[ENG-SPN] The beauty of the deserts / La belleza de los desiertos

Now it is a natural space, whose rugged beauty leaves no one indifferent. But for centuries, it was known as the closest thing to a desert: an overwhelming space far from any residential area, to which only hermits retired. That is, those introverted romantics, who, imitating the worldly rootlessness of the first Christian hermits, like Saint Anthony or Saint Jerome, chose the most inhospitable solitudes to seek God in the most absolute of intimacies.

In fact, in the 7th century, when the Muslim invasion marked the end of the Visigoth empire, there were many who, overwhelmed by the debacle, chose this way of life and retired to this solitary place, overwhelmed by what, in they considered that time of blood and fire to be the closest thing to the end of the world. Over time, monastic communities also left traces of their presence and today, the ruins of their monasteries are another attraction, whose romantic picturesqueness attracts many curious people to the place.

Inspiring combination of both toughness/dryness of desert and greenery (side of nature's warmth).

Certain places speak for themselves. Now it is a natural reserve, although increasingly known and visited by tourism that does not always respect, unfortunately, the environment. And it continues to be, furthermore, an 'open book' of our remote history. Thank you for your comment and best regards.

Welcome and thank you.

Unfortunate to know about the disrespect.

Those monasteries that are appreciated, let's say that they are, the not inconsiderable age of a thousand years. And even in ruin, they still keep many secrets and many stories that are worth discovering. Greetings

Possibly yes, although it is also true that there are people, unfortunately, who do not respect the environment and those are always the worst, the ones who leave the worst trace of their time there.

A place that until relatively recently was barely visited by the surrounding locals and has now become a tourism benchmark.
