πŸ›– Sad & Dangerous Hut Disassembly Begins πŸ”ͺ & Khmer Sushi Chefery 🍱

disa.png

The hammock hut is precariously perched river's edge, and I've begun the dangerous work of disassembling with a goal of not having it crush me in the process.

First, Some Sushi Chefery πŸ‘©β€πŸ³

Β  Β  Β When I returned home from picking the @kidsisters up at school, I found a sushi chef hard at work in the kitchen. I'm not a big fan of Japanese food because my Indian taste buds can't handle such simply spiced food, but sushi is an exception to the rule, I guess because wasabi factors into the equation.

Β  Β  Β My wife will surely be sharing this sushi-venture on her blog, but I like behind-the-scenes shots, so expect to see the photo Srey-Yuu is taking in a future @sreypov post. After uploading this pic, I realized Monkey-B in the background, eagerly awaiting her vegan sushi lunch even though she knows she is supposed to change out of school clothes as soon as she enters the home.

A Tear For The Hammock Hut 😒

wood.png

Β  Β  Β Disassembling the hammock hut has been a slow process, especially because I am the only in our house capable of lifting heavy things. Not only am I often carefully balanced in sketchy positions to remove nails, hauling the wood up the cliff is dangerous too, and one false move in bald crocs would send me sliding down the cliff and into the river, but not before being stabbed by lots of bamboo on the way.

hut.png

Β  Β  Β I started by removing all pieces of wood that weren't structural, because at least if it collapses on me, it'll be a little less heavy load. The roof has proved the hardest part because I have no ladder and the hut can't support my weight in it's current state of affairs.

hutty.png

Β  Β  Β I am unable to lift or relocate any of the legs myself, they're simply too heavy, so I made the choice remove the roof without care for carefully removing the nails first. It's a shame because the roof was new-ish, but these panels will not be able to provide rain-free protection anymore, so I'll have to think of another use like fencing or walls for these panels, perhaps toppers for a compost bin project πŸ€”.

They seem serious about making sushi. Even though I'm not a big sushi fan But wait to follow @sreypov's sushi. Have a good day. Thank you.

Pov's sushi is better than the real thing in my opinion. We use dried soy chunks from Thailand, very tasty.

I personally never eat Japanese food, I thought one day I'll try it and maybe sushi is the right choice isn't it...

Hahaha..monkey-B is waiting faithfully for his mother's cooking to finish, but it seems like it will take a long time because Sreypov and Srey-yu are busy with their own photo styles or poses to make it look good if he uploads the post later πŸ˜…

Hopefully the cottage that you dismantled can quickly be rebuilt as before, and have a nice day my friend πŸ™

Indonesian food has some very bold flavors, so you might find Japanese food a bit bland. I love the behind-the-scenes shots, taking photos of the photographer. Right now the rains have picked up again and the ground is too soft to continue dismantling.

That's cool to see behind-the-scenes shots of Srey-Yuu documenting the making of the sushi! 😁 Yum!

We so need to find you a pair of crocs that aren't bald ~or~ a decent pair of hiking/work boots ~or~ at least a pair of strap-on cleats. πŸ˜•

Pov is a pretty good sushi chef I must say, and Srey-Yuu a good photographer. I've got a pair of rubber boots that have some aggressive treads, but they are a bit clunky when I need to be nimble.

I suppose that the hut was built too near to the river in the first place. It's such a shame that you have to dismantle it but safety always come first.

Lesson learned though, I've made marks where the high water reached during the big flood, and that will serve as a minimum height for any new hut construction. I am thinking the new hut should have a ladder to the river that can be quickly raised during flooding to prevent possible damage.

Since you are new to the area, you can also consult your neighbors on the flood levels.

Apparently this is the worst flood in living memory, but there have only been residents here less than 10 years because it was previously a wild area of the national park. None of the people here were properly prepared for it.

a little sad news for the story of the hut which was in disarray by the big water yesterday that you told me some time ago, I've heard a lot of stories from you about the hut, so many stories below that the hut has fallen apart,,

even though the hut is a place where you relax for a moment to release a little thirst or a place where you find a new imagination in the hut, but what can you do when the time has come to be dismantled,, why dismantle it .... because he has collapsed ... and fallen apart,,

it's a man's job to do all the work or dismantle the hut. strong and perfect physique..

hopefully the hut that you have dismantled will quickly move, it will definitely be fun to listen to or to wait for the episode about the new hut that you will soon build in a new place ..

to make a hut of course requires a process and skill to build it, moreover the hut has a little here for us to sit so comfortable,, as well as the scenery around the hut it should at least please our eyes when we look here and there.

The hut disassembly is going slow because I am doing it alone and the ground gets too soft when it rains. Some of the posts are too heavy for me to shift by myself, so I'll have to wait until I get some help or use some ropes to assist me.

I'd really like to build something like this in place of the old hut, very popular in my country now. It would be really cool to open the side of the house and jump out for a swim.

The safest way to get the roof might be to force the whole thing to collapse towards shore using a rope?

I have actually considered this, and all I'd have to do is remove the roof panels first before giving it a try. If the water levels are low enough when I do it, none of the wood would be at risk of floating away.
