The tall trees hunch together
Leaves and branches entwine above
A shield around that lonely soul
Who treads in solitude
Surrounded by the coiling shadows
Whose dark eerie nature
The silver moonlight pierces

The sound of almost-quiet footsteps
Shuts the chirping of the crickets
Whispered secrets fill the foggy air
Anticipation rolls chills through her
But the journey is long
Yet nature's long limbs embrace her
A soothing caress on her cheeks

Twisting tendrils of the shadows
Reach out under the mask of fog
Like a veil of ethereal seduction
Where dreams are indiscernible
From her reality
To muddle her pathway
Into a labyrinth of terror

Undaunted by the murky fog ahead
She teeters with uncertainty
As the tendrils lose their gloomy hold
Fading into the moonlit night
Crickets and nocturnal birds resume
Their melodious symphony
For the one who wouldn't be bound.

Few escape the ethereal enchantment
Of the dark forest
Puddles littered as traps on their paths
Their journeys abruptly cut short
When the shadows and terror own them
Resolute with every stride
She emerges from the veil a victor.

This poem is written in response to the Blockchain Poets Weekly Prompt. The first image used in this poem stirs up a melancholic mood. It depicts a person on a journey through a dark forest at night. There's a fog ahead and the moon is high up in the sky.

It's a journey where the person must walk alone but there are puddles on the road, which if not careful, the person may fall into. This portrays the reality of life. There are certain journeys we must walk alone to discover who we truly are. The protagonist in this poem walks this journey despite whispers in the dark, the seductive tendrils of the shadows reaching out and without falling into the puddles, comes out a new person.

I'll gladly welcome your thoughts on this poem. What do you think?

Thank you for visiting my blog.

A lovely poem, thank you. My take-away from it would be: believe in yourself, keep on pushing, continue on your track and you will prevail, no matter how dark the hour is.

A poem with some verses loaded with messages of life The natural emerges in an analogy of life, existence and experiences, a rediscovery of walking down paths that are sometimes dark with gray inks.

Beautiful poem.
Thanks for sharing.

Wowww....I love how lyrical your words were weaving into one another and I also appreciate your thoughts afterwards.
You're right that no matter how supportive and how much we need the presence of the people we love in our lives, a challenge still comes where will have to venture on alone.
Beautiful!🌸

True! We must walk alone sometimes so we can value walking with others. Thanks so much for your comment. 🙂 !LADY

This a very sultry poem, and I like how you managed to maintain that feel throughout the verses. It fits very well with the atmosphere of the image prompt.

Heh. I understand. That's happened to me a few times. Constant stream of info coming in everyday, a few messages are bound to get lost in the shuffle and misfiled in memory. :)
