How Much $$$ Can You Spend To Establish Certainty?
Throughout yesterday, the network has been poor, the poorest I've had in over a year and it has continued to be worse till now. A very nasty rain has fallen as well which means that there might be no electricity for 2 to 3 days if not more. For someone who virtually spends 95% of my time online, I tailor my spending to find certain stability.
This means that I try as much as possible to maintain a constant power supply, then buy very reliable internet accessibility through a reliable network as well. In reality, spending to attain certainty means spending more, when people have the option to buy cheap, it's not like they'll not buy quality, but there's a tendency that their purchase gives them uncertainty.
They're not sure of longevity, neither are they sure of utility, but they take solace in the fact that they're not spending too much. I spend over $25 on electricity and another $22 monthly on the internet. That's a combined $47.
Worth & Its Purchasing Power
Now in other to create a vivid image of how expensive this is. I'll say it's the one-month salary of an averagely paid receptionist in a shopping mall. But then why spend when quality or certainty isn't even guaranteed? In Nigeria for example, everything is tailored to work against you.
Every day people spend in a bid to attain sustainability and durability, but even the quality they're hoping to purchase is sold to them at the rate of fake or imitation of the real deal. Marketing has eaten deep into the lives of people, making it difficult to even ascertain the qualities that make a commodity or service original.
Sometimes people spend heavily because they want to get guaranteed stability, however, money cannot guarantee 100% stability but even if it does well to guaranteed 85% then the remaining 15% will be as a result of unforeseen circumstances which even the companies providing these services cannot even control.
Paying The Price For Quality
After some time in college, in 2019, I was noticing that company that supplies my network, Etisalat has been sold and renamed 9mobile. I predicted that they wouldn't be able to maintain that quality of service to their customers. At that time, they had the most expensive but reliable internet cost, but people bought it because it was reliable even in the harshest of conditions.
However, the quality of service depreciated with time, I didn't know if it was bad management and I still don't know if it was an issue of downsizing or trying to make more money by cutting down on the quality of services. whatever it was, when the company was Etisalat, they amassed a huge customer base due to the quality of their network, people applauded them on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
The customer satisfaction was top-notch, but this eventually went down the drain, they've kept losing customer and the quality of their services has also depreciated overtime.
Wary Of Diminishing Returns?
However, I predicted this depreciation and quickly jumped ships, I didn't care if I'd spend, I just wanted quality services and that's all. Truth is, having means doesn't determine one's craving for quality, some people would rather spend everything they have to enjoy the extra or rare utility of perfection, this is me.
My insane craving to stay 100% connected, is why I spend quite well on my tools of accessibility and this is my phone and internet. However, this isn't completely possible because of the country I live in.
At the moment, my $47 expenses cannot guarantee me stability, while I'm not expecting it to do so, going 29-hours without stability is what I didn't bargain for. However, I understand that we cannot completely get stability no matter how much we spend. The rain that's fallen has caused a sort of spoilage.
In Conclusion
So, I'm experiencing poor servicing on two sides, this hardly happens, it's either one happens and the other happens another time, but of course, it's a negative coincidence we often encounter once in a while, when we're aiming to spend to derive utmost utility.
Should this discourage one from spending well enough to attain the stability and durability they crave? Of course not. At the moment, I'm experiencing low battery, while will inevitably keep away off, but technically I am already off because of my inability to gain accessibility.
In this current age where people rely on accessibility to the internet to do virtually everything, being cut off is like taking away one's extra ability to get things done. Should we begin to imagine what our lives would be with let's say 6 months outage? This feels insane... Hopefully, I'm left to imagine how spending 47$ hasn't served its desired utility.

Nigeria is a place that comes with alot of disadvantage by default. You can't escape these things. We have a very poor system running here.
However, being in other places comes with spending much more to attain some level of certainty. But even at that, you get better comfort and satisfaction at least.
And you see this,
Don't just go there, so many of us will not cope. Alot of people are still building and can't even afford some important things they need at the moment.
But anyway it is, just get yourself satisfied whichever way you can. Either it means spending more or less.

