My questionably communist kitty ChairWoman lives a proletariat feline life void of cat food, but she is adept at claiming the souls of insects, reptiles and rodents.
3:00am 💓 Psychopath
I am usually awake until 3:00am doing Hive-related stuff, and most nights I try and take the ChairWoman on hunting expeditions. Katydids and giant grasshoppers are the prey of choice for my catfood-less kitty. As a vegan who refuses to buy cat food, the tradeoff/deal I made with ChairWoman Meow is that I will teach her how and where to hunt for locally sourced live protein.
On nights where she doesn't land any kills she'll usually run around our house like a psychopath biting anything that moves, especially toes under blankets. My family doesn't fully understand her instincts, but the wee hours of the morning are her natural hunting times, and that accounts for this behavior. Usually she can feed herself at night while I work on the computer, and all I have to do is leave the kitchen light on.
All moths, lizards and other thumb-sized creatures drawn to the fake sun/moon will meet a quick end to their time on Spaceship Earth, but Meow claims souls with zero malice. Well, she does have a distaste for wings, often leaving them disrespectfully on the floor for her vegan cat dad to clean up. If wings or lizard bones are found on the kitchen floor by my wife in the morning, I am in big trouble. I do my best to keep Meow's secrets from my family, even her preference for her dirty dish water over her filtered water available inside the house.

She is so lovely. But I hope it does make you feel pains whenever she bits your legs, lol
She bites me when we play, and scratches too, but she's always gentle with me. With the ladies of the family she is not very gentle, I think because they don't take her hunting like I do 😜.
Well, that's possible cus most of the these pets love those that give them time and attention than those that do not have their time.

So I am guessing there is a lack of mice / rats there for her to feast upon. That has to be a rarity in South East Asia. here in Danang I'm pretty sure they outnumber the population at least 2:1.
I think there are plenty here, enough villagers throwing trash everywhere for it. However, because we are not in a city, there are so many escape routes and places to hide. The tall grass is almost as impenetrable as a wall, so when I cut grass Meow often watches and waits for any new openings. I once saw a doc stating that Cambodians sell rats to Vietnam for a higher price than they command in the local market. Apparently the Vietnamese don't like to eat urban rats, but prefer big fat countryside Cambodian rats.
haha, i have never seen anyone eating a rat but who knows what goes on in the countryside. I have only been there a couple of times. I'm envious at times that you get to live there.
