Villaviciosa, as a whole, is a true heritage ark, of the highest magnitude, which includes, in the astonishing variety of a territory embraced by the blessing of mountains and meadows and the charismatic baptism of a sea, the Cantabrian Sea, which, in addition, imprints character, the sensational outline of a notable historical-cultural complex, where the puddles of History, metaphorically speaking, have left the sublime mud of primordial architectures, which, from the most exciting of a pre-Romanesque that began to be defined with the settlement of the first Asturian royal dynasties, it left behind a colorful mosaic of period buildings, of diverse styles and circumstances, whose search and vision, of course, represent a true and exciting journey through time.

No sólo hemos de ver en la antigua Maliayo, la actual Villaviciosa, una hermosa comarca asturiana, similar, en esencia, a la que Tolkien imaginó como feudo natal de un pueblo eminentemente feliz, el de los Hobbits, conocida a nivel mundial por su honrosa filiación a la producción masiva de ese cantarín brebaje inmemorial, la sidra, que, como la pócima del desparpajo, cuyo consumo hacía invencibles a los populares Asterix y Obelix, consumían también a destajo aquellos belicosos guerreros astures, cuya osadía en el combate puso en jaque a las curtidas legiones romanas, generando verdaderas historias épicas, no exentas de glorioso contenido numantino, que tanto llamaron la atención de los primeros padres de la Arqueología, como el alemán, Adolph Schulten.

Villaviciosa, en su conjunto, es una verdadera arca patrimonial, de primerísima magnitud, que recoge, en la asombrosa variedad de un territorio abrazado a la bendición de montes y prados y al carismático bautismo de un mar, el Cantábrico, que, además, le imprime carácter, el esbozo sensacional de un notable conjunto, histórico-cultural, donde los charcos de la Historia, metafóricamente hablando, han dejado los sublimes barros de unas arquitecturas primordiales, que, desde lo más apasionante de un prerrománico que comenzó a definirse con el asentamiento de las primeras dinastías reales asturianas, fue dejando en herencia un colorido mosaico de edificios de época, de diversos estilos y circunstancias, cuya búsqueda y visión, suponen, desde luego, un verdadero y apasionante viaje en el tiempo.
