The reality of space travel.

The reality of space travel.

A mission to Mars is not the same as to the moon, it will be a few weeks at most, when the lunar base is created it will obviously be longer, but what is the mission of stepping on the moon again will be a few weeks at most. days the first mission is Artemis 3, but on Mars there will be months left. In fact, the first mission designs to Mars that were presented at the beginning of this century about 20 years ago, involved a trip of approximately 9 months from Earth to Mars, about 500 days on Mars to wait for the transfer window to Earth or launch window and another 9 months of travel to Earth.

It is an epic journey, current plans include ships with more powerful and faster engines, going faster is essential because the more you reduce the travel time, the less equipment, fuel, less food, fewer elements, that ship will have to carry, the more small and you will also expose these astronauts for less time to the problems of weightlessness and cosmic radiation, but even so for the moment a trip would currently mean being between 400 to 450 days, that is, more than a year.

NASA has not given a clear date for the trip of Humans to Mars, which is logical if we take into account the delays of the program to return to the moon and also if we take into account how NASA's budgets are skyrocketing, Some experts point to the late 1930s or early 2040s of those two decades, which would be between 2039 and possibly 2042.

This would place the United States in a very complicated situation because China has a very clear calendar for human exploration of Mars, it plans five missions in 2033, 2035, 2037, 2041 and 2043. This was announced a few years ago by Juan Xiaoyun, director of the academy. China launch vehicle technology, these missions include the construction of a base on Mars, this does not mean that the 2033 mission will be manned and we will see astronauts or taikonauts on the lunar surface, it will surely be a mission to test landing technology of the human ship, but without a crew and also to carry equipment, but this Chinese calendar makes very clear the ambitions of this nation and that the United States also makes it clear that the United States is going to have a very difficult time.

NASA has a huge problem with these contracts between friends, the “between friends” thing, as the director of NASA said, in the delays and failures, failures and delays that do not seem to have consequences and that everything is solved then. adding more public money, remember that this thing about returning to the moon is a very old story, now it is called the Artemis program, but before it had another name Galaxy has been around for 30 years, the Orion ship is undergoing development that is the ship that is going to taking humans from the earth to the moon has been in development for almost 20 years and the issue is still developing.

What about SpaceX? They will be probably faster on Mars than NASA. Do they work together on this mission or are they competitors?

SpaceX is at the forefront, it will continue as before, hired by NASA to do its job, but that is good about SpaceX, it is its business model until other economic actors emerge.

It's funny to see this today after just listening to an interview where it was mentioned how radiation damages our mitochondria and this has been seen in people who work in the space station. I wonder if this is another hurdle we face in space exploration as we move even further away from the earth's protective atmosphere. Can we survive a trip to Mars in a healthy enough state?

I don't believe it, radiation is very harmful, like nuclear radiation, prolonged exposure would kill us.

On Mars you have to terraform first to form a protective magnetic field.

And on the moon, underground habitats would have to be created.

It will certainly be an interesting journey to follow to see if it can be overcome.
