The Cusp Of Time [Poetry]

My expectations soared as the days drew close
The world spun on slow wheels
But I wanted it fast
In a haste to reach that age
Where my dreams' wings flapped
Poised to take to the skies

Patience, those aged voices hummed
My tempest rumbled from within
As the pressure bore down on me
To be and do as others
To walk the greenery, cool path
The path of freedom

I sought to confirm
So I could be accepted
A tight, aching cage around my lungs
I strove to breathe
Amidst the angst and gale
As the daunting plea beckoned
Be your own self

It's all choices and chaos thereafter
An unkind whirlwind
Wiping away illusions of years past
Yet I believed not
As I battled my emotional storms
And finally turned sixteen

My heart soared with joy
As I embraced the illusive freedom
My spirit transformed to live a new life
Disappointment looms before
Choices and consequences haunt me
As I wish to relive my younger days.

A remembrance of things past, as Marcel Proust might say. The poem appears to touch on a time that was unique and special because the choices made at that tender age and onwards unraveled in conflicting ways, good and bad. So while there's regret, there's also hope. I could be way off, but that's the feeling I get.

You're not way off. Indeed it's a reminiscence about a time when we were young and time seemed slow, we want to grow up so fast. Then we become adults faced with consequences of our actions, we long for those carefree, simpler years again! 😄
