Stifling Your Creativity on Hive
While there is some truth to the idea that people have a very short attention span, I believe we frequently overestimate or generalize this. In reality, people would rather see than hear. Hearing requires extra attention, but it is sometimes possible to listen with your eyes.
It is incredible to think that books and scrolls existed in the past, and that books are no longer as relevant as they once were.
The Egyptians were the first to use paper for documentation, so if you are wondering how people in the past had decent attention spans, keep in mind that books were not just any ordinary invention, and many people felt privileged to be among the first to have the opportunity to read.
Later times developed technologies to accommodate people's excesses, which became our new normal. So, people adapt not only to difficult situations, but also to easier times, and adaptability is a double-edged sword.
Have you ever sat down and imagined how people in the 16th and 17th centuries had fun, how they managed to live without electricity, TVs, and mobile phones while still living long, interesting, and fulfilling lives? If you have done so, it is most likely because you have imagined your life without all of the current benefits and believe you can not cope.
The majority of the things we find difficult to deal with are simply because we have so many options
When people do not have a choice, they begin to adapt.
Hive
On Hive, for example, many people label themselves as one type of consumer, claiming they do not want long-form content, which I understand. Many people are used to watching funny tiktok videos and weird shorts on YouTube.
There are people who spend hours scrolling through videos and laughing as they go; while the time spent watching these videos adds no value, you could argue that many people prioritize their entertainment over anything else.
YouTube and Tiktok are designed to maintain attention spans by utilizing algorithms to keep people locked in while cashing in.
In reality, everyone can train their attention span rather than leaving it static; a person with a shorter attention span cannot learn something like programming because there are different tools to learn; when people tire easily when it comes to consuming for something that could potentially benefit them, learning becomes difficult.
Fun & L(Earn)
In reality, learning is difficult, but people continue to do it. Why not blame learning difficulties on a short attention span? Whether you are learning for something potentially or immediately beneficial, the fact is that modernism or the modernization of learning will not necessarily help people learn better.
For example, if a book is converted into an eBook, the volume of content will remain the same; the only difference is that it is easier to stare at a screen than at white pages in a book. People literally carry tools that allow them to do almost anything.
However, we all have our preferences.
On Hive, there are people whose content I read regardless of how long it is; sometimes the boredom associated with consuming their content is justified by the potential knowledge I stand to gain.
So, while we consume for entertainment at times, consumption for learning, networking, engagement, and connection may not bring us joy or entertainment.
However, while it is true that we perform better when we are having fun, we must sometimes train our minds to have imaginary fun while doing things that are absolutely necessary.
In Conclusion
Before you say it is a ton of fun on web2, think again. There are people who are simply having fun, and those who are having fun while cashing out. The former returns home with nothing, whereas the latter literally lives their dream lives of having fun and earning money.
In reality, people build what they want to enjoy, and the construction process is frequently the most tedious and gruesome
People are literally farming Elon Musk's X money. They have hundreds of thousands of followers, and all they do is start an argument thread, generate millions of impressions per day, and go to the bank at the end of the month.
If you just want to have fun on Hive, you will not be able to do so because you must grind and build, both of which are difficult. You may not get the exposure you seek if you stick to what you enjoy alone, but if this is acceptable to you, you should not complain.
It is not always a good idea to ask a potential connection to create the type of content you want so you can easily network with them; you either like what they like or you don't. Do not stay in that place; instead, move and adapt.

People choose to use their attention span on what they want to now. Granted many people waste it on stupid cat videos, those who are a little brighter don't. The world has always been that way though. In antiquity only the intelligent people could read, and in the dark ages reading was limited only to monks. Owning a bible was illegal at one point!
As for X, people will monetize it and suck up as much money as possible. Then again people do the same here, milk Hive for money and cash on out. The wise person stays invested and tries to earn more and use their brains for more than entertainment.
Great post!
You're right. Thanks for this thoughtful input
People channel their attention span to whatever they want, but web2 makes it easier for them to choose those funny cat videos and all that, unfortunately this isn't rewarding or giving off any knowledge, but I guess people prioritize their entertainment.
As for X, I guess the big boys will keep cashing out at the expense of the smaller population.
On Hive, yeah, you're right, but then again, it's most people who stay to grow their stake and eventually use it to support others that's deemed valuable members of the chain

Maybe that's one of the reasons why masses don't flow toward Hive. Because they prefer the easy and entertaining (and usually without another added value, for them), to building one step at a time, on the long term.
Well we don't have a lot of catchy or shiny stuff, we aren't centralized enough, so we can't do diabolical marketing, and lastly people just have to build no matter what. So yes, you're completely right..
For me Hive is more like a place to grow and learn unlike Web2 where it's all about laughing and scrolling.
Sometimes reading a long form content can be tiring especially if I'm not really gaining anything from it. Most times, after writing a post, I see that it's too long, so I end up deleting some things just to make it look smaller.
In my opinion if it's actually long then you should keep it. your long-form content are good. I don't think you should not reduce the length of your post, provided it is valuable and good. I read some of your long form content.
Thank you 😊, I'm glad you do read my posts, I appreciate.
Most times I feel like people don't have the time so I'd just end up deleting most of it
Creating content on Hive is not always easy... but by speaking about things you are passionate about or even happenings from your day is something that could attract new followers and people digesting your posts. Be true is what I believe is important here.
Well if one can easily find the people that are passionate about the same thing they're passionate too and are able to support themselves then it mostly works out well, but sometimes I think people seek those who aren't passionate about what they're also passionate with..
I have a friend of mine, who can spend an entire day watching Fb videos, this can be very annoying to me, how can a young guy be this dormant and not productive yet he spends time burning data for nothing...
True as you say, peoples attention span differs based on their priorities, some just want to be entertained, and the owners of these platform understand the business and how to milk their user base and enrich themselves...

I agree with your outlook. If you don't like something, ignore it and move on. There is no reason to pick a fight for no reason. I don't like X because of that view farming. It seems braindead because they might not even believe what they are saying. It's all about views and money.
It's mostly about views and money like you've pointed out, it's about professionally farming and almost all of them over them do it.
This reminds me of the saying that life is a choice. People choose to push their attention to what they feel is beneficial to them. Most people in web 2 are after the entertainment they get without earning from it, maybe satisfactory to them. However building on hive comes with lots of knowledge and financial success, it's a choice. Even some authors with long form of contents, I do take my time to read provided there's value.
It depends on the kind of knowledge I love consuming. There's one author here who I have stopped reading from him because of how lengthy and boring his content can be...I would have continued if it's long and valuable. Overall, hive gives us the opportunity to learn, have fun and succeed. As for me, I just explore and find what I want and keep following that.
You're right, we all choose who and what we give our attention span to. Some people choose entertainment only and that's probably understandable. On Hive if you put that much time and energy overtime it's actually very profitable more than anything.
I understand how some long form content can be, but if I have to learn from. It, then I go ahead and that's how I've come to learn a few things about crypto.
I guess our increased short attention span has become some form of excuse to not really engage deeply into learning, especially acquiring knowledge. For me, it's incredibly fulfilling to dive into a certain subject and learn about all it's intricacies. Active learning tends to yield better results and with blockchain/crypto, users can also earn along the process.
