Introduction

Greetings my new friends, I have been in this platform for more than 1 year, although I lot the key to my first account. What I was trying to say is that I have been in hive for more than one year without noticing this hivenaija community, I was serious then anyway because the other communities weren't giving me the support I needed and I hardly see contests in this platform.

Today am here to present a wonderful post that talks about the cashless policy we once faced in Nigeria. Am sure so many of us still remember her painful it was to survive that period, things were very expensive here and there and most people died out of hunger.

2023 cashless policy

Last year December when this new currency of a thing was beginning to start small small, we weren't believing it all, most of us thought the old one will still be existing for some time. Most times the new money will land on our hands and we will want to spend it quickly because we don't really trust the system of the country.

Most people were thinking the money might be banned immediately and they wouldn't know what to do with it if it finally gets banned. Am learning a barbing skill and I remember when my boss finished barbing a man's head that early period of January, my boss gave him the new NGN500 note and the man rejected it saying he wants the old one.

Can you see the extent it reached. Finally the old currency was banned from using, NGN200, NGN500 and NGN1000 respectively. I was so surprised when the leaders of our country decided to ban the old ones, I was thinking we will still be using it till it completely disappears in the country, just the way we were still using the old NGN100 note when the new one came out as at 2015. The old one is still in existence as well.

Before the ban, we were now told to deposit all our old money in the bank so that we can be given the new one. Out of desperation, we quickly did so, nothing knowing it would have ended in our favor if half of the citizens of the country didn't obey such law and hid the old currencies in their bedroom.

The new currency wasn't flowing as we all expected, to the extent we weren't even able to withdraw money from the bank. This was when POS workers made lots of money as their charge increased heavily. There was a time in my area that same month of February when the charge for withdrawing NGN5,000 was NGN2,500, NGN10,000 was NGN5,000.

People were dieing out of hunger because of this rules. There was no money in the country as 90% of businesses where now done with transfer, both women that sells in the market, started receiving transfer. Even barbers, shopkeepers, restaurants women, electricians, plumbers, mechanics and so many others. Most people were even receiving fake alerts and getting scammed. This country is really causing pains to we it's citizens.

Conclusion

I will continue the other side of the story in the second part of this post, I can't really say everything in one post because it was a long and painful experience and I really want to remind you guys things that happened then, in full details. I thank @hive-naija for his support and information in my first post in this community, this is actually my second post here.

Thanks for reading friends and have a nice week ahead.
