The unseating of an incumbent leader has been a practice in Africa for a very long time and the fact that it's something that is reoccurring is something Africans should be worried about. This illegal forceful activity started since the nineties.

Most African countries has at least witnessed a coup d'etat due to reasons which there are facing currently. The apparent cases of corruption, leadership failure, embezzlement and the malodorous institutions pushing good governance. Most of these overthrown African countries are democratically elected governments which prove to be the best form of government because of what it guarantees but has woefully failed to live up to its expectations; its acknowledged global acceptance as the best system of government.

In the past years, African leaders have gone behind democracy to quench their thirst for power, money, and filthy gain. In alliance with the westerners, they've been able to rise to power against the wish of the people who are later impoverished.

Most African countries are richly endowed and blessed with natural resources but cannot boast of quality education, quality health care, functional and efficient industries and factories, good roads and many more. This is as a result of the awful and atrocious government that governs these countries which later leads them to be forcefully overthrown by the military. As far as African leadership remains terribly low, the resurgence of coup d'etat and its consequences will be far-reaching and disastrous in the whole of Africa.

The re-emergence of military coups have been seen as baseless and a wrong step to follow by Africans after the experiences they've had and how they are still being haunted by the remnants of its misrule. The African society perceives military to be an embodiment of terror and infamy. The fact that this is an alarming issue is mainly because of its excessive interference on the fundamental rights of the people. Besides, given the fact that democracy has been a failure in most African countries, international and regional bodies or institutions have also not sufficiently addressed the issue of civilian coups; whereby elections are rigged, presidential terms are being prolonged and it's what prompt the military to overthrow the current government.

As been said earlier, that the impact or effect that coups have on a nation can be far-reaching. It negatively affects a nation's economy, diplomatic relations, and therefore set off a series of instability in such country, i.e, Business organisations are unlikely to make investments in a country where there's insecurity. Such country is also likely to fall into recession and individual income growth is also likely to decrease drastically. Disengagement and dismemberment of a country as a member state from an international or regional body, and so the deferral of aid or assistance to a government that came to power as a result of a coup.

Something is for sure, as long as prolonged presidencies, fake declaration of election results and manipulation of judicial announcements are being tolerated and there will always be military coup.
