๐ The Wife & Kids Go On Holiday While I Man The Fort ๐ฐ
The @kidsisters and @sreypov are on a one-week holiday with her ex-in-laws, and I am at home living the bachelor life and giving the house a deep clean.
I Forgot I Have An iPad ๐ฑ
ย ย ย My wife's ex-in-laws are in Cambodia for a holiday from the USA, where they have a donut shop and some other businesses in California. They invited my wife and kids to tag along on their adventures, so I requested an absence from school for one week, and I also had to tell the other kids they'll be missing school for a week too. Honestly, I need a break from the seemingly never-ending commutes, so it's a holiday for me in a sense too.
ย ย ย I have an iPad that I rarely use, mostly because I just don't have time because I'm always on the computer working and I use my phone to listen to podcasts and music. The iPad just doesn't have a space in my day, but without my typical morning commute, I can afford to work more slowly and even distract myself with a daytime movie, something I haven't done in ages, even if it is a previously downloaded movie that I don't like. Well, when you pay per MB for your internet, Netflix is a weekly or monthly event.
ASEAN Hive & Noodles ๐
ย ย ย I spent the first day catching up on ASEAN Hive stuff, and since I'm temporarily living the bachelor life, it's noodles at the desk for me. I hope to give the house a deep clean before they return, as I fear the mice will damage our things if we don't store them more carefully. We never had time to properly unpack from our move as well, so many of our things are unorganized and in boxes/bags.
Deep Clean Time ๐งน
ย ย ย Part of the reason for the deep clean was to check for evidence of mice/rats, and the results were better than expected, but unfortunately the little things targeted my webcam wire, and that will not be a cheap fix. I hauled everything out of the bedroom and gave it a proper sweep and mop, and next will be to organize the front room, a difficult task when we have hardly any furniture to store items. It will be a lot of stuffing things into coolers and empty suitcases, but at least things will be more organized than they were after our hasty move.
ย ย ย It's a bit overwhelming because there was a ton of dirty dishes and laundry to do when the ladies left, the house was already mess, so I guess I'm taking one for the team on this day. I actually enjoy cleaning quite a bit, and our place is long overdue for a deep clean, but moving everything out of each room while the family is here is not so easy. It makes for pretty boring Hive content, but my day was pretty boring, so there ya' go.
Reptile Highlight ๐ฆ
ย ย ย While cleaning I noticed a lizard on the wall that was bigger than my hand, but after a closer look I realized it wasn't a tokay gecko, the species that usually gets this big and much bigger too. After I got close it ran away, but very clumsily, I could sense it wasn't use to being on a wall like the other geckos I am used to seeing. It almost looks like a baby crocodile. Well, that's all for now folks, stay tuned for some hopefully more exciting content soon.

enjoying dragon fruit and also enjoying noodles is one very good thing even i enjoy this very often while writing,In my village the gecko should not be touched if it is in the house. That is what has become a culture and of course something that must be obeyed
The pink dragonfruit is very delicious when cold, so I always put them in the fridge before eating. I think Cambodians have similar beliefs about geckos, especially a very big one called a Tokay. Each house can only have one Tokay because they are territorial and eat other lizards. We don't have a Tokay, but this new species of gecko is very interesting to me, very clumsy on the wall.
Wow Looks like I will soon buy dragon fruit and put it in the fridge to enjoy As you said, also for the gecko. Of course I haven't seen it for a very long time because the environment I live in is not too many trees so it is very difficult to see the animal but if I returned to my brother's house which was a bit deep into the interior. I would easily find gecko geckos in various people's houses.
I'm already imagining my black fluffy cat ๐บ, Otel catches it. Otel always put the lizard or cockroaches or frog corpse in front of my house's main door to show off to us.
I think there are so many geckos here in Cambodia that even a cat could live on a diet of purely wall geckos and still never hurt the population ๐. I know some cats that like to present half-dead gifts to their owners, such bizarre little creatures aren't they.
That dragonfruit is mouth watering. We only have the kind that is white on the inside here and my goodness is it overpriced. Something like $5-$6/piece of fruit.
Oh no, that's expensive, but I too have never seen them affordably priced in the USA. Last time I was back home though, a Chinese market in the big city near me had affordable jackfruit and few other well-priced tropical Asian fruits. I enquired and she said the Mexicans are now growing Asian produce to sell to Asian grocers, so I'm sure that will keep bringing the prices down. I can't believe Florida isn't full of tropical fruit farms considering the prices they fetch there.
That's wild that we be get Asian fruits from Mexico. I wish it were Florida, it seems like a decent enough climate to make it happen. Mexico is closer than Asia though, that's for sure.
Closer is almost always cheaper, and even though we are in the land of tropical fruits, our particular area has only been settled for 10 years, and because we're remote and high in the mountains, we pay more for these things because they aren't grown here. Most fruit trees around here are less than 5 years old, but in another 5 years our village will have lots of mature fruit trees.
