Too Much Freedom; A Different Story
Hello everyone. I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the weather wherever you are. Welcome to my blog.
As human beings, we have rights. Our rights are entrenched in the constitution of the country we belong to. As long as we are not aliens and we are citizens of a particular country, then we have specific rights. As humans, we have the freedom to do certain things as long as they are "just and legal". Freedom of speech, freedom of free movement, and freedom to own property, to mention a few. I wouldn't say these are the things we "enjoy" as human beings, I'll rather say they are the things we "deserve". However, there are restrictions to these rights. Yes, it is entrenched in the constitution that citizens of a particular country (using Nigeria as a case study) have the freedom to do certain things, but these rights may be breached sometimes. In other words, there are limits to the freedom we enjoy.
Is there anything like too much freedom? To tell the truth, I never thought there was anything like "too much freedom" until I read the second edition of this week's contest. I know there's something like limited freedom- a situation where citizens are deprived of the rights they deserve. But too much freedom? Totally a different thing. I had to sit down and think deeply about what "too much freedom" really means. After a while, I was finally able to take down some points. Firstly, we live in a world where the majority of people are confined by boundaries. The world is not balanced; while are confined, others are not restricted. They are free birds. Also, too much freedom does not exist in the world we are in. Well, I'd say about 0.1 percent of the world's population enjoy too much freedom.
After thinking for a long time, I was finally able to denote the true meaning of "too much freedom". Picture this; a country without rules. The world was a place without rules. You are free to do anything. How long do you think people will survive? There are advantages and disadvantages to this, but most people would turn a blind eye to the advantages and focus on the negative aspect.
There is something like "too much freedom". If a person is extremely free, you forget the purpose of boundaries and then you outdo yourself. It can lead to a lot of mistakes and regrets, and then you will start confining yourself. When a person has too much freedom, it is otherwise known as living a reckless life. You see life as an opportunity to EXPLORE because you don't have confinement.
If there is too much freedom, people would stay doing reckless things. A 12-year-old can to a bar and drink his lungs out? Why, because he isn't restricted. Unlike today where one is not legally allowed to drink until you are 18 (in most countries). Similarly, countries can wage war on themselves because they are free to do it. Developed and more powerful countries wouldn't stop picking on underdeveloped countries.
I can just wake up one day and decide not to use my seat belt or to drive on the left side of the road (in my country, it is a rule that drivers should always drive on the right side. In a world where people have too much freedom, chaos will definitely prevail.
In my opinion, it is better to live in a world where there are boundaries than to live in a world where people are given too much freedom.
Thanks for reading.
Even with some restrictions, people are still doing the unthinkable, now imagine if we have a world with too much freedom...alot of nonsense will just be happening and people will be getting away with their evil plots because there will be no rule as well
That’s very true, Nkem. Even with restrictions people are still doing anyhow. I don’t even want to imagine what I’d look like if there aren’t restrictions.
Thanks for stopping by.
Too much freedom will only make the world a lawless place so it is okay to have restrictions with freedom to avoid abuse like we are already seeing in the world already.
Hello there, George. How’re you and your lovely wife?
I agree with you, George. It is better to live life with restrictions.
Well said, too much freedom will do more harm than good, as a lot of people will misuse the opportunity.
Despite the rules some are still getting away with their crimes, now imagine everyone is much more free, it won't be a good thing.
Let’s use the Boko Haram as an example. There are rules in this country, but these guys are doing illegal things. Now, imagine if they had freeedom to do anything…
Lols everywhere will scatter oo
I love the definition you gave too much freedom. A world without rules and regulations is doomed, we all ought to be free as living things but our freedom should not be something that we should take too extreme such that can harm us or others around us.
Our people say too much of everything is bad. We all have the right to eat but if you over eat you will cause yourself harm, everyone is free to drink whatever he/she wants to drink but if you choose alcohol you are on your own. This is why we have rules guiding us, else there would be a lot of misbehaviours . You made a perfect example earlier on, about a 12 year old person drinking, if there is no law. unfortunately, there are times that it will be our responsibilities to set those rules for ourselves. It is a free world yet if we don't know how to manage our freedom we may end up regretting
A world with too much freedom brings chaos in the end. People will outdo themselves and try reckless things because they aren't restricted which could lead to problems in the end. There is and shouldn't be anything like too much freedom.
