doing these jobs, I was still applying for others, but I kept getting rejected which wasn't good for my mental health so, I stopped.

Around last year I came to hive and since then, I have been on hive full time but, as much as I needed the hive break and as much as I love writing on hive, I need other streams of income and I have always wanted to build a career.

ANXIETY: WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE

Now, you might be curious where anxiety comes in but, ever since I started thinking about these things, I have been incredibly worried about my future and what's to come.

I guess poking at this part of my life that I had been trying to keep hidden came with a lot of walls crashing and it got me asking myself a lot of questions; what happens if I can't get a job and what happens if I can't build the career I want.

These questions have brought an intense fear and worry to my life and I can barely do anything these days without my heart skipping a bit.

Right now, I will want to move on to how I am dealing with it but, before I do that, lets talk a bit about anxiety.

WHAT IS ANXIETY?

We can't talk about anxiety without knowing what it is and to me, anxiety is just being worried or scared about an event or an outcome which is uncertain.

Like my case about the future, some people can have anxiety about their relationships, children, or even finances and, anxiety is a pretty normal feeling that every human experiences.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ANXIETY?

There are a few symptoms that I use to know if I am anxious and they are:

  1. Being nervous or tense.
  2. Being shaky.
  3. Increased heart rate.
  4. Fear or panicking.
  5. Overthinking or inability to focus.

There are much more ways to know if you are experiencing anxiety, but these are the few that are familiar to me.

HOW DO I DEAL WITH ANXIETY

I have always been an anxious child, I guess mine comes from overthinking and worrying about everything, and as much as I have been living with anxiety, I have had to cope with it and some ways, I do this are;

  1. Distracting myself.
  2. Praying to God or talking to someone.
  3. Taking a walk.
  4. Writing about it; like I am doing now
  5. Doing something that makes me happy or doing a hobby.
  6. Lastly, sometimes I use positive affirmations.

IN CONCLUSIONS

I am still struggling with being anxious and I know that eventually, my future would work out but, knowing this doesn't make me feel better most days.

I do know that I have to work on having anxiety and I am doing that one day at a time and hopefully soon, I’ll be way better.

Just know that if you are dealing with this, you will be fine, soon enough.

Cuando era más joven, no sabía qué quería hacer con mi vida, mientras que otros niños querían ser médicos y abogados, a mí me resultaba indiferente porque nunca pensé mucho en mi futuro, tal vez fuera porque de niño pasaba más tiempo pensando en mi próxima comida y en cómo podría pagar mis cuotas, pero, independientemente de eso, los planes de futuro nunca se produjeron.

Debido a este factor, cuando llegó el momento de elegir entre artes y ciencias en el instituto, me sentí desgarrado, no sabía qué elegir y no sabía si estaría tomando la decisión correcta.

Aun así, como tenía que hacerlo, lo hice y eso se convirtió en una espiral de acontecimientos cuando llegué a la universidad que me llevó a moverme por diferentes departamentos y a no encajar realmente en ninguno.

Finalmente, me gradué en Criminología y, aunque quiero decir que el resto es historia, no puedo, ya que toda esta experiencia me llevó a donde estoy hoy.

¿CÓMO LO HIZO SI SE PUEDE PREGUNTAR?

Bueno, en mi país, una licenciatura en criminología no es algo que se alabe y aunque recibo muchos cumplidos sobre lo única que es, los cumplidos no vienen exactamente con un trabajo que da miedo.

Durante unos cuatro años, he estado haciendo muchos trabajos, la mayoría de los cuales no tenían que ver con mi campo y muchos de los cuales están muy mal pagados.

Mientras hacía estos trabajos, seguía solicitando otros, pero siempre me rechazaban, lo que no era bueno para mi salud mental, así que dejé de hacerlo.

El año pasado llegué a hive y, desde entonces, he estado en hive a tiempo completo, pero, por mucho que necesitara el descanso de hive y por mucho que me guste escribir en hive, necesito otras fuentes de ingresos y siempre he querido construir una carrera.

ANSIEDAD: PREOCUPACIÓN POR EL FUTURO

Ahora, puede que tengas curiosidad por saber dónde entra la ansiedad pero, desde que empecé a pensar en estas cosas, he estado increíblemente preocupada por mi futuro y lo que está por venir.

Supongo que al hurgar en esta parte de mi vida que había estado tratando de mantener oculta, se me vinieron encima un montón de muros y me hizo plantearme un montón de preguntas; qué pasa si no puedo conseguir un trabajo y qué pasa si no puedo construir la carrera que quiero.

Estas preguntas han traído un miedo y una preocupación intensos a mi vida y apenas puedo hacer nada estos días sin que mi corazón dé un vuelco.

En este momento, voy a pasar a hablar de cómo lo estoy afrontando pero, antes de hacerlo, vamos a hablar un poco de la ansiedad.

¿QUÉ ES LA ANSIEDAD?

No podemos hablar de la ansiedad sin saber qué es y, para mí, la ansiedad es simplemente estar preocupado o asustado por un acontecimiento o un resultado incierto.

