A recent strange experience.

Recently, I had a funny yet frustrating experience. On Monday, I was preparing to go back to school when my brother, who lives in the UK, sent me some money to help me buy the things I needed. As soon as I saw the alert that the money had been deposited in my account, I thanked him right away—without receiving any credit alert but the money had already dropped inside my account. I didn't want my mum to know about the money, so I kept quiet about it.

Later on, I decided to add an extra 10,000 naira from one of my other accounts to the same bank account, bringing the total to 60,000 naira. But when I checked, the 10,000 naira hadn’t appeared, so I reached out to the bank’s customer care online. They told me they were undergoing maintenance and that the money would reflect in 24 hours.

The next day, I finally got the alert, but instead of 60,000 naira, the balance showed 52,300 naira. I was shocked! A whole 7,700 naira was missing, and I had no clue of what happened. I was annoyed, then I went back to the bank's customer care and complained, thinking they had taken the money for some unknown reason. They reassured me that the money would show up, but after a while, they stopped responding.

Frustrated, I decided to let it go for the moment and planned to visit the bank in person. But before I went, I thought to check my account transaction history. That was when I noticed that instead of 7,700, 7,760 naira had been deducted for a web payment. I was so confused because I couldn’t remember making any recent online purchases at all.

After digging through my emails, I realized what had happened—I had signed up for a free trial on the Fotogrid app a while ago with my A.T.M card, and i forgot to cancel it before the trial ended. They already sent me an email after the free trial was over to cancel the payment but i didn't check so the app automatically charged me the subscription fee, which was the exact amount I had been missing. I was so angry at myself for forgetting to cancel it!

All the while, I had been venting my frustration at the bank, not realizing it was my own mistake. That 7,700 naira loss really pained me, and without thinking twice, I quickly transferred the rest of the money out of the account to avoid any further surprises.

Your frustration is understandable. It is good that you investigated further before going to the bank. These things can happen but it is not pleasant when we least expect it. It was wise to remove the funds to avoid any possible additional surprises.
