Surviving By Whatever Means

I recently ordered some medications and had to pay the person who delivered them. I was furious when I opened it and discovered that it was incomplete, forcing me to call the hospital. They refused to issue a refund but promised to ship the remaining tablets. It costs some money. This money could easily cover a small takeout meal for myself and my family, but unfortunately, medications are necessary for me.

So having incomplete medications while being charged a lot of money brings back memories of what I could have done with the money. Most importantly, I would like to go out for some reflective time instead of ordering takeout. I have been watching my diet since my health complications and diagnoses, and I occasionally miss eating without worrying about the immediate consequences. It is not like I have enough money to eat out.

A Surprising Reason Why People Eat Out.

It is actually less healthy and more expensive, but until recently, I had no idea why people enjoyed eating out. Sometimes it is not because they are lazy or careless with their money; sometimes people just want to have fun and get away from the stresses of life. Life is hard. Except for a perfect life, you will experience some of this hardness, and some people will spend money just to forget how difficult their lives are, at least for a short time.

This explains why some people pay to have a good time.

Even if the money is expensive, the satisfaction and relief they receive can be worth it.

It is not the food; it is just some time to have fun away from their usual routine to relieve stress. We frequently underestimate the psychological effects of stress. People who are frequently subjected to chronic stress require moments of escape, and the importance of this is that it provides them with the necessary cushion and energy to keep going.

Over the last two months, the cost of living has tripled

....the cost of my medications has skyrocketed, and I simply could not afford the brands I was used to buying, leaving me stressed and sad. I realized that a little emotional trauma can break me down. Things that used to have no effect on me now break me down.

Simply knowing that I might be unable to afford my next hospital appointments sends me into a depressive state. There is a state of mind in which we realize that one problem has caused many other problems. It leads you down this rabbit hole, and you begin to wish the initial problem did not exist.

On Reddit, I have a group of people who are constantly discussing their medical bills, which can run into the thousands of dollars. I thought I was the only one who was depressed because of medical bills, until I heard these people speak. Depression appears to be one way in which the human mind deals with chronic debts and bills.

Affordability is losing its meaning.

People in Nigeria are becoming poorer, but nothing compares to becoming poor due to medical bills. Free medical care in the country is equivalent to receiving no care at all, because there are people who call themselves medical practitioners but do not want to work. There is no substitute for high-quality medical care, so it is either affordable or not.

However, I believe I just need the time off. Maybe I will go out and look for some cheap eats to distract myself from my current financial woes. It will not solve the problems; it will simply postpone the worry for another day. Aside from that, the crypto alts are taking a beating, and the last time I saw such a drop was when FTX crashed; it is bearish out there again. However, I am glad I have other things to worry about.

Sometimes it's annoying to order and receive what you didn't order for.
I remember the day my Dad ordered console pad with soldier camouflage color but we got the brown one.
I see the minimalist lifestyle in you, you are already thinking of what you would have used the extra cost for. That's how life is my brother, we incur losses someday. Money is like water in a pipe, when the pipe is tilted, the water flows to that direction.
I can't imagine when our leaders would ever treat their illnesses in their country, I see that probably impossible. Though nothing is impossible, but the medical care in our country is seriously getting worse everyday, only the rich don't feel it.
Great work my boss. Enjoy your and I pray the medication does a perfect work in you.

In this situation, hospitals shouldn't even be tampering with medication, but like one person who commented said, they could have easily known that it was not complete at all and still collected money and sent it that way.
Thanks for the kind words.

You are welcome boss.
That's your country for you. Everyone needs money by all means not minding how it affects another, and it's very bad.

I can't imagine what you must be going through in this present economy, having to deal with medication bills.

Things are quite expensive, especially medications. I don't know your diagnosis and I sincerely hope it's nothing life threatening. But having to pay for compulsory medications must be very daunting.

Adding this on top every other necessity can be too much for one person to handle. I wish you well and pray that you find a way to keep surviving.

