A journey to and from the Airport of Zurich

It all started a few months ago, when I planned my trip and booked my flights!

I was ready and I even announced it here :)

The day had finally come, I would travel from Heraklion Airport to Zurich Airport!

It was 4 in the morning when I got to to the field and was waiting my ride to the plane. I was flying with Swiss Airlines (HER to ZRH) - or more accurately, Edelweiss plane.

I had booked a window seat to enjoy the view, but for some reason the windows did not offer a clear view. So, this is the view from Heraklion city!

At approximately 5 or 6 in the morning, I got my breakfast on board :)

And during the lovely sunrise, I was on the other side of the plane, so I just could photograph the shadows and the cloud colors.

I was so pleasantly surprised to see the Alps and Switzerland as we were approaching to the airport!

It looked so more beautiful than the pictures!

We were fast approaching Zurich Airport and I was ready for the adventure!

Just landed!

What a fantastic airport, with great large planes! I loved it and was very excited!

It was a long time till my next flight so I decided to find out where I would sit, where the info boards where, toilets and places to charge my phone. It is easy to find these spots, on every floor of the Airport.

Something that you should know is that they provide free internet only for 4 hours. After that, you will need to buy more (and it is not cheap)

Zurich Airport, also known as Flughafen Zürich is the largest international airport in Switzerland and is located approximately 13 kilometers (8 miles) north of central Zurich.

It has 3 floors (I think) with cafeterias, snack bars, duty free shops, souvenir shops, lounges (you can pay more to be in the Swiss lounge) and also .. listen to this!! Smoking lounges!

I had never thought that I would find smoking lounges, maybe they are in all international airports; Let me know!

I had too much time to kill, so I decided to spend some time at the cafeterias around the airport. They have a great system. You go, you order using a QR code, pay immediately, and then they come to serve you. When you pay, you are also asked to leave a tip (if you want)

(This juice cost 8,70 euros)

I sat for a while and then decided to walk around the airport.

It had some lovely spots, I loved taking photographs!

Does anyone fancy a Rolex gift;

IMG_8174.jpeg

Luxury was evident in all of the shops!

IMG_8175.jpeg

Time passed and I got hungry!

IMG_8176.jpegIMG_8186.jpeg

21 euros for a sandwich and water

But what a view!

Later I went to my gate and was ready to take off, but after an hour of delay, we were informed that our flight got cancelled.

It was the day with the Crowdstrike issues, and when I went to the info boards I saw that most of the flights were also cancelled.

I was not panicked, but I knew that I had to keep money and save energy until I would figure out a solution. After this, I did not take many photographs - I was mostly running, or waiting in one of the huuuuge people lines to wait for instructions by the airline companies.

Let me share a few more information about this airport, before I close this post

The airport opened on June 14, 1948. Since then, it has grown to become a major European aviation hub. It features three runways, with the longest being 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) in length. Zurich Airport is well-connected to the city and the rest of Switzerland through an extensive network of surface transport links, including trains, trams, and buses1.

Tip: You can find your flight in the above website and you can arrange notifications to be delivered to you via whats app or messenger! Very convenient :)
