πŸ₯– Garlic Bread, Crispy Seaweed πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³ & Other Ways To Win Your Family Over With Culinary Corruption πŸ₯¬

Garlic bread makes practically any meal better, and when my family sees me slicing bread and garlic, the excitement begins to build.

Garlic, Olive Oil, Salt, Bread πŸ₯– Done

Β  Β  Β If you don't like garlic bread there is a good chance that you might be a psychopath. I have no idea what culture invented this, but I believe all countries should have some form of this delicious side. I often serve it with Indian style bean dishes instead of chapatis or rotis, and on this day I paired it with rajma chawal, one of Monkey-B's favorite dishes.

Β  Β  Β If you don't like garlic bread there is a good chance that you might be a psychopatUnfortunately I don't haven an oven , but it works well enough to puree the olive oil and garlic, then spread it on the bread, allow it to soak in, then toast upside down on a cast iron skillet.

Crispy Seaweed Cabbage Time πŸ₯¬

Β  Β  Β A lot of Asian restaurants sometimes serve "crispy seaweed" as an appetizer or snack, but most people don't realize it's never actually seaweed, but simply any leafy green thinly sliced and deep-fried. Darker green vegetables look more like seaweed than cabbage, does, but with a little bit of toasted sesame seeds and salt, it's a tasty snack that doesn't need to pose as seaweed.

Β  Β  Β When the girls were begging for a snack not long after lunch, I told them I'd make "crispy seaweed," and they didn't remember what it was. I guess it's been far too long since I deep-fried some greens, so I got to work and reminded them how awesome this super fast snack is.

Β  Β  Β Everybody got their chance to have some time alone with the bowl, and when it came time for Srey-Yuu's photo, she stared at a rock in the yard instead of the camera, perhaps the deliciousness had her confused. Well, one thing is certain, they were impressed by how something so simple can be so delicious.

Β  Β  Β On this day family morale was increased through a series of garlic bread and crispy seaweed cabbage actions, and because I am full-on corrupt I was able to use these powers to negotiate a deal with Monkey-B for her to walk on my back for 15 minutes,

Β  Β  Β Based on the way everyone crowded around the bowl, I knew I'd struck gold. The above pic humorously captures all the different personalities of the three ladies in my life, with Monkey-B easily the cheekiest family member.

Crispy Snacks Are Gone & So Is Monkey-B πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

When the delicious snacks were gone, the ladies scattered like dust in the wind, and I was left with an empty bowl and nobody to comfort me, so I shed a tear and began thinking of how to win them back with my next culinary corruption move 🀣.

What I wouldn't give to prove that I am not a psychopath by shoving some of that heavenly looking bread in my mouth!!!!! I love when we get to see your food. Never tried crispy seaweed. I'm salivating.

I can't wait until we sort out our indoor lighting situation, things will become much more photogenic, but until then I don't have much inspiration for recipe posts unless I do them early in the morning when I can do most of the food prep shots outdoors.

Garlic bread is delicious.
I learned to eat that in Korea, but from Spanish colleagues. They used to prepare garlic bread with tomato, very easy to prepare and delicious. They have this costume from Catalunya, Spain. Also I don't have idea where this marriage of garlic and bread begins, but it's delicious.

Garlic bread with tomato is nice, and that reminds me of an Italian snack called bruschetta, sort of like garlic bread with a tomato salad on top of it. There is a lot of good Spanish dishes, hope you were able to try many of their dishes while in Korea.

I love garlic bread but I am still kind of a psycho. maybe I need a lot more of it, no?

Don't the cabbage place the il when dep fried? how did you season it?

Well that makes two psychos of us then, perhaps the garlic bread can bring sanity one day πŸ˜‰.

The cabbage is very simple, just fry it in oil in small batches until crispy but not burned. When you remove the cabbage from the oil and it is still hot, that is the time to sprinkle with salt, toasted sesame seeds and crushed red pepper if you want it spicy. The seasoning will stick to the cabbage when it is still hot, but if you're not fast enough the cabbage will cool down and the seasoning will just fall to the bottom of the bowl.

It's such a nice treat, and even though we eat mostly rice, sometimes we will replace the rice with garlic bread for a special dinner.

Garlic bread is a staple is this household, too, and always elicits a very positive reaction as well. Now, I do have a problem getting my boys to eat any form of vegetable. Maybe I ought to try deep frying some greens as well. Interesting! I've never heard of that before.

Well since you're not in SE Asia, I highly recommend using kale if you deep fry greens. Consistency is key, and because cabbage is veiny, some of it comes out crispy and other parts undercooked. Kale is perfectly flat, so cut out the stem and it makes some super fast crunchies, literally in seconds when deep-fried.

Hmmmm....perhaps deep-fried greens on garlic bread for the ultimate crunch πŸ˜‰.

That's an awesome idea. I even grow my own kale! That garlic bread topping does sound nummy. Mmmm!

...and documenting this for Hive also gives these memories a life and storage beyond my hard drive just in case we should ever lose our digital photos.

True, and your little ladies grow so fastπŸ‘πŸ‘ it's amazing you write about them all the time, and the pictures had their story too

What a beautiful family you have. Now that I compare your family with mine, we're the total extreme of our category. My kid will open the sub, picked out the last piece of lettuce before they finally eat that sandwich. I wish my kids eat half the Vege your family eats. I rather we become half cow than full harimau πŸ…

Speaking of fried vege, there's this dish I haven't eat for a long time. I thought I mentioned the brother of my ex is a vegetarian chef. May be you can try this, as far as I know this is a Malaysian recipe.

The final touch of meatfloss, can be replaced by vegan version.

You won't regret this.

Definitely going to watch these both. I haven't ever attempted anything like a vegan meat floss before. The internet is always slow here at night, so I'll have to bookmark these videos for the morning.

I regret I never saw a vegan murtabak while I was in Malaysia. I am sure they exist, but probably at hipster locations that I wasn't aware of. I was a picky eater when I was young just like your boy, not sure when things changed, but I think it was the first time I tried Thai food and quickly realized that Americanized Chinese food is a terrible introduction to Asian cuisine.