Thank you for your prayers and amen. Well yes, survival is a game we must all play and it's harder for some and that's how life is, there's nothing anyone can do. The government in this country makes it harder.

That’s very annoying. What if I tell you that it is likely for the hospital to be aware about the fact that you don’t get complete medication but they chose not to tell you and that’s why they didn’t deny. Would you believe that?
Also, having fun requires a money and it may be a lot of money if you are the type who loves expensive fun. It helps to ease stress and make you forget your sorrows even though it is temporary

Well I didn't really think about this, but someone told me exactly the same that they might just know it wasn't complete and they still sent it anyway.

As for fun. I don't know what it looks like and I haven't had that in a long time.. I thank God for sustainability and this is just good for me..

It's good to forget about your worries for awhile, the coins are taking a beating but there will be a better day soon (hopefully!)

It sucks that the hospital is shorting you one your medications, you need them to survive and they aren't cheap. At least they are getting the rest to you, it shouldn't have to work that way and cause you the extra stress of having to deal with it. Healthcare is getting expensive worldwide, and it's a shame. You shouldn't have to choose between care and eating...

I saw a guy talking about his medical bills in a subreddit group and it just shows what people are going through just to survive. As for my medications, I don't even trust these guys, I hope they deliver to me the moment they promised.
How have you been doing so far?

It's a sad thing when hospitals don't get your meds right and charge a lot for them. I've been in a position with unexpected costs at the pharmacy and it wasn't a cool thing. It's tough but you'll get through big bro, you're tough man... Wishing you the best bro !BEER !HUG !WINE !WEED

This wasn't even a pharmacy and for the hospital to make that type of mistake is so appalling

Yes bro, that's even the point I'm trying to drive home, Hospital should do better it's so sad and they play with people's healthcare... People's lives are at stake here... I really hope things get better for you brother

Living costs are going up for everyone and I agree that medical costs only seem to go up. With technology improving, we would hope that things would get cheaper but I doubt those drug companies would ever do that.

Sorry to hear that your order wasn't filled properly. I tend to go to the pharmacy and pick up my orders so I have never had that issue.

I think pharmaceutical companies will remain the same and that's try to charge people exorbitantly for medications. I do agree that this might change with time, but at the moment, it's not happening.

Sometimes, the experience is more important than the money spent to have that experience. Just going out into a different environment can be a huge stress reliever, even if it's only temporarily. Given the current economic situation we live in, anyone will try to cut corners to give less and take more, I pray they ship the remaining tablets soon.

Unfortunately I don't know how the shipment will go. They've promised to send it within a week, but since they have my money now, I'm at their mercy, I presume

Definitely, they'll either forget about it or purposefully not send it at all. Even affordable healthcare isn't working anymore for most people.

I don't know about eating out as a way to get away from stress, maybe it is. But I know that sometimes stress can become a burden you'd try to avoid as much as possible, even if, most of the times, unsuccessfully.

A lot of people do it here. They just go out to take their mind off their problems. Eating is one way, it's a common thing here.

Ah yeah, many people go out here too particularly in the evenings. It can be a short term relieve of stress, but doesn't work for me as much, at least not nowadays. I need a longer period of detachment to lower the stress level...

Sorry about that Jose, it's frustrating that the hospital could do that. Since the hospital is the one that caused this inconvenience, are they now going to pay for this second delivery?

Indeed, eating out can really help to distress. Most obese people become obese because they use food to heal trauma or stress. So food does give happiness hormones.

And yes some people find eating out to be more rewarding in reducing stress. So plan for it Jose it might help to trigger your happiness hormone especially after all these stressful experiences.

It's a thing here. Private hospitals have this monopoly because public hospital themselves are awful. So it's a thing we experience in a system that's not good enough. However, it's what it is. I hope that one day I can have the means to leave this awful country.

That's frustrating!
Hopefully, they will send the remaining medication soon enough because it defeats the purpose if one can afford it but still not receive the service paid for. You shouldn't shy away from looking for opportunities to move elsewhere; God has ways of changing our life stories.
