Experiments in outpainting using DALLE
I made a post previously about being in the DALLE beta test, recently they went to a paid system where you have to buy credits, I applied to their artist support program and was granted X amount of credits/week for 10 weeks. So now I have LOADS of credits to get through because if I don't use them they will be taken away!
I recently discovered their editing panel, here you can take an image you generated and OUTPAINT, which basically means expand it and generate more around it. This happens in squares, so you overlap the generation square on your art then it will generate 4 new options for you. It's pretty fun because it's kind of like a choose your own adventure with art :p
This was the starting image I used, the prompt was something about an alien in a graveyard:
I made one error when starting which was not overlapping my generation square which gave me a hard line in the middle. You can see approx. the midway point here and where I learned my lesson about that:
here is the final image, it was 32 mb and 5120 × 3584 so I had to compress it to be able to upload here:
Overall I really enjoy this feature, imagine it like generating a canvas square by square, I would like to start from the same image again and see where I can take based on my overlap. It will be interesting to see how different I can make it!
To follow on twitter, personal account, Alien Community account <3
dall e only works with credits now?
same with jax, huh?
cool alien (:
Yeah I believe so, at least thats what they announced, not sure about jax, there are too many now to keep track of lol!
We have been in the beta as well and it has absolutely STUNNING stuff which we will be using as recordcovers. Better said, it creates awesome stuff! Super siked but super scary as well
Nice, yeah it is pretty amazing and scary too :D I am going to have to reread the commercial policy, I know they allow commercial use now but do you have to cite it? I'm thinking on spotify for example there isn't even a way to cite album art or anything... 🤔
Well this...
I think since it is artificially made there is no one to cite, it is literally no ones work. But same as you...im not sure!

This would look great as the artwork for a music festival flyer ...really Nice ✌️
Yeah psychedelic vibes 😎
Nice
Very cool shit! I've got it yesterday after a few days of waiting list, it's pretty rad too!
Ooh nice have fun!
Dear @juliakponsford, we need your help!
The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.
May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Your support would be really appreciated.
Thank you!
Your drawing looks very cool, it looks like an alien party, I love the colors. I hope to see more of your work with the program, and the image overlay.
That's pretty cool Julia! How does this work? I didn't quite understand. Does it generate one image after the other? I really like the result.
I'm enjoying AI art generation pretty much, specially now that I have been in a long hiatus of creation. Going through some tough mentally challenging times, but trying. A long existential crisis.
Basically after generating an image you can click an edit button, and erase parts to regenerate or add choose an area to add onto the image, it generates 4 possibilities and you click the one you like! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well <3
wow that sounds great! How much does it cost?
Thanks Julia 😘 I'm starting to feel better. Been putting in the necessary work 😉🙃
Looks badass!
😎
Incredibly beautiful, like an LSD-induced dreamscape. The idea of an "Alien in a Graveyard" not only sounds like a cool band name but also makes for an interesting story that could involve sci-fi elements and the theme of loss and what's left behind by people. Interesting how the art is generated in blocks and that the world now has choose-your-own adventure computer art.
Ok I got some:
A caterpillar with legs that are vacuum cleaner attachments
Moon landing film set
Person on the street selling bootleg t shirts
The beginning of time
Captain planet body builder
Caterpillar 🤔
Moon landing set
The beginning of time
Hmmm indeed?
Wow, thank you...I must say they don't look as...hi fi as last time! Appreciate the work-ive been messing with starry ai lately, have been getting some good ones and the engine is way of better quality now
It definitely helps to add modifiers like high definition photo, 3d render etc, it will change the output drastically. There are some things I can't make work at all, tried the other day to get a deer with a human face and it just kept giving me deer
Well...just by entering prompts, we are probably helping instruct it, right!? Sometimes the intentionally vague stuff produces interesting responses I've found
... The caterpillar was really the best one, so sad when it breaks the machine.
I guess I need something more like:
Hip Hop frog DJs while turtles breakdance in the style of Lisa frank
Wow, fantastic. I haven't had a chance to try Dall-E yet, but I have used Midjourney and Starryai and highly recommend them. I hope you continue posting your progress here with this Dall-E. yeah!!
Thanks it's pretty addictive, I have another dalle post coming soon!
