๐ Cleaning, Pickling, & Other Random Things I've Been Doing While The Ladies Are On Vacation ๐งน

My wife @sreypov and daughters the @kidsisters are still touring Cambodia with her ex-husband's family, and I am staying busy with lots of pickling and cleaning.
๐ง ๐ Pickled Surprises & Reusing โป๏ธ
Two of my favorite pickles are Indian-style lemon/lime and also the simple pickled onions commonly seen on the tabletop at various Indian restaurants. My wife particularly likes my lime pickle, so I made a huge jar of that because the previous one ran out too quickly. Eventually I will share the recipe, but each time I make it I forget to take pictures and document the process.

Plastic bags are a major environmental problem in Cambodia, and there is nowhere you can go without seeing these dotting the landscape. Even when we go shopping, we take reusable bags, but often times the seller just puts a plastic bag inside our reusable bag, defeating the purpose. When we mention we don't want plastic bags, sometimes the sellers become combative, so we just take them and go do avoid embarrassing confrontation.
No seller is interested in a plastic bag full of random plastic bags, but I've found if I flatten them and carefully fold the bags, most sellers are happy enough to not only take them from us and reuse them, but also give us a discount on whatever we're buying that day. It takes hours to fold and sort the bags, but it feels good knowing they're not going in the trash by my hands.
Yellow Fried Rice ๐

Since I've been working so much, I've had little time to post daily and also cook the foods I love most, so made a huge batch of fried rice to get me through a couple of days. I put things like cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, dried chilies, cumin, mustard seeds, turmeric, and chili powder in my rice, the last two ingredients give the rice a beautiful golden color.
Almost Forgot The Sunset ๐

The sunsets here are not easily viewed because the sun sets on the opposite side of the highway where we have no view because a huge slope blocks most of the visibility. However, that doesn't stop the sun from painting the landscape in yellow and pink hues, so I try and admire the mountains and river for at least a few minutes every evening around sunset time. This is a rushed post because I didn't publish anything yesterday, sorry for the lack of humor and rather bland content today.

The last sentence of reminding no humor is not required. Would have been a good piece, knowing you didn't go out drive around everywhere to as pretending tourist, or sleep in 24 hours without doing anything ๐คฃ ok don't need to assume, that's me when the family not around.
I wanted nothing more than to sleep for 24 hours straight, but I'm now conditioned to run on no sleep, and my body wakes me up at 5am even if I went to sleep at 2am, not good for my health I must admit. It was a welcome break though, and I got so many chores done that I could've never done with the family around.
Your lime pickle looks delicious, as does your fried rice. I'm eating so much rice these days now that we are in Indonesia but not as yummy as yours looks. A touch of India in it, by the sounds of the spices.
Yep, I tend to eat 95% South Asian flavors, but luckily my wife and kids enjoy these dishes. I like some Indonesian foods too, especially tempeh, but the flavors sometimes get a bit repetitive for me. Are you a fan of tempeh?
I've only had one tempeh dish that I enjoyed and it was amazing. It seemed to be coated in peanuts and had a slightly crunchy and sticky outside. Most delicious. Most of the time it's rice with chicken. Occasionally prawns/shrimp but I'm not keen on dealing with prawn shells when they're in a sticky sauce. It gets awfully messy haha. And yes, the food gets repetitive.
Understandable, well, you've got wheels, I mean sails, so when the food gets too boring you can sail to tastier locations.
It's always good to hear the river sound . I also living near the river , just hearing the sound of it always make happy
Also the humidity from the river cuts down the dust and particle pollution, another river bonus ๐.
This fried rice is good looking and i bet is good in taste too. Is never too late for sunset. How about star lights in the night life sir?
Thanks my friend. The sky is very clear at night here because there are no big cities nearby with light pollution. You can actually see the Milky Way on a night without cloud cover.
Yeah thats one thing good about staying outside. With less noise and light pollution makes it perfect for stay too. Nice to hear that sir. Is time for some night shot too sir ๐๐
I will try some night shots soon, but my phone is not suited for it, I'll have to pull out the camera and dust it off.
Is ok sir take your time when is convenient. ๐๐
A shame you can't see the sunset... Maybe one day you can build a watchtower :) ...

Thanks so much ๐
Sorry, I'm all out of tokens, except maybe !PIZZA
Yeah . thanks for !PIZZA
Well, on the flipside, the moon sunrises and moonrises are pretty good from our point of view. I have actually been thinking of building a water tank tower because our shifty homemade wooden tower is too low for good pressure and also the tower is not very well-made. It would seem a waste to build a little water tank tower and not have a little lookout nook on top ๐ค.
Definitely, everyone needs an awesome thinking spot ๐

I love turmeric rice. I sometimes put Turmeric on corn grits and oatmeal. so good as well.
You have grits in the Philippines? I grew up on that, it was like my rice porridge for breakfast, and in the USA only people from the southern states eat grits.
yup. we have corn grits here but it is not as popular as rice. but i prefer it actually
Cheers, I am grateful for the support.

the yellow rice looks tasty with full of herbs
It's my favorite style of fried rice, especially with a piece of cinnamon.
Turmeric makes the rice beautiful. Better than the unhealthy chicken oil which many here in the Philippines use for fried rice.
I use coconut oil mixed with sunflower oil for most of our cooking, a little turmeric and chili powder give the rice a nice color.
