Side Trip to Bamboo Forest, Medellin
As I walked through the Bamboo Forest in Medellin, Cebu, my childhood memories flooded me. My father had grown up in Medellin before moving to the city for high school, and we used to visit his family every summer. Back then, the area was known for its sugar cane plantations, and I remember running through the fields with my cousins, feeling like we were exploring our little corner of the world.
The Bamboo Forest has become one of the newest tourist destinations in Medellin. It offers visitors a chance to experience picturesque scenery like in Korean dramas. As I wandered through the forest, I couldn't help but feel like I had stepped onto the set of a romantic drama, with the bamboo trees swaying in the breeze and the sunlight filtering through the leaves.
As I stepped into the Bamboo Forest in Medellin, Cebu, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The towering bamboo trees stretched endlessly into the sky, their branches swaying gently in the breeze. I remember my childhood days when my father took me to this spot where the area was still known for its sugar cane plantations. But now, the Bamboo Forest has become one of the newest tourist destinations in Medellin, and it's not hard to see why.
As I wandered deeper into the forest, I felt like I had entered a different world. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a soft, green glow over everything around me. The sound of the bamboo rustling in the breeze was like music to my ears, and I found myself pausing every few steps just to take it all in.
But it wasn't just the scenery that had drawn me here. As I had read before the trip, the Bamboo Forest had a fascinating story behind it, and I was eager to learn more. The forest was planted by a group of students in 2013 as part of a reforestation project in the area. As I walked further, I came across a small clearing where I saw a group gathered around a local guide. I listened intently as he told us the story behind the Bamboo Forest.
The area had once been home to vast sugar cane plantations, primary industry, and income for the people of Medellin. I know these facts as I spent my childhood in the place. However, as the years went by, the soil had become depleted, and the plantations slowly died off.
To revitalize the land, a group of students from a local university came up with the idea of planting bamboo. Not only was bamboo a fast-growing and resilient plant, but it was also a sustainable source of material for a variety of industries. The students had started by planting just a few dozen bamboo saplings, but the forest had grown to encompass over 40 hectares of land over the years. Today, it serves as a testament to the power of reforestation and has become one of Medellin's most popular tourist destinations.
As I looked around at the people gathered around me, there were families with young children, couples on romantic getaways, and solo travelers like myself, all united in their appreciation for the beauty of the forest.
As I continued my journey through the forest, I felt a sense of wonder and gratitude for the chance to experience such a special place. The bamboo trees seemed to go on forever, stretching upwards towards the sky like a living testament to the resilience and ingenuity of the people of Medellin.
As the sun began to set, I returned to the forest entrance, feeling a sense of peace and contentment wash over me. I had come to the Bamboo Forest in search of a new adventure, but I had found something even more precious: a connection to the land and the people who had worked so hard to bring it back to life.
Overall, my trip to the Bamboo Forest was a truly unforgettable experience. It reminded me of nature's beauty, the power of community, and the importance of preserving the world around us. If you ever find yourself in this part of the Philippines, I highly recommend journeying to this magical place – an experience you won't soon forget.
As my time in Medellin came to a close, I couldn't help but reflect on the unexpected side trip that had led me to the Bamboo Forest. What had started as a simple desire to explore the place before going to our clan reunion was a beautiful experience. Although my visit had been unplanned, it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. I had marveled at the beauty of the bamboo trees, breathed in the fresh mountain air, and felt a sense of connection to the land I had never experienced before.
As I returned to the city, I felt a sense of contentment and peace. My journey had been more than just a vacation; it had been a chance to explore a new part of the world, connect with nature and the people around me, and learn about the stories that make a place exceptional.
As I looked out at the passing landscape, I felt grateful for the chance to experience the Bamboo Forest in Medellin and the unexpected twists and turns that had led me there. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best adventures are those we don't plan for —those that surprise, challenge, and help us grow in ways we never imagined.
So if you ever find yourself in Medellin, Cebu (or any place), I encourage you to take a chance on the unexpected. Whether it's a spontaneous side trip to the Bamboo Forest or a new experience you never thought you'd try, you never know what magic you might discover.

Hi, i really liked the place and the style you gave to the photos, what is that technique called?
I also really liked the message of being like the Bamboo.
I did use adobe lightroom using a preset called "Flooded by Green". However, I just modify the preset a bit to achieve the desired look. Thank you for the appreciation.
I really like the way it looks. Thanks for sharing !LUV