Como en mi caso sobre el futuro, algunas personas pueden tener ansiedad sobre sus relaciones, sus hijos o incluso sus finanzas y, la ansiedad es un sentimiento bastante normal que todo ser humano experimenta.

¿CÓMO SABER SI ESTÁS EXPERIMENTANDO ANSIEDAD?

Hay algunos síntomas que uso para saber si estoy ansioso y son:

  1. Estar nervioso o tenso.
  2. Estar tembloroso.
  3. Aumento del ritmo cardíaco.
  4. Miedo o pánico.
  5. Pensamiento excesivo o incapacidad para concentrarse.

Hay muchas más formas de saber si estás experimentando ansiedad, pero estas son las pocas que me resultan familiares.

¿CÓMO PUEDO HACER FRENTE A LA ANSIEDAD?

Siempre he sido un niño ansioso, supongo que la mía viene de pensar demasiado y preocuparse por todo, y tanto como he estado viviendo con la ansiedad, he tenido que hacer frente a ella y algunas maneras, hago esto son;

  1. Distraerme.
  2. Rezar a Dios o hablar con alguien.
  3. Dar un paseo.
  4. Escribir sobre ello; como estoy haciendo ahora.
  5. Hacer algo que me haga feliz o hacer un hobby.
  6. Por último, a veces utilizo afirmaciones positivas.

EN CONCLUSIÓN

Todavia estoy luchando con la ansiedad y se que eventualmente, mi futuro se solucionara pero, saber esto no me hace sentir mejor la mayoria de los dias.

Sé que tengo que trabajar en tener ansiedad y estoy haciendo eso un día a la vez y espero que pronto, voy a ser mucho mejor.

Sólo sé que si estás lidiando con esto, estarás bien, muy pronto.

Saludos @khaleesii ciertamente el pensar en lo que vendrá y no tener nada cierto, nos causa ansiedad, más si respiramos y vemos las cosas con calma, luego buscamos en que nos beneficiará y hacemos lo que nos toca, dejaremos de tener miedo o temor a lo que está por venir, una frase que me ha servido es que venga lo que venga recibelo con buen animo, espero te sirva besos

I never worried as a child but now...oh boy!
And anxiety is like a double edged sword. While it may factor in the reason you finally take the bull by the horn, it also paralyzes someone.

Some people may perceive people that experience anxiety as being unfocused, unstable, and unsettling. And although some of the attributes tied to these adjectives may actually relate to that feeling, it is often because the people that use them are of

To me, anxiety is some form of "feeling concerned," basically being self-aware and afraid of negative outcomes. This makes me look at the good side of anxiety and lets me realise that it is basically being "human".

Yes, it is a heightened sense of one's surroundings. And we all know that too much of anything is bad, so when it isn't toned down, it makes you feel "panicky," which is something you can't just accept.

Just like you, I always jumped from one ambition to another as a kid. But deep down, I just wanted to be successful, and I always had a strong inclination towards science and technology, so I just went to science class.

You have accurately described how anxiety feels. And your ways of dealing with them are very practical ways of handling them.

I don’t think anxiety can be positive though, it isn’t fear of just the negative outcomes but also the positive one and while it can push you, it can also deter you.

I do understand that people would use it for good but the feeling for me is never good and it makes me run the other way.

Praying to God or talking to someone.

This is one thing I go back to when I am feeling anxious of the future. Sometimes, I experience anxiety because I am not in a relationship yet 🤣🤣 and it makes me feel as if I would be delayed even when I am almost clocking thirty but I still pray and believe God.

Doing something that makes me happy or doing a hobby.

Just as you are always dancing and making TikTok videos😎👍👍

The truth is, no one would say he or she hasn't gone through anxiety in any issues they are going through but the best is to redirect our focus back to God and let Him work the best out for us.

All will be well and you will finally get a good paying job. The best is yet to come, partner. Trust God.

Well, I know things will work out for you, God’s time is the best and you should put yourself out there, a lot of time we want a partner but we barely ever go out enough to be seen.

Also, yeah that’s why I dance a lot, it helps a lot actually and I am doing well, I’m trying to keep up, it’s hard though but I’ll be pushing

I am always inside too but whenever I go out I get to meet men, not like I like them but you get, no matter the experience, you should go out more.

You know I thought I was the only one being anxious of the future especially now that I'm stuck with moving forward in school due to the strike and not knowing what to do even while I try to make wise use of the strike.
Or is this is just me over thinking

I better just make use of these methods to deal with my anxiety

I had that congratulation in secondary school weather to be a science or arts... My mum chose science for me, but was kicked to Arts class 😂😂.... I became a commercial student....
Anxiety is normal, but it can really rob us of the benefit of today, because we think of tomorrow.....

It is nice to read your thoughts on your worries and how you deal with them. I guess it is normal to feel fear when we think about the future and without knowing what awaits us. The important thing is that we don't overdo it and we become so anxious and stressed out. Glad that you do have strategies that you apply to get out of it :)
