The Show Must Go On π¬ Torrential Downpours Hamper Construction β
It has been raining nonstop for days here in Steung Kach, not exactly the best conditions for woodworking or concrete pouring.
At Least The Basin Is Full π°
Β Β Β In the above photo you can see a hose dangling above the water basin in the outside bathroom. This hose is connected to the gutter of the tiny roof, but with the amount of rain we get here, it actually fills up quite quickly.
Β Β Β Pumping water from the river is difficult because the water tank above the cabin is too high for the pump's capacity, so either way all water must reach the bathroom basin before going elsewhere.
Repurposing The Highway Shack πͺ
Β Β Β As I mentioned (I think) in a previous post, the 2-man construction team here is my wife's uncle-in-law and her brother, and these guys are working when the weather allows. I decided to offer up the walls of the highway shack as a cost-cutting measure, so they've been sorting the planks by quality.
πͺ΅ Operation Veranda π
Β Β Β Perhaps a hammock hut by the river can be constructed with the scraps not used to finish up the cabin. Work has begun on creating a stepdown veranda on the river's side of the house. I am having the roof extended to cover the veranda, and we all like the idea of an outdoor kitchen here too.
Β Β Β The view is the best part, and I can't believe the previous never thought to take advantage of this. You can see the steep drop to the river. If we have enough HBD, I'd like to create a staircase going down a mini hammock hut at the river's edge.
Β Β Β The main thing is we need the rain to stop and I need the price of HIVE to go up, otherwise this will be a solely HBD-funded construction project. My wife and I's daily HIVE earnings match the daily cost of keeping these guys around, so we've kind of worked out to give them all the HBD we earn while they're here, plus give them a stipend so the fam-struction crew don't spend any of their earnings until they leave Steung Kach.

It is awesome that you're able to re-use as many materials as possible. Anything to cut down costs is always a good thing. Steps down to the river would really be neat! That must be a nice view to wake up to in the morning.
The morning view was 80% of why we bought the land here, still unbelievable. I can't wait to see this cabin renovation idea manifested.
Reconstructing house needs high cost. I had the experience. However, when everything has done, you can enjoy more comfortable place. That is the time you can start the next plan.
Very true. Luckily so far we are able to pay for everything with HBD and PancakeSwap, and Hive-Engine tokens. I'd like to keep my HIVE stake growing, but if necessary I will do a powerdown to complete construction.
hi my friend @justinparke
I'm commenting this time it's a little scary for you, I'm just reminding you, your kitchen is too close to the river cliff, are you not afraid of landslide prone ..???
because it's really vulnerable, we don't want things like that to happen, but we have to be wary of landslides,
remember, my friend, safety is the most important, sorry in advance, if my comment is a little tense,,
the atmosphere in your kitchen to enjoy the river view is indeed very pleasing to the eye, especially in the morning, when you enjoy a warm cup of coffee and accompanied by your beloved wife... it is a pleasure in the morning that is not
The house has a strong foundation built in the original soil, so I know it is strong. The supports for the veranda are much too strong for the weight of the porch and possible guests on it, so I am confident it will hold. We will have to constantly monitor the condition of the wood though, it is always moist here because of the river.
Interesting natural conditions with rocky riverbanks and clear water, I think you don't need to make a swimming pool, there is already a natural swimming pool.
You're right, the natural swimming pool is best, a perfect place for the girls to learn how to swim and have fun.
I don't think the price of Hive will go up. It might be best to convert as much Hive to HBD and store it in savings. That way your risk reduces if Hive falls further, and the 20% interest should help too.
I am not too optimistic either about the price of HIVE, but I do like the HBD savings APR at the moment, shame we are constantly withdrawing all HBD now to fund the construction project. Hopefully when we begin living on fiat from renters, I'll be able to start building my HBD savings back up again.
Hope the weather improves. Will send you some sunshine from Portugal, it's extremely sunny out here, these days.
P.S. I am sure you have, but just in case you haven't, have you considered moving more of your funds to HBD savings for a 20% apr?
That APR is incredible, and I began storing up my HBD when I saw this change. Unfortunately we've taken it all out and are constantly withdrawing HBD to fund construction. I still hope to see HIVE $1.50+ before I'd consider powering down and withdrawing any HIVE.
I thought you lived near the river, not right next to it. That's really awesome. I would love to have a place close to a body of water like that.
The borders of our property are the highway in front, the river in back, the neighbor, and an old access road. The land was definitely pricier than many much bigger plots, but the Thai border crossing that is now only a trail in the forest, will become an international crossing to Trat in September of this year.
Also, we are in Pursat province, an up and coming place now the 3rd most visited province in Cambodia. I think the more scenic nature-filled path into Cambodia will lure tourists in southern Thailand to access Cambodia via this route. The crossing further south from us goes into Sihanoukville, Koh Kong, a place now notorious for being ruined by Chinese casinos, mafia, and violence. We're banking Airbnb is going to be a good friend of ours, especially for mountain climbers, as we are only 600 meters from the trailhead too.
I can see that you are making good progress. Slowly but surely everything will be in place. I loved your attitude. You did not let the rain stop you but it is an opportunity to collect rain water.
As much as it rains here, we could probably live on only collected rainwater. I will be most excited to see some grass growing so that the mud isn't always sticking to our shoes.
The view outside the balcony with river view best with coffee or charcoal grilled sir. Please keep it too
I am definitely thinking an outdoor kitchen and entertaining area on the extended porch will be a popular feature. We are also considering making the handrail a long bench for sitting.
Yes sir, extended bench with some ambient lighting and a windmill, so peaceful and relax.
Monkey B's smile is priceless.. She is a great cheerleader. Great to see the update of the whole project and how water gets filled up. Is there any water connection from pipes? Just asking or it is solely on rain water? Hive price is on rocket boosters... and preparing to launch.. hopefully soon. It's quite amazing to see Hive being able to fund projects and daily expenses.. Thank you for sharing this. It is inspiration.. Looking forward to your update. =)
We have no well here, but the river is always flowing in case the rain stops. Sometimes I do have to pump from the river to the bathroom, and them from the bathroom to the water tank. I think it is proably at least 30-40 meters high, so we will need to buy a strong pump eventually, and perhaps set up PVC pipes to bring water up from the river. This would be a more troublefree longterm solution.
Added to your kitchen, I have this vision in mind, to make a suspension bridge across the stream, and build a small platform across. I'm gotta host a small unplugged concert there in the evening π€£
I love it, let's make it happen. Are you thinking jazz, heavy metal, K-Pop?
Well, acoustic rock
