These are our Weekly Poetry Picks:

On A Coffee Shop By @itsjunevelasquez

A forbidden relationship? A clandestine affair in a restroom? I kid you not, this poet gives us a sizzling taste of passion colliding in a blast with societal expectations. A good read of this short, free verse poem immerses us in the speaker's portrayal of love and passion.

Every line is emotive and palpable. We see a relationship that draws strength from a past connection and yearns for a continuation of their affair, and all this happens in a coffee shop setting but culminates in the restroom! I love the use of second-person narration and the hint at a forbidden relationship. The beauty of art is boldness and courage, depicting life in its true colours. Well done, @itsjunevelasquez. We hope you keep writing with us.

There are poems that make you feel good and others that depict the reality of life. This free verse poem reveals the two 'faces’ of love and life. It's like a coin with two sides—love and heartbreak! This poet takes us on a journey of an unexpected encounter with love, the betrayal and eventual demise of love and the process of healing.

I was fine before love found me
I was at peace before love came to me,

And quickly, the tone changes to one of heartbreak.

Until love became a stranger to me.
Then it stabbed me in the back.

I believe this is a feeling and experience that most people can relate to. The structure of the poem—split in phases—makes it lucid and an enjoyable read. The imagery, emotional depth and choice of words makes this piece a thought-provoking one. I enjoyed reading this, @esther-emmanuel and hope you continue to publish your works with us. Well done!

At the heart of every relationship is honesty, trust and loyalty. This poet writes from the heart and reveals the consequences of falsehood in this short poem. She explains these concepts, starting with modesty and integrity and soon enough, the mask is removed to reveal hypocrisy.

Honesty is the key to trust
If everything is just a cover
The hypocritical mask plays the main role

Her use of imagery and metaphor is rich, revealing the truth about human nature and need for discernment. This piece doesn't fit into a specific traditional poetic form, it's free verse. I like that the poet's language is straightforward and easy to read. If you want a thought-provoking poem on the moral integrity in relationships, this is the piece for you. Well done, @tanicha! We hope to read more inspiring poems from you

These are our selections for this week. We hope the Scholars found something to read and the Scribes discovered something new about the craft. Thank you for stopping by and see you all next week!