The truth is that I have seen places that have suffered outrageous outage for more than a year. This economic and sociocultural situations are not alien to Nigeria. everything terrible has happened here.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I have also suffered complete blackout for more than a year in the past.
We just find a way to cope around it. But it limits our productivity so much.
I don't know if other countries face this same type of challenges, because our country Nigeria is looking like a bedrock of all these negativity, I wonder why huge amount will be spent to other for something and you won't still be served as to how it is expected.
This light issue has began to make me run from home sincerely, I don't want to stay at home because I will miss alot of things online which I can't really condole that, I ran to my friends place where there situation is better... This is very bad, on top of the Huge some amount for the light bills and still this....
Well, I hope things gets better sooner because we cant continue to face liabilities we didn't invite for ourselves....🙌🙌💙💙
This is also a reminder that Nigeria is a place where the system is legitimately or illegitimately programs to scam you. I cannot seem to find a situation where value is relative especially with what we find in other countries. My other countries would experience this once in a while. I don't think we have ever come to a situation where we would agree that it is getting better in Nigeria. It's getting worse.

You're right Brother, It's really a sad thing Nigeria is becoming worst and worst..
Nigeria needs God's intervention seriously... Somebody like me, If I should have a slightest opportunity of leaving this country, the probability of staying back is almost zero oo...
I can relate to what you mean by making sure internet and electricity is of constant supply. If you want to see me miserable deprive me of one and am not in a good state.
While electricity is not much of issue here, I made sure my internet connection is affordable, I spend just about $31 on internet monthly and when I wasn't happy with the service few months ago which I shared with you u complained sending emails after emails and hopped in on their Facebook page to complain. So far its been good and I remain a happy man in that regard...

I remember when you used to complain of bad internet. Firstly I thought it was because of your limitations when it came to the permit to purchase a better internet service, I'm glad it's better now.
The truth is that in this place it is even worse, not enjoying electricity and having a good internet service only takes you of the equation to be online steadily.
5G isn't working in Nigeria yet. Internet speed is already a problem even when the weather conditions is okay. I can't seem to find any reason why I like Nigeria, it's a hellhole here.

And here I am installing 5G antenna system here in SA. Nothing seems to be encouraging about Nigeria sadly. Central Africa Republic recently legalized Bitcoin I read, a good move by such a small country while the big countries in Africa like Nigeria, SA, Kenya are sleep on it with silly regulations.

Mine is similar, but a little bit less than this.
Nowadays the monthly electricity bill is around 7000 Hungarian Forint (HUF), which is currently $19.49 USD, because $1 USD is currently 359.18 HUF.
The monthly subscription of my current mobile internet is 5085 Hungarian Forint (HUF), which is currently $14.16 USD.
This is around $33.65 USD per month.
$47 USD as a monthly salary? Wow. This is crazy.
Similar thing happened recently in my country (in Hungary) too. Telenor became Yettel. I am not sure whether the selling of the company is involved in this, but they have a new name.
Another similar thing happened in 2020, when Vodafone bought UPC.
Similar thing happened in the case of the UPC acquisition by Vodafone. The formerly good quality service became unreliable, and the customers became furious.
I am glad and happy that my approximate monthly spending of around $33.65 USD on electricity and on mobile internet gives me a mostly stable service, even if it is expensive.
I hope that the situation soon will become better in your country (in Nigeria).
Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.
Yeah, this is the situation, people are underpaid and sometimes this can be overwhelmingly saddening. In the country, there are so many ways to lose money and one of this is the basic exploitation that happens in the everyday lives of people it can be saddening. I'm actually glad that you can relate to these experiences especially since our countries differ, relating to this similarity is bliss.
Thanks for taking the time.

