Magical Main Market Square in Krakow at night / Klimatyczny rynek Starego Miasta w Krakowie nocą
The Main Market Square in Krakow, like all remnants of the Old Town, is a bit like a time machine. The Cloth Hall, St. Mary's Church, and the surrounding historic tenement houses take us back to the old days. That night, when I took the photos that you can see in this post, I was walking around the Main Market Square in Krakow with my friends and we were looking for a place where we could eat something, sit down and talk, and on the way to such a place, we visited the area.
We were after a day of workshops led by people from all over the world and we went to a little bit of integration. What a nice pre-covid time it was. Now, probably everything would be done online and it would not be possible to make such nice friends. At that time, I had not lived in Warsaw yet and realized quite late that there was a poor connection to Krakow from my town. Fortunately, thanks to social media, I was able to catch a car ride with people who also went to the workshops and it was great, because we got to know each other better in the car, and then it was the people who picked me up that we integrated on the Main Market Square in Cracow.
Jakie to były fajne przedcovidowe czasy.
The history of the Main Market Square in Krakow dates back to the 13th century, is the largest square (4 hectares) in Krakow, as well as one of the largest markets in Europe. Almost all tenement houses and palaces around the Main Market Square are several hundred years old historic buildings. The house, among others: the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow and the International Cultural Center, as well as shops with exclusive goods. On the square there are: Church of St. Adalbert, the town hall tower, the Cloth Hall, the Adam Mickiewicz monument, a plaque commemorating Poland's accession to the European Union, a plaque commemorating the Kosciuszko Uprising, a plaque commemorating the Prussian Tribute of 1525, a sculpture by Igor Mitoraj and the Walenty Badylak. Around the Main Market Square you can see the St. Mary's Church, a number of historic tenement houses, and the statue of Piotr Skrzynecki.

Niemal wszystkie kamienice i pałace wokół Rynku to kilkusetletnie obiekty zabytkowe. Wojciecha, wieża ratuszowa, Sukiennice, pomnik Adama Mickiewicza, płyta upamiętniająca wejście Polski do Unii Europejskiej, płyta upamiętniająca Insurekcję Kościuszkowską, płyta upamiętniająca Hołd Pruski 1525 roku, rzeźba Igora Mitoraja oraz studzienka im. Walentego Badylaka. Wokół rynku można zobaczyć Kościół Mariacki, szereg zabytkowych kamienic oraz pomnik Piotra Skrzyneckiego.

The moon and clouds above the illuminated Cloth Hall created a very nice atmosphere. You can see this combination of the natural world and a building built a long time ago. I remember spending many minutes trying to take a nice sharp photo and as you can see I finally made it. During the day, many shops with jewelry, souvenirs and local specialties are open in the Sukiennice, and now everything was closed, and many people were walking on the Krakow market square.
After some time, we found a suitable restaurant and we sat down in the beer garden, overlooking the Main Market Square.
