Skill, Passion Vs Profession: A Hard Reality Check.

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

I have been reading some reflections of a particular person on hive and his views wouldn't have been originally shared by me, neither would his opinions have resonated with me if some recent events haven't unfolded in my life for the past two months now. I think we originally would shun people for their sentiments if we do not understand or see their experiences and lessons learned from our point of view.

This guy was consistently talking about being talented, being a creator online, and the dilemma of bending over to absurd rules and principles because of the incentives at stake. In this video, I talked about the freedom of choice, especially when we don't have to make choices because our needs and responsibilities depend on them. Many people are talented in the world, but most of the time, they lack the exposure and channel to get through to the proper opportunity to build a life with some of the things they're talented with.

Nigeria, for example, is a country that's filled with talents, but on the surface, the country seems redundant and that's because the people who possess the means and connections are mainly overshadowing those with the proper skills, abilities, and talent to create better innovations. In fact, all over the world some people mostly choose a career over passion, especially when responsibilities become so imminent that passion may not foot the bills.

Talent and skills are often huge determinants of what people do or become in life to attain self-fulfillment and achieve financial freedom, but mostly, reality becomes a barrier to financial freedom, along the line, people settle for less, especially because what they planned was different from what reality offered them. However, people become innovative, abandoning their passion and talents to take care of what matters more.

Sometimes, life comes with the ultimate sacrifice of living for others when we get to a certain stage in life. There are times we plan to build a future with some of the things we can effortlessly do in life, but It's Only a few people who get to earn money to do what they effortlessly enjoy doing. Most of the time, people settle for other things that can pay the bills, thereby abandoning their nature skills, talent, and profession because of the lack of exposure.

In conclusion

There are times alents and skills becomes worthless when the appropriate exposure is not there. Talents like football and art depend on exposure and acceptance before worth can be accredited. However, the talent that went undiscovered can be disappointing, this is why people choose to kill big dreams because they can hardly afford to pay for their reality. In this video, I talked about myself as a reference point and why I would choose a future where there wouldn't be much pressure for talent to pay.

Thank you for this, sometimes I feel passion alone is not enough in Nigeria probably as a result of the system. Hence, the need for combination of both. Passion that does not find the right channel also gets wasted.
Another factor is that, employers seek out experience when there is little or no exposure yet for the talent and skill to be manifested.

I believe with passion well channeled, our skills and talents may become more relevant than our careers

Funny enough no one likes talking about things like this. I have always had this mentality of hoping that my talents will lead to my financial freedom.

As a person with great love for photography I found out that with time it seems I'm not even taking pictures just because I love taking pictures but because I have to pay bills, and such mentality deprives you the love you actually had for it.

I think we just have to strike a balance and do things with the right intentions and for the right reasons.

This is absolutely true. It sucks when you need to choose between doing what you love for the sake of the passion or just because you need the Money that comes with it. Infact, striking a balance might be really difficult. In your case I can absolutely understand the dilemma.

Excellent post, doing what one loves and learning how to monetize it, is the key to financial freedom. Most times using that talent to help others solve their problems is where it's at. Most people whether rich or poor have a problem, once you can come up with solutions, money will follow you.
Thank you so much for sharing anf keep enjoying your weekend :}

The most established people are those who do not even expect or depend on their abilities. The money naturally comes while they do what they want without them having to force it. So many people in the world wishes they were opportuned as this.

The luckiest are those that can afford doing the things they love without affording any monetary expectations to it.

This is a very wise thing you said right here, man. People who are passionate about their jobs tend to excel at them, because unlike others, they’re not just looking at the salary at the end of the month, but they enjoy the process, the work involved, the thinking, crafting and every bit of what they’re doing. A salary is a plus to them. We have many people working jobs they hate because of the pressure of responsibility.

Expectations lead to frustration. Even a talented who has placed so much expectation on earning from their talent might be dispirited to feeling like they’re not really as talented. Not earning as much as you thought your talent is worth might have you questioning the worth of what you’re bringing to the table. Are you not that good? Do people not find your talent worth what you think it should be?

I don’t watch football much so I don’t think I’ll know the footballer you were talking about, but whoever it is did good for the well being of his family and theirs.

For example, systems and people being unlucky is one of the reasons why people cannot even trust their talent or skills to help them achieve financial fufillment. In life, there are people who do what they love without even wanting the money that comes with it as this is because they're already established. Talents like football isn't like this. People who are footballers are always looking to improve their abilities in order to make better returns on their skills. But at the end of the day, I think expectations can be the end of us, as not everyone is lucky enough to do things without the expectations of money.
