[ENG-SPN] A walk through the heart of Burgos: Saint Mary Square / Un paseo por el corazón de Burgos: la Plaza de Santa María

In the same way that, as has always been said, all roads lead to Rome, or to Santiago de Compostela or even further, to Jerusalem, it could also be said that, in that media heart of Old Castile, which is the city of Burgos, all its streets lead, inexorably, towards that insurmountable complex of idiosyncratic hermeneutics, dedicated, as it could not be otherwise, to the figure of Saint Mary, who was, who is and who will continue to be, fortunately, for many more years, its majestic cathedral.

In addition, a beautiful square is also dedicated to Saint Mary, attached to the cathedral, where her figure predominates, inert and compassionate, with the Child in her arms, ruling over a fountain, whose motifs, allusive to the ancient myths of that other Spain before Christianity - which remembers, among others, the exploits of a disturbed Hercules - seem to pay homage to him, submitted to his cult and seduced by his Grace, right next to the place where the old medieval house that housed the first is still preserved. printing press of the city, in whose rotaries the first edition of one of the great works of Universal Literature saw the light: The Matchmaker, by Fernando de Rojas.

De la misma manera, que, como se ha dicho siempre, todos los caminos llevan a Roma, o a Santiago de Compostela o incluso más lejos aún, a Jerusalén, también podría decirse, que, en ese mediático corazón de la Vieja Castilla, que es la ciudad de Burgos, todas sus calles llevan, inexorablemente, hacia ese insuperable complejo de hermenéutica idiosincrasia, dedicada, como no podía ser de otra manera, a la figura de Santa María, que fue, que es y que continuará siendo, afortunadamente, por muchos años más, su majestuosa catedral.

A Santa María, además, también le está dedicada una hermosa plaza, anexa a la catedral, donde predomina su figura, inerte y compasiva, con el Niño en brazos, imperando sobre una fuente, cuyos motivos, alusivos a los antiguos mitos de aquella otra España anterior al Cristianismo -la que recuerda, entre otras, las hazañas de un perturbado Hércules- parecen rendirle pleitesía, sometidos a su culto y seducidos por su Gracia, justo al lado del lugar donde todavía se conserva la vieja casa medieval que albergó la primera imprenta de la ciudad, en cuyos rotativos vio la luz la primera edición de una de las grandes obras de la Literatura Universal: La Celestina, de Fernando de Rojas.
