The relationship that exists between Nigerians and our electricity distributors.

There is something about the way infrastructures are run in underdeveloped countries like mine. It's as if whatever is being done on the central level works against the microscopic segments of the country.

A really good example is the issue of electricity scarcity which we have been facing in this part of the world.

I will talk about that dreadful issue in a minute but have it in mind that scarcity of sufficient electricity supply is not in the top 5 list of the issues we are facing in the country. The list goes on and on, but for the sake of this write-up, let's focus on the issue of electricity.

The type of relationship that exists between Nigerians and our electricity distributors is the type of relationship that exists between a bully and a victim of bullying. From all indications, the way things should be is that we all get to pay for whatever electricity we use, but that's never the case for houses where there are no prepaid meters.

This is why our electricity distributors have no qualms distributing monthly energy bills to people when they barely give a power supply that equates to what you pay. Very often, we see situations where people pay these monthly charges but hardly get up to 90 hours of power supply within the whole month.

Gosh. How much I hate that distasteful line. Make a guess... I'm sure you know who that can be coming from.

What's disgusting about this whole thing, just like many anomalies in the country, is that; even though these people are rendering very poor service to those that pay for the services, they keep getting away with it.

The ones suffering are those that pay for such services and it's really weird.

It's no bloody wonder... Almost all households and businesses are buying standby generators. You just can't count on the electricity distributors to give you a sufficient power supply. Nope. We've been trying that since antiquity, but it doesn't seem to be yielding good results.

At the moment, the desire to live conveniently warrants that we all have to improvise. Despite paying fortunes as electricity bills, we still look for ways to generate a decent amount of electricity that will keep our gadgets powered on. That's one of the ways we rebel against the recurring electricity issue we face in this part of the world.
