The fourth release of the Black Flag series feature Captain William Moody’s vessel, The Rising Sun, a beautiful coin that is worthy of adding to the treasure booty of the Bloody Raven and her silver armada. I give credit and thanks given to Captain Nyssacat for his valued assistance in securing this most seaworthy piece. ❤️

The historical ship itself defies detailed description among surviving records. I presumed Moody had served at some capacity as an English naval enlisted or otherwise but it remains a mystery as if the Admiralty reputed of maintaining accurate records, decided to expunge the case, sheer speculation of course.

What is known about the ship was it’s former name, Resolution of which English ship names carry a historical pedigree. The Rising Sun was outfitted with 36 guns and boasting a crew of 130 souls, thus, easily placing the ship within the Light Frigate category, a category that the Bloody Raven would prefer as her ultimate recreational vehicle. The light frigate has superior speed and maneuverability consistent with her sword style rather than fire power.

Though the coin depicts The Rising Sun in action, it is featured as a square rigged, three-masted ship with two gun decks, suggesting a heaver medium class frigate by the second gun deck.

The English born Pirate Captain William Moody seems only a footnote in the original publication of Captain Charles Johnson’s 1724, “A general History of the Robberies and Murders of the most Pyrates.”. While most biographies line up with some corroborating evidence some simply do not. The two volume book mention the Captain survived his ordeal enough to have made his way to Bermuda and accepting the Governor’s royal pardon.

His short tenure as Captain from 1718 to 1719, Moody’s numerous looting and burning of ships in the Caribbean drew the attention of Governor Robert Johnson in assembling a sizable force to pursue and capture The Rising Sun. The news may have prompted Captain Moody to sail towards the African waters. The decision may have begun the crew’s resentment however the mutiny led by Thomas Cocklyn was in large the response to Moody's treatment of the crew. Moody put down the mutiny and stranded Cocklyn with his 25 followers ashore without their plunder share.

It wasn’t long until the remaining crew took over The Rising Sun and cast Captain Moody with his 12 supporters adrift in the open sea and were eventually presumed lost.

Under acting Captain Levasseur, The Rising Sun returned to retrieve the stranded Cocklyn and his men and the crew elected Cocklyn as the Captain of the Rising Sun.

No further record has been found pertaining to the fate of this ship.

And this started out as a custom built treasure chest by our fine craftsman @silverd510. Only that my treasure chest is now 140 ft long, Beam of 32 ft, draft 36 ft, three masted, square-rigged, 24 Authentic cannons, satellite GPS Marine navigational suite, twin diesel 750 hp engines, hot tub, and Jolly Roger.

I just need to score big on a Shitcoin.


Will be available for Hive parties, bay tours, and movie shoots.

It is an 8g Beau Sterling silver Galleon broach, one of two found by Schrwartzy as he combed through garage sales in search of silver goodies. Nyssacat picked this up for me from Schwartzy's IG page.

They make as handy ship markers on charts, and look good on black fabric.

William Moody may not quite be a people person but Thomas Cocklyn had a more brutal style to the victims when it came to pirating. Moody could have proposed a vote for the Captaincy. Or allowed Cocklyn and his men their share.
But, that's history.

Fact or fiction, I've always liked a good pirate story, especially the old Hollywood pictures as well as the newer Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Studying the historical golden age of pirates does have it's eye patch popping realities that don't line up with pop culture perception but it's good to know.

This series of coin had run it's course with premiums much higher due to their collect ability. I'm hoping for a new series to come out.

OMG looking good there! I have to be a bit careful spending things for a few more weeks but once I see some options to buy, I'm defo digging into silver and gold again. Until then I will just enjoy the content by others :)

I've been buying silver and gold since 2015 and met my main objectives so I can afford to pick and choose themes more to my liking and keep me from being bored. Since then I have seen so much different product out there, the selection and choice is overwhelming.

I feel like I missed this coin. If I don’t post about them (which I rarely do anymore) the coins just end up in a box and I forget what I have or don’t have. But this is a cool one. The whole series is great. The silver ship in your first photo is cool too.

You have an Off-line life with it's own priorities and concerns, therefore we can't always keep abreast of things all the time.
For instance my Roommate's health has deteriorated and has more needs.
With my commitment aside, I still find Hive requires more time than I could actually spare and takes its toll on my need to get adequate rest.

Is there a chance your roommate’s health will improve? Or has it come to the point of being solely comfort care?

Either way, she is incredibly lucky to have you. Your selfless devotion to the people you care about is so apparent. And I know it isn’t easy to do that while still taking care of the mundane day to day of life.
