Goodbye Jove

Birds are one of the cutest animals on earth. The winged animal has helped humanity in various ways; they help pollinate plants, control pests, spread seeds, and some other things which help protect our ecosystem.

Growing up, the two animals I loved were birds and dogs. I loved watching birds. I never had a bird of my own, but one of my childhood friends had a parrot. It was so colorful and beautiful. I never imagined I’d have a bird of my own, not until I met Jove three days ago, it’s so sad he is gone.

How I met Jove

Jove and I met three days ago. Before then, it used to come to eat the feed I give my chickens. In my first post in this community, I showed you all an image of the cage where I rare my chickens. Jove and his friends used to come and eat with the chickens. But anytime I try to go close, they flew away. It is so sad they didn’t know I meant no harm.

Two days ago, Jove came to the cage, I was moving close, it tried to fly away but it was stuck in the net. Initially, I was scared to move close to it because I had never touched a bird, but after about a minute, I summoned courage and went there. The net had already tangled his legs and injured him. I went inside, wore my gloves, and cleaned him up.

I was so happy that I planned on keeping it for a few days and releasing it back into the wild after I’m sure it’s in a good condition. I had an extra cage, where I used to keep my chickens. I cleaned the cage and placed Jove inside. It looked so weak.

Quickly I went on the internet and browsed things about birds; how to take care of them, what they eat, what they like and what they don’t like. I learned that they love worms, so I went to my backyard and I brought some worms to feed Jove.

Should I keep him? What if I build a nest for him, would he love to stay? Would he help me on my farm if I train him? Should I let him go? His family might be missing him. These were my thoughts throughout the night.

The next morning, Jove was looking very active. I fed worms. I’m sure he enjoyed it. I brought it out of the cage and placed it on the ground, I tied a rope on his legs and tied it on the cage to prevent it from flying away. I went inside to do my house chores. After about two hours, I was done. When I came back to Jove, something terrible had happened; he died. I was shocked. Unfortunately, there was a very big bucket, filled with water close to his cage. He probably tried to escape and fell into it.

I know I didn't spend up to two days with Jove, but I miss him. My dreams of taking care of a bird have been shattered? If I left him instantly, would he have survived?

I wasn’t there to save Jove, but I did give it a befitting burial in a way I could. Goodbye love.

Omg sorry to hear that Jove had died. It's sad that you were not able to take care of the Jove but you have tried your best. And you have said Jove a nice goodbye.

Oh that's very sad, am sorry about the situation you find yourself, I know you might want to blame yourself about why you tried to keep it.

It's well.
