FEELINGS
Have you ever wondered where our feelings come from? Or what are our emotions made of?
Just to be clear I will be using both terms ‘feelings’ and ‘emotions’ interchangeably.
There have been so many stories and experiences recounting the impact the emotion has had on people, I won’t delve into that. I am guessing you also have your experiences as well.
Importantly there are also well meaning researches going on on this topic or related, and some interesting discoveries cropping up about the mysterious power we possess in the form of our emotions.
What is of interest to me in all these rambling is the origins and ‘matter’ or nature of this invisible or ethereal phenomenon. But to start this discussion a question I think and find pertinent to answer with respect to the conversation is, “Why do emotions exist?
Emotions exist because we exist in this world. Our emotions are one of our survival tools that we brought with us as we came into this world. Going deeper, emotions are a fundamental aspect of our physical existence.
Think of it this way, our emotions are not a part of us, but our emotions only exist because we exist in this world. So, our emotions are one of the qualities that we inherit as voyagers in this material world. This should suffice for now.
Did you notice something from the previous paragraph, our emotions are prerequisite and or follow-come aptitudes of existence in this material world. You and I know that we haven’t seen our emotions, but they are necessary for us to continue living in this world. Also, an important point is that our emotions are not an essential part of us. I will try and explain these concepts as we go on.
So, where do our emotions come from? Take a guess, what do you think?
Our emotions exist within our soul. Now, hold up! I am not going all mystical, please be patient with me as I journey along this line. I use the word ‘soul’ to mean our conscious self, that part that feels alive, that’s all.
The soul is a function of existence in this plane of existence. It is a necessary constituent of a being in this world in order to directly, effectively, and efficiently interact with the material world in which the being is born into. I hope you are still following to this point.
Take caution as you read all I am writing, don’t take it as complete, final, no! I want to awaken you to see more than what you already see. To stir up long buried questions so as to seek their answers.
To help me better communicate this idea, I would use the analogy of the human body (PS: I am a dental student, so it is easier for me to think in the human body). So, let’s continue!
Think of the soul as a human body with various parts (organs, systems etc.) The emotion is likened to a system in the human body (this time the soul ‘body’.)
Like a system in the body it is made up of various parts which undergo certain specific processes to achieve what we know as our feelings, emotions, and sentiments.
Within our soul, our emotions are not isolated from other parts, but similar to our human body our emotions are connected and related to the various systems(faculties) within our soul.
Following this will be to know what is the stuff of our emotions. Well, this will be quite easy to understand when we first know what the soul is made of.
It is the same material with which the spirit (the subconscious self) is made of that the soul is made of except for the spirit’s quality of independent existence.
It will be unfruitful if I say the material is a type of energy, (when the human body is also made up of a type of energy), but that’s what I have for now. I call it ‘essential energy’ the primal (true) form of energy.
This dependent nature of our soul makes it very distinct from our spirit. And this defines the very nature of our soul. The emotions as a part of the soul is likewise a dependent system. Dependent on external stimulations either from the material or immaterial worlds.
In as much as we are conscious of our soul it is still a dependent entity within our being. We are our subconscious selves (spirit) or better our spirit reveals more of who we are as a person. If you noticed I am mostly relating the soul with the spirit. It is simple, the spirit and the soul have similarities that cannot be ignored, and are vital in understanding the soul.
From the ongoing, it is easy to see that our emotions in our soul, is a reflection of what goes on in the two planes (the material or immaterial worlds) There is a lot to figure from this post, and a lot to talk about. But I will stop here.
To be honest, I have not provided enough information to make sense of what I have written here. So, let this be an appetiser for you to search this out. I will write more on this topic as an opportunity present.