This situation in this country has been a huge problem for us in Nigeria, well we can only hope it gets better.
Abi o, I don't see Nigeria getting better soon sha. We are majorly our own problems
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Facts,we can just hope, it is not certain
It's too bad companies go bad over time but I don't really know if there are any alternatives. So I guess you might just have to find a different service and possibly pay more.
It's also weird to see $47 is enough to pay your utility bills because $47 is way less than what I pay. Then again, pays are higher here in the US.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Well it seems cheap, but you need to see the minimum wage, this is when you'd realize that it's not cheap. It's how it is over here

Too bad that in this country we experience such issue, the funny part is that we generate electricity to Ghana but they have 24hours power supply, we also get electricity through dam(water) but why then don't we see light after it rained
God will really help us
My advise:
Maybe you should get a solar inverter, I didn't say Gen because fuel is another wahala and then about internet that is bad, know what really works around your area and buy a router(universal) or any network own.. that's what i used in school because network is bad
Thanks for your advice, I'll keep weighing my options and as for the router, I'm thinking of changing my location before I actually do so. Wahala no dey finish as we would say in this country.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Lol, Normally Wahala no dey finish, na God go help us
Just try your best, God will help us
Welcome to Nigeria where what should be normal is seen as abnormal and vice versa. I can attest to the poor service provider network. 9 mobile is the worse service provider ever.
Small rain, they will use 2years to dry the electric wire. And I am just wondering, if this is peculiar to just Nigeria alone.
For me, I will say that to get durability and stability, you have to spend and even spend more if you are in Nigeria. Sometimes spending more may not even give you the desired result. But what will you do? You have to manage and hope for the best. In all, we move.
2years ke, omo! My country matter just tire pesin. The painful part is spending more money without see any results can be frustrating.

Are we even using quality products when building our grids, with the style of electricity we erect, the structure and conduits, we are already programming ourselves to experience spoilage.
Just like you mentioned even with money the guarantee of stability is not there. This is why our leaders are running overseas, because the system there is better
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
From the aspect of rain, do not expect power till the next market day as even the power lines are said to being sun-dried..😂 And there would still be an over the bar bill by the end of the month..
@josediccus That is why, in a bid to attain some higher level of stability, some people just let go of the national power grid and either fill their homes with solar stuffs or just burn fuel to power generators throughout.
I can't help but laugh at this 😂, but its just true.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Generators are expensive to use as the price of fuel is skyrocketing. So I think we're all stew meat in this country hahahah.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
That is true, fuel is expensive. Its just as though as a friend of mine said almost everything in this country works against its citizens.
To stay connected in my country is a thing of challenge and is not easy, we not enjoying anything in my country and like you said this is designed to scam you in every way. I don't believe anything will getting better soon unless we fight for it.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I also don't believe it'll get better in any way, I think we just have to keep waiting for things to change so we can leave here.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
The price is always higher when you want to ensure stability and certainty. People are ready to pay for that since what they are doing, that's more important.
No matter what you can do, you cannot control everything. From time to time, you will face things that you cannot do much to fix quickly. From our side, we try our level best to reduce the uncertainty so that everything goes smoothly.

I believe the cost of running business in Nigeria cost it. The price of service is going higher but service is getting poor.
I’ve been very offline these days. Bad network here too. It’s crazy
It sounds challenging to make sure you're connected to the world. I've heard Starlink is a good and reliable option for internet service but doesn't come cheap.
Starlink website - https://www.starlink.com/
Is there any way you could create a battery system or purchase a generator to help you get through those electricity outages?
There is, the problem is generators uses fuel, which is very expensive at the moment in Nigeria, solar systems are not fully reliable and can cost a lot of money for installation and maintainance. Plus, I still live with my aunt. I'm planning to move to my own space by December, hopefully. The building project is going to be done by July and my mother can move in.
But I have to stay in the city to rent.
I'll check out starlink. I'm thinking weather it'll work in Nigeria or not, but I have to check it's viability before the cost.
How is your family?
That is a tricky situation. I hope things improve over there. Our family is doing well, thanks. We just made tamales with my wife's side of the family this weekend. It's a tradition in the Mexican culture.
Yeah it's a tricky situation but there's no option but to keep coping and finding ways around it.
Wow, I didn't know your wife was Mexican, such an experience would be no doubt relaxing and exciting.
