[ENG-SPN] On the Visigothic cultural heritage / Sobre la herencia cultural visigoda

Although their true origins remain an enigma, the Goths were a people, whose spirit always remained submerged in that eternal confrontation between light and darkness, which not only governed the beginning and end of their existence, but also, It was noticed after embracing Christianity, especially in the peculiar style of its architecture.

Connoisseurs of and, at the same time, followers of geometric schemes that used the golden ratio in their development, the remains that have come down to us from their basilicas, generally with a plan in the shape of a Greek cross or a cross with equal arms, introduce us, even seen under the help of artificial light, in those eternal differences of opposites, where the spirit, even involuntarily, adheres to the contention and sometimes feels shaken.

That shudder is enduring, to this day, when one of these arcane formations is visited, where, in addition, an evolutionary vision is also obtained, which helps to understand later styles, such as the pre-Romanesque and the Romanesque, that so much passion awaken today, forming part of a great artistic and cultural heritage, of which, in Spain, we feel especially proud.

Aunque sus verdaderos orígenes continúan siendo un enigma, los godos fueron un pueblo, cuyo espíritu permaneció siempre sumido en esa eterna confrontación entre la luz y las tinieblas, que no sólo rigió el principio y el fin de su existencia, sino, que, además, de dejó notar, después de abrazar el Cristianismo, sobre todo, en el peculiar estilo de su arquitectura.

Conocedores y a la vez, seguidores de esquemas geométricos que utilizaban en su desarrollo la proporción áurea, los restos que han llegado a nosotros de sus basílicas, generalmente, de planta en forma de cruz griega o cruz de brazos iguales, nos introducen, incluso vistas bajo el auxilio de la luz artificial, en esas eternas diferencias de opuestos, donde el espíritu, aun involuntariamente, se adhiere a la contienda y en ocasiones, se siente estremecer.

Ese estremecimiento es perdurable, a día de hoy, cuando se visita una de estas arcanas formaciones, donde, además, se obtiene, también, una visión evolutiva, que ayuda a comprender los estilos posteriores, como el prerrománico y el románico, que tanta pasión despiertan en la actualidad, formando parte de una grandiosa herencia, artística y cultural, de la que, en España, nos sentimos especialmente orgullosos.
