Hello everyone in the wonderful hive family. Hope you are all doing well. Once again, I’m thankful to the hive learners’ community for their amazing initiatives.

The hive learners’ community has again presented us with an amazing topic; All of us have different motivations for the things we do. That is what makes us different. What is your motivation to be successful?

Motivation refers to that thing that keeps you going, that thing that fuels you and gives you a better and healthier life.

What motivates you to be successful? What is your strength? What is that thing that keeps you going? These are good questions we should ask ourselves once in a while. When you know what motivates you, then you begin to notice that you find yourself putting more effort every day to achieve your goals. It is very important to know what motivates you and to keep to it and work harder. When we know what motivates us, then it becomes easier to set our goals and strive for achievements.

Everyone has different things that motivate them. What motivates your twin brother or best friend might not even move you. We are all different and so is what motivates us.

What motivates me to become successful?

When I saw this topic, I had to sit down, relax and think deeply. Growing up, I’ve always been determined to be successful; achieve my goals and dreams, I’ve always had the mindset to be successful since I was a kid, and there are some vital things that motivate me to stick to that mindset.

My mom

Definitely! Hundred percent! My mom is my greatest motivation in life. She is the best mom in the world. A mother and a mom. Personally, there is a difference between a mother and a mom. A mother just gives birth and neglects the child, my mom isn’t like that. She is a MOM and the greatest woman I’ve ever met. I’m so glad I came to this world through her.

Growing up, my mom was always there for me and my 3 siblings. She made sure we loved each other and showered us with unimaginable love, care, and support.

My mom works as a nurse in a government hospital, she had a really busy schedule, but that didn’t hinder her from taking care of her children. She’d drive us to school in the morning before she goes to work, then after school closes, she’d already stay at the school gate to pick us up. She did this for my siblings throughout their days in school. She did the same for me too until I got to Grade 10.

My mom made sure she supported me in every part of my life, right from childhood she has always been my guardian angel. She taught me how to love and care for the needy. My mom has always been a woman with a clean spirit who is ready to give her last penny to the needy. She’d sit my siblings and me down and tell us why we should do good and not expect in return.

My mom is selfless. She is the type of mom that’d take a bullet for her kids. I remember the day my sister called my mom and told her she was not feeling fine and it was really serious. My mum dressed up within two minutes and rushed off, she got there late at night and couldn’t return. There was no place she could sleep, she had to sleep on a chair the whole night!

Thinking of all these good things, wouldn’t it be a good idea to give back? The thought of giving back to my mom for all that she has done and is still doing motivates me to become successful. I can boldly say, there’s nothing more rewarding than giving back to someone who has been there for you your whole life.

My dad

Ignoring what my dad has done for me would be the cruelest thing ever. There’s this funny thing my dad would always say anytime he buys gifts for me and my siblings. “You'll take care of me when you grow up” he’d say with a big smile on his face. Even though he can be harsh sometimes, he has a very unique way of showing that he loves us. My dad’s expectation to take care of him (provide him with the most comfortable lifestyle ever) motivates me to become successful.

My siblings

My siblings and I have done so much together. We were born and brought up by the same parents in the same home. We attended the same school. They were always there to take care of me. I remember any time I had problems with school work they were always there to help me out. They motivate me to become a successful person in the future.

Desire to own a happy home in the future

I have heard stories of parents who are unable to cater for their children financially and are then tagged “irresponsible”. I am a male and one day, I’ll be a father, a wife, and the man of the house. It is my duty to make sure my family lacks nothing and to do this, I must be successful in life.

There are a lot of kids out there begging for money on the road because they don’t have money to eat, some of them get sent out of school because their parents could not afford their school fees. I’m sure a lot of us have heard stories of underaged kids who get involved in a robbery, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other vices, so they could sustain a living. Most of them wouldn’t get involved in bad things if they were well brought home in a good and financially stable home.

The thought of giving my future kids and wife a comfortable lifestyle motivates me to become successful; the best version of myself. I would not want my kids or wife to suffer because of what I failed to do.

Taunts from relatives

I know you might find this funny or insignificant, but trust me when I say things like these matter in most African homes. Here in Nigeria, if you’re not successful in life, relatives see you as being useless. They won’t even ask for your opinion about anything that concerns the family.

Jack Ma

I’m sure a lot of us know Jack Ma and his story. Well, if you don’t, I’ll tell you. Jack Ma is a Chinese business guru, he is the founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group. As of 2022, Jack Ma’s Net Worth is 25.2 billion. He’s super-rich.

This man is a successful man today because he didn’t give up. He made sure he achieved his goal. He was born into a poor family, he struggled to go to school, and even when he went, he failed primary school test twice, and failed middle school thrice. Do you know what happened when he wrote a college entrance exam? He failed it. He wrote it again and still failed. He applied to Harvard 10 times and got rejected every time. Most people would have given up, but he didn’t. He applied for more than 30 jobs and got rejected. Jack Ma once told a story about when KFC came to his country. He and 23 other people applied for the job and guess what? Only he got rejected.
Today, Jack Ma is one of the richest Chinese billionaires because he never gave up.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is a well-known Portuguese footballer. The 37 years old footballer was born to a very poor family; they couldn’t afford 3 square meals. But he didn’t let that weigh him down, he struggled and finally became a footballer. He didn’t stop when he became a footballer, he struggled harder and made sure he is the best footballer in the world. Today, Ronaldo is one of the best footballers in history.
At 37 years, most players would have retired, but Ronaldo is still playing in the Premier League because he motivates himself to keep training every day. Even when it seems like all odds are against him, when his own fans boo him, he doesn’t give up. Instead, he struggles harder. One of my favorite Cristiano Ronaldo quotes is; “I strive to better myself and I always want to win”.
