Bringing my work home & June 1st 2022 #hivepowerupday

My roommate and I got very familiar with this device. I’ve tended to Cancer patients before in my training years and the few brief Institutional stints. I remember the protocols associated with patient infusers, but this BD Carefusion Alaris PCU is light years from what I was taught.

image.png

My roommate and I have been close friends for years. She’s very much a private person so I can’t share her personal details. So, this is more about my feelings of this whole affair and how Cancer effects me through a friend I care about.

Being a practiced health professional the company’s policy is a shield that prevented me from being too involved with the lives of my patients. It can't shield me now.

Since her diagnosis last Christmas, It's been an emotional roller coaster ride that had more or less settled down. "We must play the cards we're dealt with and be thankful for what time we still have." And I find her taking this much better than I would.

We held hands. I said, "We’re going to fight this disease!"

With the surgery behind us we are now passed the halfway point of this first round of Chemotherapy.
I planned meals with foods that ensure an optimum in antioxidants and nutrients suited for her dietary needs.
Then, I've upgraded my home diagnostics devices.

image.png

We’re even trying Cannabis therapy. “Dragon’s Tear as a supplement. I’m trying ‘Charlette’s web’ myself as a supportive preventative. Her Cancer Specialist claims that the therapy doesn’t gain significant benefit but is also known not to contraindicate any of her prescribed medical regimen. In other words, “It wouldn’t hurt.”

For those that never tried Cannabis you are in for a little trip even though the amount of THC is relatively small.

This brings me to this piece of silver given to me last fall by Nyssacat. It was a bit out of place in my Stacking style but sat on my coffee table for a while, looking for a context to write a post. Now, here we are.

Glo-in-the-dark Silver Weed by Tyneside Silver
image.png
You will have to click on the above link to see the cool glo-in-the-dark feature.

While I saw this to be coincidence, my roommate thought saw this as divine providence.

It seemed predictive in it's symbolisum.
I continue to stack silver, which is a given.
That Cannabis will play a role in her treatment.
The Angel trademark representing heaven's host having a vested interest in our situation regardless of the results. Being a practicing child of God giving her peace of mind.
And the 'Glo-in-dark' feature prescience her possible need of radiation therapy.
I'm not going to quote any our the lame glowing jokes.

So far, the results are very encouraging with the latest CT scans indicating more than a expected reduction in tumor size.
Even with her stamina drained we found new energy to celebrate winning our first battle with a hug and a renewed hope.

I worked as a community nurse for a handful of years and met patients on a Cannabis program in one form or another. Some good but anecdotal results and benefits not the silver bullet some would believe. I don't think the we have the whole truth on the official clinical research either, especially Govt backed ones.
Thanks for the support @tbnfl4sun

That sucks. That really, really sucks. Good luck to you both! Certainly hoping for a speedy recovery.

And also a part of life and it gives us pause to value what time we have left and to think of what is more important. Yet there can be a turn in events such that she could still outlive me. Anyways, her faith in Jesus Christ is her strength and comfort. Death is but a small matter in an eternal perspective so that we will meet again.

I'll take a sprinkle of luck with divine intervention any day, @wwwiebe

This is great, this made me remember some equipments back then which we use to treatment while I was still in the health care

I currently work in a group home setting. It's been a while since I did Institutional care so the quality and sophistication of medical equipment had jumped leaps and bounds since. And Cancer treatment has made many inroads with it. I hope we caught this thing in time and the technology to make the difference.
Thanks for the comment @heskay

I will continue to pray for your roommate. Even being a health professional, being close friends can take it’s toll on your health as well @kerrislravenhill . I am glad she had you, no one should go through Cancer alone …

We don't consider it an accident that we become the best of friends over the years, it was meant to happen. I owe her much for her friendship and favors in the past.

Thanks @silvertop

That great that her CT scan was positive. I remember chemo and radiation on my dad. They were doing both at the same time. It drained him so much. God bless her and her fantastic friend Raven.

She describes making a simple sandwich or getting into my car is as like running a marathon, she's short of breath and exhausted afterwards. Any small task that was routine now takes preparation, planning, and making sure everything is close at hand or out of the way. Even should there be hospital space available she would decline the bed, I know she'd rather be home.

I appreciate you sharing that experience with your father, @silverd510

For the support she's given me in the past, It is the least I can do as a long time friend and as a church sister.
The positive results we got has improved the odds and I'll take it any day.

Your so right might as well give it a try. Especially since the side effects are very benign, especially compared to other medications. Perhaps when your friend gets a higher tolerance, bump up the THC milligrams, and also try to get that full spectrum of cannabinoids, and terpenes:)

She's new to Cannabis such that a tiny drop from an insulin syringe made her uneasy on her feet, a bit of a falling risk. Tasted awful but made the "Sky greener, the grass bluer" and somewhat more talkative. I can live with that.

