Grave robbers

Night fell over the old cemetery, shrouded in a thick fog that lent a sinister air to the place.
Two unscrupulous thieves were desecrating the graves in search of bodies to sell to the highest bidder.
Suddenly, out of the mist, an ethereal figure emerged that chilled the blood in his veins. A young brown-haired woman, wrapped in a dark dress, floated towards them.
Terrified, they dropped their shovels and stared into the pale, accusing face, its sad eyes reflecting the glow of the full moon.
A shiver ran down their spines as they felt the apparition's icy gaze upon them, like a silent judgement of their ungodly deeds. But as soon as it had arrived, the shadow moved on, drifting away among the tombstones until it melted into the mist.
Convinced that it was no more than a spectre without corporeal form, they resumed their sacrilegious work. Nothing, not even the forces of the afterlife, would deprive them of the juicy profits they made from their clandestine trade in corpses.
Hours later, they hurriedly left the cemetery with a burlap bundle on their backs, never imagining the horror that lay within.
The anatomist greeted them with scepticism as they examined the wares they so eagerly offered. Disappointed by the paltry pay, they returned to the inn, where the wife of one of them was waiting for them.
But that night, as they lay in bed, a piercing cry echoed in the darkness.
He jumped up, only to find himself face to face with the same apparition from the graveyard. This time, however, its eyes reflected an unearthly fury, and its face was disfigured by deep wounds.
Before he could react, the spectral presence rushed at him, seizing him with superhuman strength. And in that moment, he realised with horror that the young woman was no mere ghost.
She was the victim of one of the corpses they had desecrated, whose tormented soul had returned to claim revenge.
