100 FAMOUS VIEWS OF EDO PERIOD IN THRIFT SHOP?! BEST FIND EVER !
I thank the admins who have thought of creating this community, because i have a lot of thrift shop experience which i want to blog about the treasures i have found while wandering around on surpluses, and was wondering which community would fit these kind of blog and this community is such a savior! so expect that i'll be posting in this community a lot.
I have been a regular customer to this thrift shop because they kept selling items that are of great quality with a cheap price, though you'd say "of course it is cheap, since it's a thrift shop" but i bet your thrift shop doesn't price 1 peso (0.018USD) sale every time they have a new container coming! 😆 but if you guys do have that kind of thrift shop in your area, please do share!😌 i love to see how satisfied y'all felt buying your thrift items ~
This day I made myself comfortable waiting for my ma to finish looking around, I'm just sitting because i don't buy items that are from new arrival containers because the prices are so high, yes i am what you call stingy, i always have a budget of 100 pesos (1.79USD) maximum, though it sometimes depends if i see something very useful, but I contemplate every item if i really need it or want it, anyways i guess that's my little introduction i'll proceed to the best find ever during their PESO SALE EVENT!
100 FAMOUS VIEWS OF EDO PERIOD!
Story of this was, the thrift shop was almost sold out and while i was just walking around looking for something that might be useful for me (art materials mostly), I found what look like an Ukiyo-e image, at first i was like "must be a poster" but to my surprise there was a lot of folder inside, which contains ukiyo-e prints! it got me excited and I grabbed it fast, as if someone would take it away from me, although no one would hahaha, the quest of my search of art materials have been changed and i focused on this instead, and my thoughts were "of course! this one is left out!" nobody in this area is interested of Japans history!
if you are wondering if each one is priced as 1 PHP (0.018USD)? nope they came in set, I approached the staff and asked if how much these are, which i was praying in mind that they wouldn't price it bigger, because this is a matter of wants and needs combined for an artist like me! I GET INSPIRATION OF THIS FOR GODS SAKE this is the reason why i am in japan surplus in the first place, just to find inspiration from my paintings and find authentic art materials too 😭 AND COLLECTING AN UKIYO-E PRINTS HAS BEEN IN MIND EVERSINCE MY ENCOUNTER WITH MISS HOKUSAI.
At first the staff was wondering and asked me about it, I just casually said that its just images and about japans history, she said she'll just check all the folders because sometimes japanese people would misplace money, I let her check one by one even if it takes her an hour, as long as i get a fair price of the item i can wait, but she gave up in 3 folders because there's a lot 😆 and she checked that the others are unopened, hahaha she asked again what it is, and why I'd buy lots of it, I just said I love history and this is edo period now japan
of course, I wouldn't say anything further about this, if id gave her an idea she'd definitely price it higher, so she just said, 20 pesos (0.36USD) for each set, HELL YEAH! 😍 I got 3 sets which makes it 60 pesos (1.07 USD) mehehe, imagine a set is originally priced at 20 dollars <-- click and see how each and a set is priced online) and yet I got 3 sets for only 1.07 dollars.
IS IT A GOOD FIND OR NOT? IT IS ! 😭
my happy heart is satisfied!
Each folder contains 3-4 papers that have information in japanese and a comparison with what the place looked like before and now in Japan
@demotry and @jijisaurart together with these buddies of mine watched Miss Hokusai and they know quite well how I love this kind of style ~ and how I admire Hokusai
Tried putting it on a frame if it looks good, hmm... I'm not satisfied with it, I think it is better with a transparent frame, but I don't have money to spend on frames so I might as well just put it in a transparent folder to protect my collections.
I am glad to have found these ukiyo-e prints because when I saw them in the thrift shop? it was placed in a cluttered box, which looked like garbage, 2 ukiyo-e prints got folded in its edge too, like imagine not finding it, and people who don't know anything about this would just simply rip it or throw it away, or worse? The staff would make it as a platform or a cover for every ceramic purchase, just thinking about it, is already a nightmare! why do I think of this? because calligraphy papers are used as a cover for the ceramics 😭 there was a time when I saw it and asked how much it was they just said "It's not for sale ma'am, we use it to cover the ceramics" 😞What a waste.. if only i can just offer a set of newspaper in exchange of that beautiful untouched and unfolded calligraphy papers, but of course, even newspapers nowadays are expensive hahaha
also do you believe in signs? I do! finding miss hokusai on a random day in the internet and i randomly watched it then later on finding this ukiyo-e prints? which isn't a common find, also i dont know if you'll believe this or not but there was a time where i flipped my art history book randomly and ukiyo-e was shown,
I was like 'what is the universe trying to tell me?' how do i interpret this kind of signs? my quirky mind would say "AM I THE REINCARNATION OF HOKUSAI?" HAHAHAH but really though i know why it keeps on showing to me and i know quite well what to make use of such signs... 😌 thank you universe for the message, know that it's been well received.
ANYWAYS! Being in a thrift shop and finding this kind of treasure is such a pleasure in the heart, you'll come out happy and satisfied!
How about you? Have you had any kind of experience like this in thrift shop?