I wondered what type of access to things like fruit you have. Very interesting that even in the country in which it grows you must pay a slight premium.
Sounds like in 5 years or so that'll ease up and you all will have loads of fruit trees nearby.
I'm glad that you were able to rest for a while. I also find cleaning therapeutic. But that kinda sucks that those creatures targeted your webcam wire, I hope that you'll be able to fix it. Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed your day. Keep safe always!
!PIZZA
There is never such thing as enough rest these days. The webcam wire is kind of my own fault, I should've stored things more properly. I checked Logitech's website, and they sell replacement repair wires, so I'll just have to wait until the next time I visit the capital. Really sucks though because I was trying to start teaching Khmer online again, guess that'll have to wait.

At first glance I thought that gecko was just the run of the mill tiny ones that hang out and eat mosquitos but upon looking closer I can see some spikes on it that is very different from your run of the mill wall sticker. Until they get to big or start to mess with my stuff, I just leave them alone. I would imagine that you do the same.
You've got the same geckos over there as we do, mostly the tiny mosquito eaters, and I'm sure you've encountered the tokay geckos, the giant ones with orange spots on their backs. Usually these are the only two varieties I see, but our microclimate is host to some strange species. This one was really clumsy and awkward on the wall, almost falling alot, and when it got close to the window, it just jumped through the bars from a distance. I think his little experiment with becoming a house gecko didn't go as planned, ditched our concrete box for a return to the forest. If it returns, I'll try to get some better photos.
that's funny. It almost makes me feel bad for him but it is a good find regardless. The tokays I could do without, not because they are ever going to hurt you but because they are big and scary. Their doo doos are also a bit larger than the tiny harmless geckos that I just leave alone because they help keep the insect numbers down. I will occasionally see what I think is a skink on the ground when walking around, but very rarely. I do live in a very populated city though so I am sure they are more prevalent if you go out to the jungle like where you live.
House husband extraordinaire. Another title to wear. We've encountered a similar gecko in Thailand. It was quite aggressive and was actually hissing at us. It took a broom and plastic bin to re-home him.
Sounds like a tokay gecko, those things are brave, and their bite hurts because they have a mouth full of burrs kind of like a fish. They're aggressive and will generally not allow another Tokay to take up residence if they have already occupied your house. In Cambodia it's considered good luck if your home has one. I don't mind them at all, they are beautiful to watch on the walls, but sometimes so loud at night they won't let you sleep.
It wasn't as pretty as that one and it had spines down its back and tail. Quite happy to not encounter one in a bathroom again.
You can finally turn the house into a man cave. Ha ha. But seriously it is good to be alone at times.
A temporary mancave, or more appropriate would be a "man desk." The wife and kids just returned, and my batteries feel recharged, time to start waking up early and doing the school routine again.
The adult version is to cut a bunch of chilies, get sidetracked with a new podcast episode, then touch your eyes ๐๐ฅ!!
I was thinking that it would be like the presidents of the United States of America video for "peaches" but that's even better!
That gecko is scary. ahhahaha we also have some in our house. In the Philippines, they said if your house have a gecko it means it is sturdy. ahhahaha
Here in Cambodia if you have the big Tokay gecko, your home is considered to have good luck. So far no tokay geckos, only the common house geckos and this strange crocodile looking one. He never came back, just one daytime visit and he returned to nature.
Well...
I love noodle at certain times, delicious and practical. We in Indonesia usually eat it with rice, and it is very delicious.
Try it sometimes...๐
Haha, my wife and kids love to eat noodles with rice too, but for me it's a bit strange to add carbs to carbs.
Yeah, but it delicious. ๐๐
Your computer table looks much more presentable than mine. Glad you get the house nicely cleaned up. The wooden flooring, was it real wood? Or vinyl?
I cleaned my desk just for this post honestly, it's usually a hot mess full of random items that shouldn't be on the desk. The wood floor is an illusion, just ceramic square tiles that have a woodgrain pattern, but good to know it can pass for a wood floor in photos.
Please don't clean out the Gekko's though!
I love Gekkos, we have them over here up in far north QLD and I love them so much, they are so adorable!
Never, geckos are welcome here, but I do get tired of the poop. Our ceiling is open and the geckos really love the rafters, so that means they aren't just on the walls here, a tiny wet poop can fall on you anywhere at anytime. I get hit with a tiny turd from above about twice a day, but if you carefully pinch the gecko turd, you can pluck it with smooshing it and toss it out the window ๐.
YEah well even flies poo and somehow upside down on the ceiling too and there is nothing cute about them, so I'll take the gekkos and the poop any day. PLus you haven't met my Parrot yet..
I've been meaning to introduce her to the community- properly..soon I will soon!
