Hello Hive community!
In this post, I want to share my experience on the trip I took with my family to Guatavita Lagoon. This lagoon is located on the Guatavita-Sesquilé route in the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. This region is where the legend of El Dorado and the legend of Guatavita originate.
On the day of the trip, we left early and first arrived in the town of Guatavita, which is a very beautiful colonial town. We walked around and found a place to have coffee since it was quite cold.

Then we headed to the entrance of the trail, where we had to pay around 18,000 Colombian pesos ($ 4). The price varies depending on whether you are a foreigner or a resident. After entering the trail, we encountered some guides who, throughout the hike, explained the diversity of nature in the area and shared various very interesting things.

At the beginning of the hike, they showed us one of the houses that the Muisca people built for dwelling, called "bohíos." I found the structure very beautiful. They also explained the etymology of some words used in the region, such as "guache," which currently means a rude person in my country, but for the Muisca people, it referred to a brave person, like a warrior.

The guides also briefly told us the legend of Guatavita. They explained that during the conquest period, there was a Muisca tribe where the chief was married to a very beautiful princess, and they had a daughter. The chief was unfaithful to her with other women in the village. Devastated, she met a man whom she fell in love with. The chief found out and fed the heart of that man to his wife, who, in desperation, submerged herself with her daughter in the lagoon

After walking along the trail for a long time, enjoying the abundant nature, we began to see a portion of the lagoon. We continued walking to reach the highest viewpoint to see it in its entirety. Along the trail, it started to rain gently, luckily, we had umbrellas.

Listening to all those ancient stories, the landscape seemed wonderful and filled with magic to me. Personally, I am very interested in pre-Columbian history. I find it fascinating that we used to worship nature as gods, offering various gifts and, most importantly, taking care of it. It seems that this connection has been lost over time, and we should take action to revive that culture.