I will always welcome any helpful advice @canna-curate

I’ve tended to Cancer patients before in my training years and the few brief Institutional stints.

How does it feel like seeing them . I am sure you are use to being around them now. I want to start making wigs for cancer patients. I have been procrastinating for years now. I hope I will start one day

A powerful sense to exercise compassion and it was clear that my calling is to be a nurse.
BTW, not everyone feels like her but my Roommate found that being bald is very liberating. She had long hair before.

Rick Simpson, 2008

After a serious head injury in 1997, Rick Simpson sought relief from his medical condition through the use of medicinal hemp oil. When Rick discovered that the hemp oil - with its high concentration of THC - cured cancers and other illnesses, he tried to share it with as many people as he could free of charge, curing and controlling literally hundreds of people's illnesses... but when the story went public, the long arm of the law snatched the medicine - leaving potentially thousands of people without their cancer treatments - and leaving Rick with unconsitutional charges of possessing and trafficking marijuana!
Meet the people who were not allowed to testify on Rick's behalf at the Supreme Court of Canada's infamous Rick Simpson trial on September 10, 2007 including a man who was cure

Even if the evidence is anecdotal, it would still be well worth trying Cannabis.

This is the stuffs big pharma doesn't want you to know about.

Run from the Cure is a great documentary.

Also have you heard of urine therapy? Look up a book called "Water Of Life" By Doctor Armstrong, written in the 1970s. If you want a copy, drop me an email [email protected]. Urine therpay heals cancer. Also oxygen therapy...but that one costs...

It's never in big Pharma's interest in finding the cure for anyone but for themselves.
Juggling a few options at this time, I appreciate the leads.

Thanks @dswigle, she's in pretty good spirits at this time. Taking this better than me. The treatments have been depleting her energy and stamina effecting her mobility,on the other hand she likes not having hair to maintain all the time. She hasn't bothered to try my Cosplay wig yet.

We just lost a close cousin to a 10 year battle with breast cancer.. She was such a light in our lives and we still can't believe she is no longer here to make us laugh. She always had a way with that. 10 years and it never took the best parts of her. She always told me she was never afraid of the dying part, but rather dreaded the day she had to say goodbye to everyone. It was a terrible day and I spend a lot of time hoping she didn't worry about it when the final moment arrived.

Your medical experience will prove helpful, regardless of your experience level when it comes to cancer. But more importantly is the strong bond of friendship you have with each other. A sisterhood of sorts that will stand the test of time. That's cool. That's the real winner in this and the cancer has no idea that it is making your bond all that much stronger. My thoughts and prayers are with the both of you, as you navigate this alone and together.

Just one last quick quote from the eulogy I read at my cousins funeral.. I think you will get a chuckle out of it or it may just bring you a much needed smile.

"When Tiffany was having one of her numerous tests – a bone scan – Brad had the day off and said he would drive her to testing since he had some things in his truck to drop off at the recycling station. It was a good day for Brad and Tif to spend some quality time together so Brad drove her to the health campus, she got her radioactive injection and then they proceeded to the recycling center since Tif had to wait for the tracer to circulate through her body for about 2 hours. They drove into the building to drop off some old equipment and as soon as Brad opened his door the alarms started to go off. Everyone stopped what they were doing and started to question Brad about what equipment he had and was dropping off. Brad was so confused because it was just everyday junk that we needed to get rid of and there was nothing unusual in the small pile he had. A woman had asked him if there was anything radioactive in the pile and, of course, he said “no”. They spent quite a while questioning him and trying to figure out why the alarms were going off. This is the lightbulb moment --- Brad opened his door and asked Tiffany if they injected her with something and what it was. Tiffany started laughing and said, “OMG, yes, they injected me with radioactive dye.” Of course, Brad started to laugh and then had to explain to the woman about Tiffany's situation and the injection she had just received. A very tense moment that ended in laughter for everyone."

She would probably kill me for sharing this photo.. but tough lol.. This was taken after her chemo treatment. Tired and feeling blah, Molly and Pepper knew she needed some of that cuddle lovin. 😊

Nice silver too! I kind of like the glowing thing it has going. It and the story you spoke about in your post, reminded of that eulogy quote above. GLOWING! lol. Tell your friend to be strong and always stay 'Radioactive'! You know what I'm sayin.. I hope. lol

Isotope contrast dye yes, she's done that a few times already.
For fun I'd turn off the room lights and say, "Are we glowing yet?" We have yet to determine if she needs Radioactive therapy. That would be following a few more Chemotherapy sessions and another CT scan to be done.
My kids and I decided to at least spend a good part of Mondays together and maybe tick off a "Bucket list item" if she could rally up enough energy and stamina to have a go at something fun and make our time count. After five sessions we can already see how this treatment is wearing her down.

Thanks for sharing a bit of your Cousin's journey @bdmillergallery ❤️
